Chapter 307: Chapter 218: Nightmare Difficulty
The information on the computer screen ended there.
The information he’d bought for five rit Points was just a preview; comprehensive details about the dungeon would only be fully unlocked after it began.
Fang Zhen scrolled through the information again, lost in thought.
Clearing a Nightmare difficulty dungeon would unlock the ability to spend rit Points to enter the dungeon’s world. This was a little unexpected, but it also made sense.
’Maybe it’s like an anchor. The more progress I make in conquering a world, the deeper my contact and influence beco, and the more stable that anchor gets. Once I can influence the course of world events, I’ll be able to enter at will.’
Fang Zhen had another theory: once he cleared a Hell difficulty dungeon, he would be able to enter its world freely, without spending rit Points.
’Based on the current trend, that theory seems plausible.’
’In that case...’
"Heh, in other words, if I can clear Nightmare and then Hell difficulty, I can start playing the long ga and just farm resources?"
Fang Zhen smiled.
He’d thought before about turning the Naless World into a stable source of resources.
Right now, he could only enter the Naless World while the dungeon was active, which made gathering resources incredibly difficult. He had to rely on indirect trade through proxies. As for building a base, that was out of the question; the dungeon would end before he could even move his supplies in.
But if he could enter at will, or even permanently, the ga would completely change.
Fang Zhen could even ticulously develop a small piece of land, carving out his own domain. While everyone else was still stuck in an agricultural society, he could sprint straight into an industrial age.
By creating a technological and economic gap, he could overwhelm his rivals and snowball his influence.
Within a few years, there was a good chance he could bring the entire Naless World under his control.
At that point, gathering any kind of resource would be countless tis faster than it was now.
For starters, just shuttling precious tals between the modern world and the Naless World would be enough to make a fortune, easily funding his future evolution and explorations.
As Fang Zhen thought this through, his spirits soared.
’The future is incredibly bright, full of promise. As long as I’m careful and don’t screw up, I’ll get there sooner or later.’
’But while the future is bright, the road is winding. To reach that ideal vision, I still have to take it one step at a ti.’
The first matter at hand was clearing the "Demon Duke" dungeon.
’Demon Duke...’
Fang Zhen looked at the dungeon’s na and felt sothing was off.
He wasn’t sure if "Demon Duke" referred to an actual Demon Duke from Hell or a Duke within the Kingdom of the Naless World.
If it were the forr, Fang Zhen felt it was unlikely.
First of all, Hell shouldn’t even feature in a setting like the Naless World. A dungeon involving Hell should be at least Hero or Legend difficulty, if not a Gods and Demons tier dungeon.
If it were truly a Demon Duke from Hell, a single one would be enough to bring about an apocalypse in the Naless World. They were on completely different levels; it would be impossible for one to even enter the Naless World.
A world like this one couldn’t withstand the power of a true demon’s arrival.
But if the "Demon Duke" dungeon implied that a demon was hiding within the Kingdom and had taken on the identity of a human Duke, sothing else didn’t add up.
Demons are not devils; their modi operandi are completely different.
Devils rely on complex contracts, conducting their evil deeds in an orderly fashion. They typically sign Soul Contracts with mortals to expand their power, influence, and territory.
Demons, by contrast, are much simpler. Motivated by chaos and destruction, their actions are unpredictable. Everything they do is for the sake of sowing destruction and tearing down the existing order.
Demons and devils are fundantally opposed. Though both are born of evil, one seeks to establish an evil order while the other seeks chaotic destruction. They are natural enemies.
It would be plausible if a devil had disguised itself as a human Duke. After all, devils are masters of conspiracy, so dabbling in politics would be perfectly reasonable.
But a demon, with nothing but chaos and destruction on its mind, could also disguise itself and manage to beco a Duke?
’That’s not right.’
Fang Zhen keenly sensed the contradiction.
But without more information unlocked, it was best not to speculate too much. He just felt that, judging by the na alone, the dungeon was full of contradictions. It likely wouldn’t be simple.
There was still so ti before the dungeon began. He planned to rest for a day or two, then begin a special training regin focused on clearing it.
...
「Half a month passed.」
Over that half-month, Fang Zhen made full use of his ti to strengthen himself.
In the end, he decided to put his two free attribute points into Constitution, raising it from 14 to 16.
And when his Constitution surpassed 15 points, just as he’d hoped, he experienced a minor qualitative leap.
Once his Constitution was over 15, a new note appeared on his status card.
Because Player "Fang Zhen’s" Constitution surpassed a minor threshold, he received several bonuses: stamina recovery efficiency increased by 100%, injury tolerance by 75%, wound recovery ability by 100%, and total physical energy by 75%. In addition, his resistance to all body-related negative statuses, like poison and weakness, increased by 75% over its original base.
This ant that when fatigued, he would recover twice as fast as an ordinary person. He would be much harder to kill even when seriously injured, and his wounds would heal at double the normal rate.
His stamina, in particular, was noteworthy.
’Stamina doesn’t necessarily an strength. In my understanding, things like strength and speed are my power output, while stamina is my total battery capacity.’
His body’s total energy reserves had increased—and they were already considerable. From a purely physical and biological standpoint, he was now, without a doubt, a high-energy individual.
