"I took care of so work in the morning and ca after I was done. Miss Nan Tian, please understand that your birthday party starts at six in the evening, not six in the morning. Why would I co so early? To just stare at each other?" An Yiqing elegantly rolled her eyes, feeling quite exasperated with Nan Tian’s rash personality.
Nan Tian was left speechless by An Yiqing’s retort. She had only thought of having An Yiqing co early to support her, forgetting when the party started.
"Alright, alright, you’ve got a point! Seriously, it’s my birthday today, can’t you just humor
a bit?" Nan Tian grumbled discontentedly.
An Yiqing twitched the corners of her mouth, giving Nan Tian an annoyed look, "Since you know it’s your birthday, stop ntioning ’death’ left and right. Even if we don’t believe in these things, we should at least aim for good fortune." While she spoke, An Yiqing circled around the stool where Nan Tian was sitting, nodding in admiration, "The old saying is true, as they say, fine clothes make the man. You’ve been turned from a simple rock to a lady of elegance! Kudos to the stylist!"
"Hey! Watch your words! How am I a simple rock? I am a diamond in the rough, okay?!" Nan Tian raised her eyebrows, slapping the table with her small hand, trying to spread her legs, but found herself almost toppling over due to the tight skirt restricting her movent.
"Damn! Who designed this lousy skirt?! Why must I wear sothing like this to the party? It wraps
up like a mummy, where’s the appeal?!" Nan Tian swiftly caught herself on the dressing table, straightening up with a forceful push from her waist.
An Yiqing listened to Nan Tian’s aimless ramblings with a twitching smile, sighing as she rubbed her throbbing temples. She felt that spending too long with this girl might make her own thought process go awry.
"Just stop fussing and eat sothing to fill your stomach. The party’s about to start and you’ll need your energy!" An Yiqing passed the snacks from the small table to Nan Tian, reminding her to fill up a bit.
Nan Tian didn’t refuse, grabbing two pieces of pastry from the plate, munching on them heartily.
While eating, she grumbled through her frowns, "I don’t know what that old man is planning. Why throw a birthday party for just a birthday? I never had one in the first nineteen years and wasn’t I just as lively? I really don’t know what he’s thinking!"
"Turning twenty is different; it’s a birthday that requires blessings."
"Hah! Blessings? With that bunch of aunts and uncles in my family? I’d be lucky if they didn’t slip poison into my birthday cake! Woman, you have no idea how much those demons and monsters hate ! Just take Nan Tong’s mother, my third aunt, for starters. The amount of little traps she’s set for
behind my back over the years is astounding! If it weren’t for my thick skin, I’d have been beaten to death by the old man’s cane long ago!" Thinking back to how she was undermined by the Nan Family, Nan Tian couldn’t help but be infuriated, wishing she could just slap all those people to death.
"Calm down, it’s not a big deal. If you can’t handle even this little, then you might as well sever ties with the Nan Family sooner. Also with Old Master Nan, if he hadn’t been so ruthless before, do you think those heartless dogs would have let you live so healthily till now?"
Nan Tian stayed silent, not refuting An Yiqing’s words. She knew deep down that if it hadn’t been for Old Master Nan constantly chasing her around and showing such disappointnt in her, the crazy mbers of the Nan Family would have ended her long ago. Since she was an infant when her parents died, the old man raised her with care himself. Just for that honor alone, those people would have never tolerated her. Had Old Master Nan not changed his tactics, worsening their relationship, she reckoned she wouldn’t have survived to this day.
In the past, she didn’t understand and resented Old Master Nan’s ruthless nature. But now, Nan Tian was genuinely grateful for the silent sacrifices this old man made for her.
Watching Nan Tian’s eyes gradually turning red, An Yiqing smiled contentedly. So things can’t be seen with the eyes alone; they must be felt with the heart. Like Old Master Nan’s sincere intentions for her, and the heart-pounding anxiety and lurking dangers of the Nan Family’s scheming.
"Tonight you’ll face many challenges, Nan Tian. I can only assist you from the sidelines. The most important thing is whether you can win beautifully. Don’t disgrace your grandfather, don’t let him down!"
