Chapter 147: Chapter

The carriage wheels rolled slowly over the damp ground as Fu Tong and Fu Teng left the courtyard. No one spoke while watching them go. After a mont, the gate closed, and silence filled the space again. The courtyard suddenly felt empty.

I stood still for a short mont and looked toward the gate. Then I turned back.

"Fu Fei. Fu Li," I called.

They both looked at

imdiately.

"Yes," Fu Li answered.

I stepped closer to them.

"We do not have much ti," I said calmly. "They will return tonight with the Zhao sisters."

They understood right away.

"This is not a formal wedding," I continued, "but they are bringing their future wives into this house. Their rooms must be prepared."

Fu Fei nodded without hesitation.

"We will do it," she said.

Fu Li straightened her posture.

"What needs to be done?" she asked.

"Their rooms should be cleaned again," I explained. "Change the bedding, arrange everything properly, and add simple decorations. It does not have to be grand, but it should look presentable."

Fu Li nodded quickly.

"I understand," she said.

Fu Fei added, "We will make sure everything is ready before they return."

I gave a small nod.

"Go now," I said.

They did not waste any ti. Both of them turned and left imdiately, already talking about what needed to be done as they walked away. Their voices slowly faded into the house.

Behind , Mada Fu spoke.

"We will prepare the food," she said.

I turned slightly to look at her. She was already on her feet, and Bai Ming stood beside her.

"There should be sothing warm ready when they return," Mada Fu added. "It has been a long day."

Bai Ming nodded.

"I will start right away," she said.

Mada Fu looked at .

"You should rest for a mont," she said gently. "You have done enough for today."

I shook my head.

"There is still work to finish," I replied.

She did not argue. She only nodded, then turned and walked toward the kitchen with Bai Ming.

The courtyard beca quiet again. Only the faint sounds of movent inside the house could be heard.

I stood there for a mont.

Everything was moving forward, step by step. There was no ti to delay.

I turned and walked inside.

There was still much to prepare before they returned.

Fu Fei and Fu Li worked quickly inside Fu Tong’s room.

The room had already been cleaned before, but they carefully went through everything again. Fu Fei wiped the table and arranged the small items neatly, while Fu Li pulled the bedding straight and smoothed it carefully with both hands.

Slowly, the room began to look different.

It looked more prepared.

More intentional.

Fu Li stepped back and looked at the bed for a mont.

Then she spoke.

"I feel for them," she said softly.

Fu Fei paused and turned slightly to look at her.

"For who?" she asked.

"For both of them," Fu Li replied. "Everything is happening too fast."

She adjusted the pillow again before continuing.

"Especially Fu Tong."

Fu Fei watched her closely.

"Why especially him?" she asked.

Fu Li hesitated for a brief mont.

Then she spoke in a quieter voice.

"Because he already liked soone else," she said.

Fu Fei’s expression changed imdiately.

"What do you an?" she asked.

Fu Li glanced toward the door, then lowered her voice even more.

"He likes An Nuan," she said. "She is An Yu and An Li’s younger sister."

Fu Fei beca still.

She looked at Fu Li with clear surprise.

"Are you certain?" she asked.

Fu Li nodded.

"I noticed it before," she said. "The way he acted around her was different."

Fu Fei did not speak right away.

She thought about it carefully.

Then she spoke again.

"Does anyone else know?" she asked.

Fu Li shook her head.

"I do not think so," she said. "He never said anything openly."

Fu Fei lowered her gaze slightly.

"That makes this more difficult," she said.

Fu Li let out a soft sigh.

"Yes," she replied. "But what can be done?"

She looked at the bed again.

"There is no ti to think about feelings right now," she added. "Everything is about survival."

Fu Fei did not argue.

She simply nodded.

"I know," she said quietly.

The room beca silent again.

They continued their work.

I stood on a wooden stool and tied a red ribbon across the gate.

The bright fabric stood out against the wood. Although the ground was still damp from the rain, the entrance looked more prepared and more alive.

The children moved around

and helped where they could.

Fu Jun held one end of the ribbon with both hands. He kept it steady and did not let it slip. Fu Jin stood beside

and passed

what I needed without being asked. He watched carefully and paid attention to every step.

An Na and Day Lin walked back and forth as they brought small items and adjusted the decorations.

"Hold it higher," I said.

Fu Jun lifted his hands.

"Like this?" he asked.

"Yes," I replied.

I tied the knot firmly and adjusted it so it sat properly. Then I stepped down from the stool and looked around.

The entrance was not grand, but it was clean and orderly.

It was enough.

I picked up another ribbon and turned toward the gate.

As I raised my hand, I sensed movent.

I turned and saw two people entering the courtyard.

An Li.

And An Nuan.

I paused and lowered my hand.

They walked further inside.

An Li stood straight and looked around calmly. An Nuan stayed slightly behind her and observed everything quietly.

For a mont, no one spoke.

Then I stepped down fully and faced them.

"You ca," I said.

My voice was calm.

An Li nodded.

"We heard sothing was happening here," she said.

She glanced at the ribbons and then looked back at .

"So we ca to see."

I t her gaze.

"And now you have," I said.

My tone did not change.

An Nuan remained silent. She continued to observe everything carefully.

I stepped away from the stool and faced them.

"There will be a small ceremony tonight," I said. "Fu Tong and Fu Teng are bringing their future wives ho."

For a brief mont, both of them reacted.

An Li’s brows lifted slightly, and An Nuan’s eyes widened before she could hide it.

"Marriage?" An Li asked.

"Yes," I replied.

"It is sudden," she said.

"It is necessary," I answered.

An Li looked at

for a mont, then her expression returned to calm.

"That is good," she said. "Congratulations to them. They found wives quickly."

Her tone remained steady and controlled, as if nothing about the news disturbed her.

I did not respond imdiately.

My attention shifted to An Nuan.

She had not spoken.

Her expression had changed, but not in the sa way.

There was surprise, but there was also sothing else beneath it.

Sothing she could not hide in ti.

Her gaze lowered, and she looked away. Her hands tightened slightly at her sides.

She remained silent.

I watched her for a mont.

Then I spoke again.

"They will return before night," I said. "That is why the house is being prepared."

An Li nodded.

"That makes sense," she said.

Her voice stayed calm.

But An Nuan still said nothing.

The difference between them was clear.

I turned slightly and picked up another ribbon.

"There is still work to do," I said.

My voice was calm.

But my thoughts were not.

An Li had accepted it too easily.

And An Nuan had not.

Before I could say anything more, An Li spoke.

"We should help," she said.

Her voice was calm and direct.

An Nuan glanced at her, then nodded quickly, as if she had already made up her mind.

"I will go to the kitchen," An Nuan said. "They will need more hands there."

She did not look at

when she spoke.

Her voice was steady, but it carried a quiet urgency.

An Li watched her for a mont, then shifted her attention back to .

"Then I will stay here," she said. "There is still work at the gate."

I studied them both briefly.

One chose to leave.

The other chose to remain.

"I understand," I said.

An Nuan gave a small nod and turned at once. She walked toward the house without delay, her steps quick but controlled.

I watched her go for a mont.

Then I turned back.

An Li had already stepped closer.

She picked up a ribbon from the side without asking.

"Where should this go?" she asked.

Her tone was calm, as if nothing had changed.

I pointed toward the other side of the gate.

"There," I said. "Tie it higher."

She nodded and stepped onto the stool without hesitation.

Her movents were steady and precise.

I watched her for a mont, then picked up another ribbon.
