Chapter 268: Chapter 267: Competing in Confidence
"What? So the King of Heaven has joined forces with you after all. He won’t escape death either!" the Rao Family Master shouted. He still didn’t take Gongsun Chou and the King of Heaven seriously, as he was still living in the fantasy world of the Mo Sect’s supposed invincibility.
"It’s a pity you won’t live to see that day, because you’re about to die," Gongsun Chou replied.
With a single hand, Gongsun Chou snapped the Rao Family Master’s sword. The Master was stunned, never expecting such a thing to happen. Before he could even react, he realized the shattered blade had pierced his heart. He collapsed, clutching desperately at the wound.
As shrewd as an old fox like Gongsun Chou was, when he truly set out to kill, he was brutally efficient, felling an opponent with every single move.
The remaining martial artists from the two families were still fighting back. Of course, it was only a handful with any real spirit; most either chose to surrender or were trying to flee.
At this mont, Gongsun Chou commanded, "Kill them! Leave no one alive!"
"Yes, sir!"
A horde of his n surged forward to attack. At this point, they held an absolute advantage in both numbers and morale.
Gongsun Chou walked through the carnage, looking at the fallen mbers of the two families. His thods were cruel, sparing no one, but he knew that if the positions were reversed and it were the Gongsun Family who had fallen, these two families wouldn’t have shown any rcy either. Because of this, he felt not a shred of guilt, only a savage thrill. From this day forward, the Gongsun Family’s enemies in Jinn had been completely wiped out.
Of course, there was still the Mo Sect in the Yun Gui region. They were the Gongsun Family’s true enemy. Without Ye Fan and Su Qingxue, he would have had no confidence in confronting them. But with those two on his side, Gongsun Chou’s confidence soared.
He then announced that it was he *and* the King of Heaven who had annihilated the two families. Since the responsibility had to be shared, Gongsun Chou felt it was unfair for the Gongsun Family to bear it alone. Dragging Ye Fan down to share the bla was the only sensible path.
「A few days later」
Ye Fan arrived in Jiangning after a long absence. As he entered his villa, it felt desolate; only two maids were there. Without Su Qingxue, life felt bland.
He decided to call Mu Wanxin.
The call was taking a while to connect, and Ye Fan was about to hang up in frustration when the beautiful flight attendant, Mu Wanxin, finally answered. "Honey, where are you?"
Ye Fan smiled. "I missed you! I just got back to Jiangning. Where are you?"
"Honey, I’m in Jiangning too! I’m out buying so jewelry. Just wait for . As soon as I’m done, I’ll co ho and cook for you!" Mu Wanxin said over the phone.
Ye Fan imdiately replied, "No need, darling. Just tell
where you are, and I’ll co find you right now!"
"Okay!"
Mu Wanxin told Ye Fan her location. To his surprise, the jewelry store was one his family owned—or rather, it was part of his mother’s private portfolio.
About ten minutes later, Ye Fan found Mu Wanxin in a bustling shopping center. The place was lively, with an endless stream of shoppers.
"Honey, when did you get back?" she asked.
"I just arrived. That’s why I called you the second I could," Ye Fan said. "See anything you like? I’ll buy it for you. We’ve known each other for so long, and I’m ashad to say I’ve never bought you a single gift!"
It was true. When it ca to his won, Ye Fan was an unqualified boyfriend or husband, but they had never once held it against him. For that, he felt deeply guilty.
"It’s okay, honey. I have my own money," Mu Wanxin, always considerate, imdiately protested. "You shouldn’t let little things like this get in the way of your important business!"
But Ye Fan just gave her a playful swat on the bottom. In full view of the crowd, her face instantly flushed crimson. She pinched him hard, not knowing how she could face anyone now.
"Your business *is* my important business!" Ye Fan leaned in. "My own affairs are secondary. Now, watch out, or you’ll have to face our ’family rules’!"
At the ntion of "family rules," Mu Wanxin blushed even deeper. She knew all too well what he ant by that, and she imdiately beca docile and obedient. She didn’t dare argue with him. She would be the one left embarrassed, not him. Ye Fan was completely shaless, so what could she do?
However, a beautiful woman attracts trouble wherever she goes. Mu Wanxin’s impressive height and stunning features had certainly drawn the attention of those around them. Just then, her eyes fell on a particular necklace. But when she saw the price tag, she quickly looked away. It was a pearl necklace worth millions of yuan; she would never dare buy sothing like that on a whim.
But Ye Fan had seen the look in her eyes. "This necklace isn’t bad," he said casually. "It’s just a bit cheap at only three million. Oh well, we’ll take it. It’s not quite worthy of my wife, but it’ll have to do."
"Honey, it’s too expensive! I don’t want it!" she whispered urgently. "I... I really don’t like it that much!"
Mu Wanxin couldn’t bring herself to spend so much of Ye Fan’s money. Deep down, she adored the necklace, but she didn’t want to be a gold digger.
Ye Fan declared loudly, "I’m buying it whether you like it or not. Besides, I’m so poor, all I have left is money."
The surrounding crowd looked on with disdain. They thought he was an incredible show-off, acting like three million was nothing. Although handso, he didn’t look rich. They were sure he was just posturing and wouldn’t actually be able to buy the necklace. They decided to wait and see.
Mu Wanxin was still trying to refuse when another voice cut in.
"If you can’t afford it, don’t put on a front. Beautiful, I’ll buy this necklace for you. A gift for soone as lovely as yourself. But you should stop hanging around this broke loser. Stick with him, and you’ll never have anything nice!"
A man in a high-end suit stepped forward. He looked to be around forty, with a mature and steady deanor that scread success. The man was known for being a big spender, and he figured three million was an absolute bargain for a woman like Mu Wanxin. Her beauty had completely captivated him.
Ye Fan retorted, "So you think you’re sothing special just because you have money? Well, as it happens, I’m pretty rich myself!"
"Oh, really? Then buy it," the man sneered. "It’s clear you can’t afford this necklace. Young man, while talking a big ga can sotis be a sign of character, it’s better to stay grounded in reality, don’t you think?"
He had struggled for twenty years. Relying on his sharp intellect and tireless efforts, he had finally amassed a net worth of over a hundred million, making him a small tycoon in his own right. Looking at Ye Fan, he figured the kid would be lucky to make a few tens of thousands a month at his age. He was obviously all talk.
"Honey, let’s just go," Mu Wanxin said to Ye Fan. "Being around people like this makes
feel sick."
"No way!" Ye Fan replied. "If we leave now, he’ll just laugh at us. You don’t have to say a word. Just sit back and watch ."
Ye Fan stepped up to the counter. "You can’t judge a book by its cover. How do you know I can’t afford it?"
"Look at how you’re dressed. Save your breath," the man said dismissively, folding his arms. His two lackeys also puffed out their chests, looking smug.
Ye Fan smirked. "What if I can afford it?"
"If you can afford it, I’ll buy every single piece of jewelry in this store!"
The man’s arrogance was off the charts. Convinced that Ye Fan couldn’t possibly afford it, he grew bolder.
"Fine. You said it," Ye Fan announced, turning to the onlookers. "Did everyone hear him?"
A crowd gathered around, eager to watch the two show-offs try to one-up each other.
"Besides," Ye Fan continued, looking back at the man, "do *you* have enough money? All the jewelry in this store adds up to tens of millions."
"What a joke!" the man scoffed. "My net worth is over a hundred million. What are a few tens of millions to ?!"
Internally, however, he lacked confidence. While it was true his net worth was over a hundred million, he couldn’t actually produce tens of millions in cash. His total assets were barely over the hundred-million mark, and he only had a few million in liquid funds at most. He simply didn’t have that kind of money. But he was certain Ye Fan was bluffing, so he wasn’t afraid. He just waited, ready to watch Ye Fan make a fool of himself.
