Chapter 38: Chapter 38: Yunfeng Takes Action

"They’re really doing this?"

Liu Yunfeng’s expression suddenly sank, his seriousness tinged with anger.

In Linji Prefecture City, the City Guard Office was the keeper of public order and the enforcer of the law. It held supre power and authority and would not tolerate being offended by anyone.

Forget a Chief Constable—even a regular constable or a Preparatory Constable, as long as they were on the City Guard Departnt’s roster, was one of the departnt’s own and fell under its protection.

It had always been the City Guard Departnt going after others; it was unheard of for soone to dare to touch one of their own.

"Do you know who they are?"

Chen Cheng answered truthfully, "The people tailing

before were very careful. They never gave

a chance to get close, so I had no way of knowing."

"However, yesterday, I used a trick to expose the man following

on the street. He had the Flying Eagle Gang’s insignia on his clothes, so he must be one of their n."

"The Flying Eagle Gang... What audacity!" Liu Yunfeng’s expression grew even colder. His tall fra suddenly stood ramrod straight as the ferocious montum of a Perfect Martial Artist of the Skin Grinding Realm erupted from him, making him seem like a savage beast ready to devour its prey at any mont.

This was the first ti Chen Cheng had witnessed the forceful side of this Chief Constable from the Ruyi Square Sub-Departnt, and he felt a flicker of admiration in his heart.

’Anyone who could climb to the position of Chief Constable was bound to be an extraordinary figure.’

"The one trying to make a move on you... it must be that Incense Master under Cao Fei, the one nad Zhou Biao?"

Liu Yunfeng was naturally aware of the incident where Zhou Biao’s n broke into the Chen Family’s ho at night. However, Chen Cheng wasn’t part of the City Guard Departnt back then, and he hadn’t suffered any significant losses. Since the Flying Eagle Gang had been behaving themselves afterward, he hadn’t pursued the matter.

But now, Chen Cheng was a mber of the City Guard Departnt—his, Liu Yunfeng’s, own subordinate. For the Flying Eagle Gang to still dare to target Chen Cheng was no different from provoking Liu Yunfeng himself.

Chen Cheng nodded. "The only one who would want to co after

should be Zhou Biao."

"Go and inform Liao San. Tell him to gather everyone from our shift," Liu Yunfeng ordered, making his decision after only a mont’s thought.

"Yes, sir." Chen Cheng acknowledged the order and went out to find Liao San.

As one of the most powerful Chief Constables in the Ruyi Square Sub-Departnt, Liu Yunfeng also had the most constables under his command.

Just a quarter of an hour later, nearly forty constables had assembled in the Ruyi Square Sub-Office, forming two crowded rows.

Every one of them wore a Long Saber at their waist, their bodies ramrod straight, their expressions stern, and their presence nacing.

Seeing such a large formation, the constables from the other shifts at the Ruyi Square Sub-Office were all secretly alard, wondering if a major case had just broken.

Seeing that his n had assembled, Liu Yunfeng said nothing. With a wave of his hand, he took the lead and strode out of the sub-office.

The Flying Eagle Gang’s headquarters was not located in the district under Liu Yunfeng’s jurisdiction. The group crossed two major streets and turned through three alleys before arriving at the front of a deep, dark alleyway.

At the mouth of the alley, a dozen or so Flying Eagle Gang mbers, dressed in martial attire and holding Long Sabers, stood guard.

Seeing so many officials suddenly arrive, each one as fierce and nacing as a wolf or tiger, the gang mbers were instantly scared pale. Their legs trembled so violently they could barely stand, shaking like chaff in the wind.

’Are these officials here to wipe out the Flying Eagle Gang?’

One of the leading gang mbers spun around and bolted down the alley.

Liu Yunfeng gave a sharp wave of his hand.

"Take them all down!"

The constables sward forward like a pack of wolves descending on their prey. The Flying Eagle Gang mbers didn’t dare to resist, dropping their Long Sabers and fleeing with their heads in their hands.

But they were no match for the elite constables of the City Guard Departnt. They were all taken down after just a few steps, and a vicious beating followed.

The City Guard Departnt constables were not a rciful lot. They struck with extre ruthlessness—punching chests, kicking heads, and even using the backs of their sabers to hack at arms and legs without the slightest hesitation.

The gang leader who had tried to run back and sound the alarm was caught by Liao San, who was even more vicious. With one slash, Liao San severed the man’s calf. He followed up by smacking the man’s cheek with the flat of his blade, knocking him unconscious. Then, he delivered several heavy kicks to the man’s chest, directly breaking his ribs.

For a mont, the entire alley echoed with agonizing howls, pleas for rcy, and desperate cries.

Liu Yunfeng strode forward. After giving the dozen or so gang mbers a thorough beating, the constables followed close behind.

The Flying Eagle Gang mbers guarding the main gate were scared out of their wits. They didn’t even have ti to close the gate before scrambling into the headquarters in a panic.

The group entered the main gate and saw sixty to seventy Flying Eagle Gang mbers holding Long Sabers, guarding the front courtyard. Every one of them had a grave expression, as if facing a powerful enemy.

"Who are you? How dare you barge into the Flying Eagle Gang’s headquarters!"

Just then, an angry shout rang out.

The Flying Eagle Gang mbers parted to form a path as Gang Leader Cao Fei hurried over from the rear courtyard with his Incense Masters.

Cao Fei was dressed in a brocade robe. He had a portly figure, broad and round at the waist, a face full of whiskers, and he carried an enormous Ghost Head Saber.

A large goshawk was perched on his shoulder. The hawk’s eyes were sharp, clearly a ferocious bird of prey.

"I was wondering who was so bold as to barge into my Flying Eagle Gang’s headquarters. So it is Chief Liu gracing us with his presence. Cao Fei apologizes for not coming out to greet you sooner!"

Recognizing the visitor, Cao Fei cupped his fists. The fleshy skin of his face twitched, and his large, bell-like eyes held a hint of anger, as well as so confusion.

The Flying Eagle Gang had always minded its own business when it ca to the City Guard Departnt. They never failed to pay their required tribute to the departnt, not short by a single coin.

He truly couldn’t understand why Liu Yunfeng would suddenly show up with his n.

’Could it be that the Flying Eagle Gang has offended the City Guard Departnt? That’s impossible. The gang would dare to provoke anyone but the City Guard Departnt.’

’Even if so fool of a gang mber had caused trouble, it shouldn’t be Liu Yunfeng who cos here personally.’

’After all, the Flying Eagle Gang’s headquarters isn’t even in Liu Yunfeng’s jurisdiction.’

Liu Yunfeng’s expression was grim. He said coolly, "Gang Leader Cao, your Flying Eagle Gang is truly arrogant!"

Cao Fei, not understanding, said, "Chief Liu, my Flying Eagle Gang has always followed the rules and been respectful to the City Guard Departnt. Where does this talk of arrogance co from?"

Liu Yunfeng snorted coldly. "So, Gang Leader Cao, you do know about being respectful to the City Guard Departnt. In that case, I’d like to ask you: where did your Flying Eagle Gang get the nerve to go after one of my, Liu Yunfeng’s, brothers?"

Cao Fei’s brow twitched. He grew even more confused. "Chief Liu, could there be so misunderstanding?"

"Ah Cheng," Liu Yunfeng called out.

Chen Cheng quickly stepped forward. "Chief Liu."

Liu Yunfeng said, "Why don’t you tell Gang Leader Cao all about how the Flying Eagle Gang tried to harm you."

Chen Cheng glanced at Zhou Biao, who was standing behind Cao Fei, and said, "Not long ago, two of Incense Master Zhou Biao’s n broke into my ho at night. I killed one of them, and the other escaped, wounded."

"Over the past few days, n from the Flying Eagle Gang have been secretly tailing . If I hadn’t been so careful, I’m afraid I would have already fallen victim to their treachery."

Cao Fei saw Chen Cheng’s gray uniform and recognized him as rely a Preparatory Constable. The fact that Liu Yunfeng would storm his headquarters for a re Preparatory Constable couldn’t help but stir so anger in his heart.

But if Zhou Biao had really tried to move against soone from the City Guard Departnt, then he was the one in the wrong first.

"Zhou Biao, is this true?"

The mont Zhou Biao saw Chen Cheng, he knew things were bad. He quickly leaned in and whispered to Cao Fei, explaining his feud with Chen Cheng.

After finishing his explanation, he added, "Gang Leader, when Tian Qi and the others broke into the Chen Family’s ho, Chen Cheng wasn’t part of the City Guard Departnt yet."

"As for what happened later, I consulted with Chief Zhao. Chief Zhao said that as long as it was done secretly and Chen Cheng was killed without anyone knowing, then naturally, no one would find out."

"Even if the City Guard Departnt investigated, Chief Zhao said he could suppress the matter."

After hearing the full story, Cao Fei was both shocked and enraged, his expression flickering between anger and uncertainty.
