Chapter 143: Chapter 117: Plotting to Kill the Exotic Beast Spider King
Outside, the two-legged beast had vanished. The Exotic Beast Spider King saw that its lunge had missed again, and the anger that had just begun to subside erupted once more!
It had been tricked again!
Roaring in anger, it began to relentlessly destroy its surroundings, thinking its target was hiding sowhere nearby.
A mont later, finding nothing, it grew quiet again, continuously sensing every movent and scent in its surroundings.
Finally, it let out a cry, and its surviving offspring imdiately sward toward it.
The Spider King’s rampage had negated most of the effects of the Seven Herbs Powder, so the smaller spiders were no longer afraid.
At the Spider King’s command, the countless smaller spiders scattered in all directions, beginning their search for the two-legged beast that had provoked it ti and ti again.
Inside the Marketplace Hut, Cheng Zongyang was also a little troubled.
The arrow he had previously shot from a fully drawn bow hadn’t even pierced its skin. This just went to show how terrifying the Exotic Beast Spider King’s defenses were.
But he was also secretly delighted. This ant a high reward.
Selling this kind of Exotic Beast to the Marketplace Hut would surely fetch an extrely high price. Plus, there was no telling how many usable materials its body contained!
’Do I have to fight it in close combat? If I get close, I’m confident I can use the sharpness of my Tang Blade to pierce its body. As long as I’m not killed instantly, I can retreat to the Marketplace Hut in a flash to hide and heal.’
’If I use the Wilderness World, I could launch sneak attacks and wear it down...’
"Sir!!"
Just then, Ma San’s excited voice pulled him from his thoughts.
Cheng Zongyang looked outside and saw Ma San running toward the Marketplace Hut, holding sothing in his hand.
"What’s all the excitent about? Did you discover sothing?" Cheng Zongyang asked curiously.
Ma San held out the hunk of iron in his hand and said with a smile:
"Sir, this is the Geomagnetic Stone you gave ."
Cheng Zongyang was stunned. Looking at the hunk of iron in Ma San’s hand, he asked, "You figured it out?"
He took it and looked it over. The Geomagnetic Stone couldn’t affect him inside the hut, hence his earlier question.
Ma San continued, "It was an accident. I was using an iron basin to hold sothing and happened to place it over the Geomagnetic Stone. Then I noticed that the snakes I was using for my experints gradually recovered."
"I figured the iron basin must be blocking its effect, so I took the liberty of crushing the basin into a ball and wrapping the Geomagnetic Stone in it. When I tested it again, I found the snakes were barely affected."
Now, Cheng Zongyang understood.
’So he used the properties of tal to create a shield for the magnetic field?’
’I suppose I was too close to the problem to see the solution. I can’t believe I didn’t think of this. But I know that not just any tal can effectively shield a magnetic field.’
After a mont’s thought, he took the hunk of iron and walked outside.
He imdiately felt the faint influence of a different energy. It just wasn’t as intense as before.
He could still feel a trace of it, but fortunately, the effect wasn’t significant.
"Good work," Cheng Zongyang said, looking at Ma San. "What do you want as a reward?"
’Accomplishnts must be rewarded. Even though I don’t have much to offer, the gesture is what matters.’
Ma San bead and cupped his fists. "Thank you, Sir! I do have one wish."
Cheng Zongyang smiled. "Let’s hear it."
Ma San quickly replied, "I’d like to know how my wife and son are doing. To be honest, Sir, my family is still in Jade Peak County Town. My son fell ill right before the uprising there, and I have no idea what’s beco of them."
Hearing Ma San’s words, Cheng Zongyang fell silent.
’Given what happened back then, I’m afraid...’
He said, "Tell
the address. I’ll go check on them for you."
"Thank you, Sir!!" Ma San thanked him excitedly, cupping his fists.
"Don’t worry about it. Go on and get back to your work. I have a use for this stone right now, but I’ll give it back later for you to continue your research. Try to find a way to nullify its effect on people even without an iron covering."
"Yes, Sir!" Ma San cupped his fists and imdiately gave Cheng Zongyang his forr address.
Cheng Zongyang committed it to mory, and Ma San went back to his work.
"Ti to see if this thing has any effect on Exotic Beasts," Cheng Zongyang said, looking at the object in his hand.
’I don’t need it to perform miracles. As long as it can affect the Spider King for just a mont, I can seize the opportunity to wound it!’
He imdiately left the Wilderness World again.
"SPLAT!"
The mont he appeared, he felt like he had stepped on sothing, a sensation of sothing bursting under the sole of his foot.
Cheng Zongyang looked down and saw he had crushed a fist-sized spider. At the sa ti, the surrounding smaller spiders scattered, driven away by the scent of the Seven Herbs Powder.
He quickly scanned his surroundings, which were a complete wreck. Just then, he saw the Spider King disappearing into a cave.
Cheng Zongyang’s eyes lit up. Ignoring everything else, he instantly charged forward.
Cheng Zongyang’s appearance once again provoked a reaction from the other spiders, which imdiately sent out an "alarm" that he couldn’t hear.
’The two-legged beast is back!!’
Unaware of the situation, Cheng Zongyang was only halfway there when he saw the Spider King charge out again.
The mont it saw the two-legged beast reappear, the Spider King lifted its eight legs and curled its abdon inward. A finger-thick strand of silk shot toward Cheng Zongyang. Then, its chelicerae parted, and a stream of liquid sprayed out after it.
Cheng Zongyang’s expression changed. He dropped ungracefully to the ground and executed a 720-degree roll to the right, dodging the incredibly fast spray of silk and venom. At the sa ti, his hands never stopped moving; he pried open the iron sheet, and the Geomagnetic Stone imdiately fell out, rolling a few tis across the ground!
An intense wave of dizziness and nausea washed over him. Out of the corner of his eye, Cheng Zongyang saw the Spider King’s eight legs blurring as they moved at an incredible speed. It was already in front of him, its speed far beyond his imagination.
