Chapter 685: 685
After dinner, they sat for a while longer. As people gradually left, only Da Bao remained. Lin Feng glanced at his watch. It was about ti.
"You go on ahead, I’m heading back," Lin Feng said.
Da Bao stood up. "Dad, let
walk you out."
Lin Feng waved his hand dismissively. "No need, no need. You’re busy, work is important. Don’t let
delay you."
Da Bao smiled. "A little ti like this is no problem."
Da Bao walked him out of the research institute. Looking at his son, now a grown man standing under the lights, Lin Feng felt a pang in his heart.
"Work is important, but your health is even more so! Make sure to eat well and get plenty of rest," Lin Feng began, finding he couldn’t stop once he started.
"If you have any problems, don’t keep them to yourself. You can talk to
and your mom. Don’t try to carry the weight of the world on your shoulders.
"If you run out of money, co to your dad. I have money, understand? As long as it’s a problem money can solve, you don’t have to worry. Dad is here for you!
"It’s cold up north, and autumn is just around the corner. Don’t catch a cold..."
He had only ant to say a few words, but a flood of them ca out instead. His child... from just two months old, he had watched him grow into an adult bit by bit. Now, they could only et once a year during the New Year. As a father, his heart truly ached!
Da Bao nodded. "Dad, I’ll take good care of myself. You and Mom should too."
"You don’t need to worry about . I’m all grown up, not a kid anymore!"
Lin Feng nodded with emotion. "Yes, you’re not a kid anymore!"
Transportation here was inconvenient, but luckily a staff mber had to run errands and offered Lin Feng a lift into the city.
"Go back inside. It’s cold and windy out," Lin Feng said, rolling down the window to wave at Da Bao. Watching his son stand there and see him off, his heart clenched.
Soon after, he received a call from Si Bao, who asked cheerfully, "Dad, where are you and my brother eating? Why not bring
along?"
The call instantly pulled Lin Feng out of his sentintal mood. "They’re busy. I just had dinner with your big brother in the cafeteria. I’m on my way back now."
"So, what are you planning to do tonight? How about I take you for a stroll?"
"Sure."
When they arrived, Lin Feng thanked the driver, got out of the car, and saw Si Bao wearing just two layers of clothing. The wind was howling, but Si Bao was dressed as if it were spring. The physical constitution of young people is really sothing else.
Lin Feng pulled his overcoat tighter. "Aren’t you cold?"
Si Bao grinned. "Nope, it’s just right."
"So, where are you taking ?" Lin Feng asked.
Si Bao giggled. "Let’s go shopping."
Lin Feng gave Si Bao a skeptical look. He knew his own son, more or less. A guy like him liked to go shopping? It would be more believable if he said he wanted to go eat. Just as he thought, his son wouldn’t stop buying snacks along the way. Lin Feng knew Si Bao was a foodie. As an athlete, he burned a lot of energy. While they walked, Lin Feng kept asking, "Want to eat this? How about that?"
Perhaps because he had loved sports and had a natural talent for them since he was young, Si Bao was the tallest of the four children. A tall figure of over 1.8 ters followed behind Lin Feng, laughing as carefree as a child.
"Dad, let’s go in and have a look."
Before they knew it, they had arrived at a mall in Jingcheng. Lin Feng had been here before and knew it was full of luxury goods. Seeing his son lead him directly into a boutique, he raised an eyebrow.
"I’d like to see this one," Si Bao said to the saleswoman, pointing at a stylish n’s wristwatch.
The saleswoman smiled and took it out. "Are you planning to buy it today?"
Si Bao presented it to Lin Feng like a treasure. "Dad, look. Isn’t this watch nice?"
Lin Feng nodded. "It’s nice, quite fashionable."
Si Bao grinned. "Dad, I like it. Can you buy it for ?"
Lin Feng pointed to his own watch. "Do you know how many years I’ve worn this one? It’s gone from being a new model to a classic. Five or six years now."
Si Bao’s current watch was bought just last year, more because he liked its look than for its practicality. During his training, there were clocks everywhere, and he even wore a stopwatch around his neck. The last thing he needed was another way to tell ti. Even though he was grown, Si Bao pouted like a child denied candy. "Oh."
It wasn’t that he didn’t have the money to buy the watch; he could afford it in an instant. He had been hemming and hawing for so long precisely because it wasn’t practical.
Lin Feng looked around. "How about I buy you so new clothes instead?"
Si Bao’s eyes lit up. "Let’s go, Dad! I’ve had my eye on an alpaca coat for a long ti. It looks amazing, but it was too expensive, so I couldn’t bring myself to buy it."
The coat’s style was excellent, and while the price was a bit steep, it wasn’t a significant expense for a family like theirs. But when it ca to raising children, especially boys, Lin Feng didn’t want them to develop a habit of spending money lavishly. Seeing how much his son, who had been longing for it for so long, liked it, Lin Feng said decisively, "Buy it."
Si Bao bead. "Thanks, Dad!"
The nearby staff mbers were stunned. Dad? Damn, such a young and handso father? For real? Must be a joke!
On this shopping trip, Lin Feng bought Si Bao two outfits he liked, two pairs of sneakers, and a basketball. Si Bao was overjoyed. It was safe to say they returned that night with a full haul.
When Lin Feng and his son returned to the rented apartnt, he noticed it was quite tidy. "Did you clean this yourself?"
It was a one-bedroom, one-living-room apartnt that Si Bao had been renting for over a year.
"Yeah," Si Bao replied. "Dad, let’s sleep here together tonight. No need to go to a hotel. There’s enough room."
Lin Feng said with mock disgust, "Your feet are too slly. I don’t want to sleep with you."
Si Bao yelped, "They are not slly!"
With the heating on in the northern apartnt, Lin Feng soon took off his coat and changed into one of his son’s T-shirts.
"Dad, ice cream!"
Lin Feng took the small pudding ice cream bar and made a video call to Zhang Yuxi.
Zhang Yuxi laughed when she saw him. "Eating ice cream, are we?"
"Yeah!" Lin Feng replied.
He had barely spoken when Si Bao sat down next to him, showing off the treasures from their shopping trip.
"Mom, look! Dad bought all of this for ... Look, Mom!"
Zhang Yuxi watched her son show off his loot with a wide smile. "Not bad, they all look very nice!" Then she asked, "Your dad bought you so much. Did you buy anything for him?"
Si Bao’s smile froze on his face. "No..." he mumbled, then quickly added, "I’ll make it up to him during the New Year!"
Parents don’t actually covet things from their children; they just want to see if the sentint is there.
After chatting for a long ti, they ended the video call. Lin Feng then sent a ssage to Er Bao. The younger ones must be asleep by now...
By the ti the father and son lay down, it was already eleven o’clock. Si Bao tossed and turned, unable to sleep. He propped his head up on his hand and looked at his father.
"Dad, this is the first ti we’ve slept in the sa bed since we all got our own rooms, isn’t it?"
"Mm, it’s been twenty years," Lin Feng’s voice was filled with emotion.
Si Bao looked his father over and remarked with a sigh, "Twenty years, and you haven’t aged a day!"
Lin Feng didn’t say anything.
Si Bao’s curiosity was piqued. "Dad, tell
the story of you and Mom. You’ve never ntioned it since we were kids."
Lin Feng glanced at him. "What do you want to know?"
Si Bao tilted his head. "How you t, how we ca to be..."
Lin Feng had never told his children these things. He’d always felt that it would seem unreliable for a parent to speak of such frivolous matters.
He gave a vague reply. "We just... t. Why don’t you tell
what you’ve been up to? You’re busy in Jingcheng all year, so your mom and I don’t really know what’s going on with you."
Si Bao felt there wasn’t much to tell about himself either.
Lin Feng blinked. "You’re a man now. Let’s have a man’s talk."
Si Bao was baffled. "???"
Lin Feng began, "Have you, uh, you know..."
Si Bao, mortified, cut in, "Dad! Let’s not say anything. Let’s just sleep. It’s already eleven-thirty."
Lin Feng was left speechless. He hadn’t even asked anything yet.
