Chapter 31: REVENAGE FOR WHAT EXACTLY? 2
We rested for so ti, and soon the journey started once again. Everyone walked together. Fu Fei didn’t stop talking, and her chatter made the journey more enjoyable. Fu Tong cracked a joke once or twice, and it was enough to make everyone laugh. Even the people walking near us laughed along.
Before long, we reached a hill, a tall hill. The guards at the front stopped, and the head guard spoke briefly with his assistant. After they finished talking, both of them walked toward everyone.
"Listen carefully," the head guard announced. "It’s already getting dark. There is a path up the hill. We will climb it and rest there for the night. Tomorrow, we will continue our journey."
His assistant stepped forward and added, "This hill is the only thing stopping us from reaching Wu Village today. Get ready to climb and set up camp. Stay in line. The children should be carried, and those who are injured or weak must be helped."
The group grew quiet as everyone prepared themselves.
Fu Tong frowned slightly and looked toward the hill. "How are we supposed to do this?" he asked. "The path is steep."
Fu Teng glanced at their father on the wagon, worry clear on his face. "Father is injured," he said quietly. "How are we going to carry him up there?"
I was just about to speak when Fu Sheng stepped forward.
"There’s no need to argue," he said calmly, his voice steady. "Fu Teng, you’ll carry Father on your back and climb first. Take it slow and steady."
Fu Teng froze for a mont, then nodded firmly.
Fu Sheng continued, already thinking ahead. "I’ll pull the wagon. All the bundles should be placed on it so no one has to carry extra weight while climbing."
He turned to Fu Tong. "You’ll carry the boys. That way, the won won’t struggle on the way up."
Fu Tong blinked, then broke into a grin. "Leave it to ."
Fu Teng adjusted his stance, preparing himself, and Fu Tong crouched to lift the boys.
Watching all of this, I couldn’t help but smile.
There was sothing about the way Fu Sheng handled things, calm, clear, and without hesitation. I felt a small spark of pride and amusent as I silently admired my husband.
Fu Tong and Fu Teng nodded again and moved to do exactly as instructed.
Fu Sheng turned and walked toward the wagon, ready to begin.
But before he could reach it, I stepped forward and blocked his path.
He stopped and looked down at , slightly surprised.
I tilted my head and smiled at him teasingly. "Wow," I said lightly, "look at you giving orders like a real leader. Should I start calling you General Fu now?"
His brows lifted slightly, clearly not expecting that.
I clasped my hands behind my back and leaned closer, my tone playful. "Be careful," I added, "if you keep being this attractive, I might loose my self control." saying that, i bit my lower lip slightly before turning and walking towards mother."
As soon as the arrangents were made, voices started rising from the other side.
Fu Jia frowned and crossed her arms, looking up at the steep hill. "How are we supposed to climb this?" she complained. "This isn’t sothing won like us can just walk up easily."
Beside her, Bai Ming also looked uneasy. She sighed loudly, clearly unhappy. "That’s right. This path is too steep. What if we slip? What if we get hurt?"
Li Manman stood next to them, silent and helpless, glancing up the hill and then back at the guards, her face pale and unsure.
Aunt Fu joined in as well, her voice sharp with dissatisfaction. "This is unreasonable. They expect us to climb such a hill when it’s already dark?"
Uncle Fu stepped forward and spoke calmly, "I’ll help Mother. I’ll assist Grandma Fu up the hill."
Before he could say anything else, Grandpa Fu snorted and waved his hand. "I’m still alive," he said firmly. "Why would I let you carry my wife?"
Uncle Fu paused.
Grandpa Fu continued, his tone stubborn, "You should focus on your own wife instead. The rest of us can manage."
Aunt Fu scoffed the mont she heard that. She glanced sideways at her husband, her eyes full of irritation, then turned around sharply.
Uncle Fu rolled his eyes and sighed, then followed after her without another word.
Nearby, Bai Ming smiled faintly and slowly walked toward Fu Fong. She rubbed her leg lightly and spoke in a soft, pitiful voice. "My legs hurt so badly," she said. "I don’t know if I can climb the hill by myself."
But Fu Fong barely looked at her.
His attention was fixed elsewhere on Su Longjie, who was talking with Fu Fei and Mada Fu not far away. He didn’t seem to hear Bai Ming at all.
Just then, two small voices rang out.
"Papa!"
Fu Qin and Fu Lin ran toward him, their little legs moving as fast as they could. Fu Fong finally looked down at them.
Without saying much, he lifted both children and placed them into Bai Ming’s arms.
"You’ll carry them," he said plainly. "They’re light."
With that, he turned around and walked away, leaving Bai Ming standing there in shock, her forced smile slowly fading as she held the children tightly.
Ahead of us, people were already beginning to move.
The climb was about to start, whether anyone liked it or not.
The head guard lifted his arm and gave the order again, his voice firm and impatient. "Start moving. Begin the climb."
No one dared to hesitate.
Fu Tong and Fu Teng imdiately moved as Fu Sheng had instructed earlier. Fu Teng crouched slightly and carefully lifted Father onto his back, adjusting his grip until Father was secure before taking his first step.
He moved slowly, carefully testing each step on the steep ground. Fu Tong, on the other hand, bent down and lifted the boys with ease, settling them comfortably in his arms before following behind.
Fu Sheng walked to the front of the wagon and wrapped his hands around the rope. All the bundles had been stacked onto it, tied tightly together, but even so, the weight was obvious the mont he pulled.
The wagon resisted him, the wheels struggling against the uneven ground as he leaned his body forward and forced it to move.
The group began climbing slowly, step by step. No one spoke much now. Everyone was focused on keeping their balance, watching their footing, and pushing forward despite the growing strain in their legs.
The guards followed closely behind, urging people forward whenever the pace slowed too much.
The climb was far harder than it had looked from below.
About halfway up, Fu Sheng pulled again, putting more strength into it, but his foot suddenly slid on loose dirt. His body tilted forward sharply, and the wagon jerked to the side.
A sharp gasp rippled through the group.
Mada Fu cried out in fear, and the children clutched onto Fu Tong tightly.
Before anyone else could react, I rushed forward. I grabbed Fu Sheng’s arm with both hands and pulled back with everything I had, my feet digging into the ground as I dragged him toward . He stumbled but managed to regain his balance, his grip tightening just in ti to steady the wagon.
The danger passed.
Everyone let out a breath they hadn’t realized they were holding.
But the mont I relaxed, a sharp pain shot through my ankle.
I sucked in a breath and hissed quietly, my fingers tightening as the pain spread upward. This ti, i wasn’t even pretending.
Fu Sheng turned imdiately, his face tense. "Su Long, are you hurt?"
Before I could answer, Fu Jia scoffed loudly from behind us, her voice full of impatience as she rolled her eyes. "What’s wrong with her now?"
I tried to step back, not wanting to slow everyone down. I told myself to endure it. But the mont I put weight on my foot, pain exploded again, so sharp that my leg nearly gave out beneath .
The line ca to a stop.
The head guard noticed at once and shouted from behind, his voice cutting through the air. "Why did everyone stop? Keep moving!"
I clenched my teeth and forced myself upright. "I’m fine," I said quickly, even managing a weak smile. "It’s nothing."
But just then, soone pushed through the crowd.
Fu Fong.
He walked straight past everyone, past Fu Sheng, without saying a word. He stopped in front of , bent down, and before I could react, lifted
into his arms. His grip was firm, steady, leaving no room for argunt.
"I’ll help you up," he said simply.
Then he turned and began climbing again, carrying
as if this was the most natural thing to do.
I was completely stunned, my hands gripping his sleeve as my mind went blank.
Fu Sheng stood frozen for a brief mont. His expression darkened, his jaw tightening as he watched. But he said nothing. He turned back to the wagon, wrapped the rope around his hands once more, and began pulling again, his movents heavier, more forceful than before.
Behind us, Bai Ming stared at the scene, her fingers curling tightly as she whispered under her breath, her voice sharp with bitterness. "I’m suffering here, yet my husband is busy helping another woman..."
Nearby, Uncle Fu shook his head lightly, a small smile tugging at his lips as he let out a quiet sigh.
"That’s my son.. haha."
