Judging by the personality Avera had shown, Fang Zhen thought otherwise.

He deduced that Avera had intended to take the Path of the Dead from the very beginning. She must have had a way to deal with the specters and wasn't as helpless as she claid.

That was all just an excuse, a performance.

If things had gone south, Avera surely had a way to save her own skin or escape.

She likely dragged Fang Zhen along because she wasn't confident she could defeat the Forbidden Realm Gatekeeper on her own and needed him for grunt work.

Of course, while Avera was using Fang Zhen, he was also using her.

They were simply using each other to get what they wanted.

Based on this deduction, Fang Zhen guessed that Avera's hidden trump card was a technique to counter specters, or perhaps one that mimicked them. So, even though his spear was still coated in a layer of Magic Grease that could have burned for at least ten more minutes, he cut off his Spiritual Power output and deliberately let the Magic Fla die out.

Sure enough, Avera possessed an ability similar to that of a specter. She glanced at Fang Zhen's spear, then launched her sneak attack.

But she never expected that, despite thinking her disguise was perfect, she was already playing right into Fang Zhen's hands.

Avera's expression was a mixture of complexity and bitterness.

But soon, her expression softened, and she looked at Fang Zhen with a surprisingly gentle gaze.

"I never thought that on top of being strong, you'd be so clever."

"I'm starting to like you more and more."

"I admit I was a bit impulsive. It was my mistake, and I apologize."

"You're both brave and cunning, and I have a wealth of information and knowledge that others can't access. If we team up, it would be a true powerhouse alliance. We could accomplish great things."

"Perhaps we could beco true partners. If you're willing, we could even beco lovers. That would be even better."

"What do you say?"

Fang Zhen smiled faintly and said simply, "Alright."

He agreed so readily that Avera was taken aback.

The next mont, Fang Zhen suddenly yanked Avera into his arms.

Avera flinched, a look of terror on her face, but a mont later, she regained a hint of her seductive expression.

"Aren't you being a little too hasty?"

"This isn't the right place for this."

Fang Zhen said nothing. Instead, he tightened his arms, crushing Avera against his plate-armored body.

"You—AH! It hurts!" Avera started to say sothing, but her face suddenly twisted in pain.

Fang Zhen whispered in her ear, "A mont ago, you were telling

you loved

while trying to stab

with a poisoned dagger."

"If that's what love is, then allow

to 'love' you back."

"Are you ready to receive my 'love'?"

Fang Zhen held Avera, his grip tightening, and a white light suddenly flashed across his arms.

He had activated the Power Mountain Seal.

Avera shrieked. The sound of cracking bones echoed from her arms and torso, and her eyes filled with terror.

Only then did Fang Zhen slowly release his grip.

Avera's legs gave out, and she crumpled to the ground. Her arms dangled limply, defying the natural instinct to use them to break her fall.

The Power Mountain Seal had crushed Avera's arms, completely neutralizing her ability to fight.

Sprawled on the ground, Avera had lost all her composure. Her eyes were filled with nothing but fear and terror.

Fang Zhen calmly watched Avera on the ground.

He hadn't held back. It seed the concept of showing tenderness to a beautiful woman was lost on him.

But that sort of chivalry was reserved for kind, beautiful, and fragile won who needed protecting.

And Avera was an enemy.

Fang Zhen was remarkably fair when it ca to his enemies. Once he judged soone to be a foe, there was no difference between a man and a woman.

He treated all his enemies equally, without exception.

A true believer in equality for all.

When this particular "virtue" of his was on display, so people had a hard ti adjusting.

Avera, for instance.

Avera truly never imagined Fang Zhen would be so decisive, so utterly ruthless.

"Hahahahaha! What a treat! I walk in just in ti to catch a great show. To think the scheming witch of the Fei Niao Family would suffer such a huge loss at your hands." A booming laugh echoed from behind Fang Zhen.

Fang Zhen didn't look surprised. He turned his head toward the source of the voice.

He had sensed soone's approach a mont ago but hadn't bothered to look.

Now, looking over, he saw Aiden Leing, clad in half-plate armor, erging from a tunnel on the far side of the area.

Following Aiden Leing was Connor Hai Chao, whom Fang Zhen had briefly glimpsed from a distance at the entrance to the forbidden land.

Both Aiden and Connor looked quite battered, as if they had just survived a major battle.

Both n originally had many subordinates, but now, Aiden Leing was only accompanied by a woman who used a bladed-leg Crystal Bone Technique and a Warrior who used a tortoiseshell energy Crystal Bone Technique.

Connor Hai Chao's retinue had been reduced to a single man: a silent, short-haired man in his thirties wielding a harpoon-like weapon.

Fang Zhen only needed a single glance to piece together what had likely happened.

'Aiden Leing and Connor Hai Chao must have taken the main path through the forbidden land. According to the dungeon information, the Resting Forbidden Land is filled with Forbidden Area Guards. The descriptions made the Forbidden Area Guards sound quite powerful, far stronger than the average Crystal Bone Master, though not very intelligent. It's hard to say if Aiden and Connor fought each other before this, but the mbers of the Lei Ming and Sea Tide Families must have realized they couldn't defeat the Forbidden Area Guards alone. So, they must have ford a temporary alliance to force their way through the main path. They clearly succeeded, but they paid a heavy price for it. More than half of their people must have fallen along the way, leaving only Aiden's small group to make it this far.'
