473: A World in Turmoil

Jiang Mo and Yun Qingyue's cultivation levels were far higher than those of the Wanfa Sect mbers and the demonic pattern-infected individuals. So much so that when the two appeared in the sky above them, these people remained completely unaware. They had already begun fighting among themselves, and the previously clearly defined "target" instantly descended into chaos, making the situation sowhat more confused and disrupting Jiang Mo's neatly divided sections.

She clicked her tongue, finding it troubleso, but these people who had begun fighting still possessed so ability to protect themselves. Therefore, she didn't plan to imdiately intervene, but rather intended to first rescue the frightened child.

With a casual wave of her sleeve, a powerful surge of spiritual energy accompanied by a terrifying presence pressed downward. Not just the Senior Brother carrying the child in the center, but even the surrounding Wanfa disciples and demonic pattern-infected individuals engaged in combat all felt the fearso pressure descending from above. Those with higher cultivation fared better, barely maintaining their composure under the aftermath, while those with lesser cultivation fell directly from mid-air.

Jiang Mo paid no attention to these affected bystanders, her gaze fixed on the person at the center. This person's cultivation was not low among the Wanfa disciples, otherwise he wouldn't have been entrusted with carrying a young disciple, but no matter how powerful he was, he naturally couldn't match Jianbing.

Facing the incoming trendous force, that person was struck head-on, sent flying like a kite with its string cut.

Jiang Mo's purpose was to save people rather than kill them, so she didn't pursue him but reached out toward the young disciple on his back—it was unclear what obsession that person held, for despite being infected by demonic patterns and falling to demonic influence, his grip on the young disciple remained tight. Previously, he hadn't taken the opportunity to abandon or kill the child during the chaos, and even now he hadn't let go.

But this didn't necessarily an anything. Jiang Mo's determination to save the child remained unchanged. She extended her hand, and a giant golden hand materialized out of thin air, reaching toward that person. The latter could only watch helplessly, spitting out a mouthful of black blood, unable to dodge in ti.

Both the carrier and the carried were caught in Jiang Mo's grasp, with the child weakly crying out: "H-help ..."

Jiang Mo raised an eyebrow, just about to separate the two, when suddenly she saw an ice-blue fla erupt from the demonic pattern-infected Senior Brother, swiftly consuming him. The last thing she glimpsed was his face, dazed yet relieved, while at the mont the ice fla ignited, the child had already been caught by another spiritual energy hand.

Yun Qingyue's control over her ice flas was extrely precise; except for when burning demonic patterns and demonic energy, when she lost all control, at other tis she wielded them almost like extensions of her own limbs. The ice flas didn't burn even a hair on the child, but when Yun Qingyue rescued him, he was still trembling uncontrollably from fear.

With a "waaaah," the child finally broke into tears, though it was unclear whether he wept for himself or for his Senior Brother. Perhaps because Yun Qingyue had saved him, as he cried, he instinctively tried to throw himself into her embrace.

Jiang Mo instantly appeared before him, grabbed the child by the collar, and without a word, tossed him away.

The Wanfa Sect Leader was engaged in combat with an opponent at the Void Crossing stage, originally one major realm below him, but due to the demonic patterns covering his face, he was exerting power beyond his level. In contrast, the Wanfa Sect Leader felt increasingly frustrated, not only being targeted by soone who had transcended their level but also because his opponent seed impervious to pain and fearless of death, showing no reaction no matter how he was struck.

Just as the Wanfa Sect Leader was preparing to unleash a powerful attack to finish his opponent, he suddenly saw a golden spiritual light streaking toward them. He instinctively dodged to the side, but his reckless opponent paid no heed, resulting in being directly cleaved in two by the spiritual light.

The Wanfa Sect Leader imdiately drew in a cold breath, feeling a chill run down his spine.

However, in the next mont, he sensed sothing else coming from behind. With the previous lesson fresh in his mind, he didn't dare to intercept and dodged once more. At the sa ti, he glanced back briefly, vaguely feeling sothing was amiss—what was approaching wasn't spiritual energy, nor did it appear to be any magical artifact or technique; the approaching object looked more like a person based on its size?

Just as he had this thought, he heard a sowhat familiar voice crying out: "Sect Leader, Sect Leader, save !"

The Wanfa Sect Leader imdiately tensed, recognizing the voice of a young disciple from his sect. Looking toward the sound, he saw it was indeed the "human projectile" he had just avoided. Without ti to think further, he hurriedly pursued and caught the person, finding upon closer inspection that it was indeed the young disciple, crying with snot and tears streaming down his face.

The young disciple clung to the Sect Leader and with a "waaah," cried even more heartbrokenly.

With Jiang Mo and Yun Qingyue's assistance, the chaotic battle didn't last long; more precisely, it ended very quickly.

Just as Jiang Mo had allocated earlier, she and Yun Qingyue each took half the opponents. The little tiger's attacks were fierce, while Yun Qingyue's ice flas were completely unstoppable. Among those attacking the Wanfa Sect's one to two hundred people, not one could last even a single exchange against either of them.

Before long, those attackers were completely annihilated without a trace, while the Wanfa Sect disciples, though so were injured, had mostly preserved their lives.

After checking on his disciples' conditions, the Wanfa Sect Leader was naturally filled with gratitude. Carrying the young disciple who refused to let go of him, he ca forward to express his thanks: "May I know the esteed nas of you two seniors? I am the Sect Leader of Wanfa Sect. Today we owe our lives entirely to both seniors' rescue. In the future, should the seniors have any instructions, the entire Wanfa Sect will spare no effort, even unto death."

He spoke very sincerely, but Jiang Mo and Yun Qingyue had never even heard of Wanfa Sect, so naturally didn't expect anything in return. Yun Qingyue stepped forward, revealing their identity: "Sect Leader is too kind. We are disciples of Xuanqing Sect, and what we did was rely by chance, not worth ntioning."

Upon hearing this, the Wanfa Sect Leader's eyes brightened: "You are from Xuanqing Sect?"

Given the current situation, with even Sect Leader Zhu residing in Xuanqing Sect, Yun Qingyue naturally had nothing to hide: "Indeed."

The Wanfa Sect Leader then exclaid joyfully: "That's wonderful! We were actually on our way to seek refuge at Xuanqing Sect."

Hearing these words, Jiang Mo's expression beca subtle, clearly thinking of the overcrowded state of their sect. Yun Qingyue couldn't say much in response. Faced with such enthusiasm, she naturally couldn't turn them away, but Xuanqing Sect only had so much territory and resources, and couldn't continually take in more people.

To be realistic, Jiang Mo's earlier comnt about overcrowded air was a joke, but insufficient spiritual energy for too many people was a genuine concern—cultivators needed to absorb spiritual energy even just to maintain their existence, not only for advancent, and more people ant greater consumption.

One reason Jiang Mo had recently avoided staying in the sect was because the spiritual energy there had beco diluted.

The Wanfa Sect Leader, being a sect leader after all, could sense the subtle shift in atmosphere. He looked at the two with so unease, carefully asking: "Is Xuanqing Sect no longer accepting people?"

With these words, all the surrounding Wanfa Sect disciples turned to look, their eyes filled with tension. It seed that just one word of rejection from Jiang Mo and Yun Qingyue would shatter their future and hope.

Jiang Mo felt strangely nervous under their gaze, while Yun Qingyue remained composed: "No, but there's hardly any room left in the sect."

Hearing this, the Wanfa Sect Leader breathed a slight sigh of relief and imdiately said: "That's fine, we just need a place to land." After a pause, he added: "If there really is no place for us to settle, we can stay suspended in mid-air."

Cultivators had many thods; if there was no space on the ground, they could live in the air. Who didn't have so magical item that could hover?

Jiang Mo and Yun Qingyue were speechless at this, rubbing their foreheads before deciding to bring these people back.

The group didn't delay, hastily bandaging their wounds before changing course toward Xuanqing Sect. On the way, Jiang Mo and Yun Qingyue learned from the Wanfa Sect Leader that Wanfa Sect was located in the south, quite far from Xuanqing Sect. Their entire sect's journey to seek refuge at Xuanqing Sect wasn't a recent decision, but after experiencing and hearing too much along the way, they had only recently begun traveling with all their might.

The Wanfa Sect Leader sighed deeply: "Actually, there were quite a few small sects in our area. When we first heard about the troubles, we figured we couldn't withstand them ourselves, so we all decided to seek refuge elsewhere. At that ti, five sects agreed to travel together, but so scattered, so died, so joined the demon race, and in the end, only our Wanfa Sect remained with these few people."

Regarding the demon race, Xuanqing Sect had already announced the matter to the world. Although this caused even more unrest, even making people's hearts uneasy, it was still better than keeping everyone in the dark.

Yun Qingyue felt a deep sense of emotion and asked for more details, especially about what the Wanfa Sect Leader had witnessed on his journey.

The Wanfa Sect Leader's answer was sumd up in one word: chaos—not only were the sects in chaos, but independent cultivators were in chaos, the cultivation world was in chaos, and even the mortal realm adjacent to it was in complete disorder. According to the Wanfa Sect Leader, of the mortal kingdoms they had passed through, at least half had fallen into chaos, while the other half had simply disappeared. It was unclear whether the mortals had fled upon hearing of the calamity, or if demonic cultivators had slipped into the mortal realm and targeted those ordinary people?

In short, describing the current state of the world as one where "living beings are reduced to misery" was certainly not an exaggeration. And what was more frightening was that this was just the beginning; no one knew when this great calamity would end, or what form it would take in the future.

Jiang Mo also listened with a heavy heart, and after a long ti, she asked the system for the first ti: "System, what's the next main quest?"

The system, rarely summoned, was sowhat excited but regretfully replied: "Quest... not... act...ivated."
