Chapter 87: Chapter 84: ’I Am a Man of So ans

Matthew’s sudden shout made Ande jump, his eyes widening as he stared at the Priest.

Fang Zhen’s hand instinctively went to the sheath of his Nepalese Curved Saber.

’He was genuinely afraid the Priest would suddenly erupt and unleash a Holy Light Technique or sothing.’

’But then he realized, if Father Matthew really had that kind of power, he wouldn’t have ended up getting kidnapped by Rex.’

Matthew seed to co to his senses at that mont. Seeing Fang Zhen and Ande staring at him, he realized he had acted inappropriately.

"Er, my apologies. The education I received from the church makes it impossible for

to tolerate even a shred of evil. This letter, written in a heretical script, coupled with the matter of colluding with unnatural creatures—those filthy, evil Kobolds—infuriated . I lost my composure. Please forgive

for being so overco."

Matthew’s voice dropped. He gave an apologetic bow to Fang Zhen and Ande.

Fang Zhen raised an eyebrow.

Beside him, Ande blurted out, "Heretical script? Father Matthew, please forgive my ignorance, but what is a heretical script?"

"I can understand your anger over Baron von Kleist colluding with evil creatures like Kobolds, but why would re writing enrage you so?"

’A good question,’ Fang Zhen thought.

’I wanted to ask the sa thing, but I was afraid of arousing suspicion by exposing my ignorance of this world.’

’Ande’s inquisitive nature was a welco convenience at a ti like this.’

"Oh, allow

to explain, Mayor Ande. Look at the script in this letter." Matthew’s emotions had stabilized. He pointed to the letter, tracing the lines of text with his finger as he spoke. "The content itself is nothing special—just a list of supplies."

"But the script used here... it’s a vile text that evolved from the evil symbols used by demons."

"For the most part, those who communicate using this script are followers of demons."

"Kobolds are inherently filthy and evil, so it’s no surprise they would be swayed by demons. What infuriates

is that the person who wrote this letter also used this wicked script."

"And since Knight Fang Zhen says this letter ca from Baron von Kleist, it ans soone close to the Baron—or even the Baron himself—has been corrupted by a demon from Hell. If Redstone Town were to fall into his hands, it would be a disaster."

After he finished, Matthew seed to realize sothing and quickly added, "Of course, knowing and being able to read this evil script doesn’t an anything in itself. Demonic writing also records certain facts, and quite a few scholars understand it. Many priests in the church do as well, such as myself."

"Being able to read the script itself is not a sin—it only indicates that one is learned. Writing and using it, however, is a sign of corruption."

"Knight Fang Zhen destroyed the Kobolds who had succumbed to the demons of Hell and exposed Baron von Kleist’s conspiracy. This naturally proves that he is not one of the fallen."

"It only proves that Knight Fang Zhen possesses not only great courage and strength, but also knowledge that is every bit its equal."

"Oh, Tade preserve us." Hearing the connection to demons, Ande instantly shut his eyes and traced an equilateral triangle over his chest.

Fang Zhen understood.

’So that was it. The letter used a forbidden script.’

Matthew’s explanation jogged Fang Zhen’s mory.

’When I first saw the letter, I thought the script looked vaguely similar to so symbols I’d seen before, but I didn’t dwell on it.’

’Thinking back, the script on this letter did bear so resemblance to the one on the parchnt scroll I burned, and to the symbols on that evil-looking Sacrificial Summoning Array.’

’I’d only read the contents by relying on my talent for the mystical arts; I never actually studied either script. The sense of similarity was just a fleeting thought in my mind, so it’s understandable I didn’t connect the dots.’

’After all, when it cos to knowledge and understanding of demons, Hell, and evil symbols, the Priest in front of

is the expert.’

Fang Zhen wasn’t sure if Father Matthew’s last few remarks were his genuine thoughts, or if he had said them out of fear of Fang Zhen’s strength—a preemptive move to cover his bases and keep Fang Zhen placated.

’My gut tells

Matthew was probably being truthful.’

In any case, the fact that Matthew didn’t label Fang Zhen as evil for being able to read demonic script spoke volus about his position.

"Yes, it’s true I can read several scripts," Fang Zhen confird with a slight nod.

Matthew nodded, composed himself, and read the contents of the letter aloud.

Ande grew furious as he listened.

"How utterly shaless!"

"So all the suffering Redstone Town has gone through wasn’t fate—it was a plot by this detestable mastermind!" Ande’s face flushed red, his fists clenched in fury.

"We’ve already confird that Baron von Kleist is the mastermind, thanks to Rex’s testimony," Fang Zhen said.

Matthew also nodded, adding, "When I was being held in that cave, I overheard fragnts of the bandits’ conversations. They can corroborate that what Knight Fang Zhen said is indeed true."

After the three of them confird the matter, Ande’s anger suddenly seed to drain away, his expression shifting to one of dejection.

"If Baron von Kleist really is targeting Redstone Town, what hope do we have?"

"Redstone Town is only a semi-independent town, after all. We don’t have our own ard forces, and our protector, Viscount Ashton, can hardly protect himself."

"Once Baron von Kleist occupies Redstone Town, he’ll surely impose heavy taxes several tis over. Our lives will beco impossible," Ande said dejectedly.

When Fang Zhen saw Ande speaking like this, a faint smile played on his lips.
