Chapter 122: Chapter

"Where are you girls going?" Mada Fu called out as she saw Bai Ming, Fu Fei, and Fu Li heading toward the gate.

"Ma, I already told you," Fu Li replied, turning back slightly as she spoke. "We are going to look for work. We cannot let only brother and sister-in-law handle everything. We have to contribute sohow."

Her voice was firm, but not disrespectful.

Mada Fu frowned.

"This is not the ti to be wandering outside," she said. "It is not safe."

"Ma, we will be careful," Fu Fei added gently. "We will not go far, and we will co back early before anything happens. You do not have to worry about us."

But before she could say more, Fu Li had already grabbed her hand, along with Bai Ming’s, and started pulling them toward the gate.

"Co on, let us go," Fu Li said.

"Wait— you..." Mada Fu tried to stop them, but they were already moving too fast.

"Fu Li!" she called out. "You stubborn girl, you never listen!"

But the three of them were already out of the courtyard.

Mada Fu stood there for a mont, then let out a helpless sigh.

"...This child," she muttered before turning and heading back inside.

The mont they stepped out of the gate and were far enough from the house, Fu Li finally slowed down, and the tension from earlier broke almost imdiately.

She let out a laugh.

Bai Ming covered her mouth slightly, unable to hold back her own smile, while Fu Fei shook her head.

Then—

Fu Fei raised her hand and lightly hit Fu Li on the head.

"Ah!" Fu Li frowned, rubbing her head. "What was that for?"

Fu Fei looked at her, clearly not pleased.

"Did you not tell

that Mother agreed?" she said. "You were so confident just now."

Fu Li avoided her gaze for a second.

"...I thought she would agree," she muttered.

"You thought?" Fu Fei repeated, her brows drawing together. "You dragged us out based on what you thought?"

Fu Li quickly turned to her, her expression turning defensive.

"If we waited for her to agree properly, we would never leave the house," she said. "And you know that too."

Fu Fei opened her mouth to respond, but paused.

Because she did know.

Bai Ming, who had been quiet, let out a soft laugh.

"She is not entirely wrong," she said.

Fu Fei looked at her, then sighed.

"You two are the sa," she said.

Fu Li imdiately brightened.

"See?" she said proudly. "Even Bai Ming agrees with ."

"I did not say I agree," Bai Ming replied calmly. "I only said you are not completely wrong."

Fu Li paused.

"...That sounds the sa," she said.

"It is not," Fu Fei said at once.

The three of them stood there for a mont before Fu Li waved her hand lightly.

"Forget it," she said. "We are already outside, so there is no point going back."

She looked ahead, her expression turning more serious.

"Now we just need to find sothing to do."

Fu Fei adjusted her sleeve slightly.

"We should stay close to the main road," she said. "Do not go too far."

Bai Ming nodded.

"That is better," she added.

Fu Li did not argue this ti.

"Fine," she said. "But we cannot waste ti."

With that, the three of them began walking forward together, their steps steady as they moved further away from the house.

As they moved further along the road, nearing the exit of Unit 50, the flow of people suddenly changed.

Ahead of them, a large crowd had gathered.

It was not the usual movent of a market or people passing by. This was different. The crowd stood in one place, tightly packed, with voices rising and overlapping in uneasy tones.

Fu Li’s eyes lit up imdiately.

"What is happening there?" she said, already quickening her steps.

Before the others could stop her, she reached back and grabbed both Bai Ming and Fu Fei by the wrist, pulling them along.

"Let us go and see," she added.

Fu Fei frowned slightly.

"We should not get involved in unnecessary matters," she said.

But Fu Li did not slow down.

"We are just looking," she replied. "We will not do anything."

Bai Ming allowed herself to be pulled forward, though her gaze was already fixed on the crowd ahead, her instincts telling her sothing was not right.

By the ti they reached the edge of the crowd, it was difficult to see clearly.

People stood shoulder to shoulder, stretching their necks, whispering, so even standing on their toes to get a better view.

Fu Li tried to look past them.

"I cannot see anything," she said.

Fu Fei reached out and gently tapped the shoulder of a man standing nearby.

"What is happening here?" she asked.

The man glanced at them briefly before answering.

"So n were found dead," he said. "Their bodies are being taken away."

All three of them paused.

"Dead?" Fu Li repeated, her voice lowering.

The man nodded.

"They say it was not a normal death," he added. "It looks like they offended soone they should not have."

There was a slight shift in the air.

Even though death was not uncommon in the barren lands, there was sothing in his tone that made it sound different.

Fu Fei’s brows drew together slightly.

"...Let us go," she said quietly.

But Bai Ming did not move.

Sothing had already caught her attention.

"I want to see," she said.

Before the others could stop her, she stepped forward and carefully made her way through the crowd.

Her movents were steady, her eyes focused.

She slipped past one person, then another, ignoring the murmurs around her until she finally reached a place where she could see clearly.

And then—

She stopped.

Her eyes widened.

In front of her, several bodies were being carried away one after another by uniford guards. Their faces were pale, their bodies lifeless, and there were clear signs that whatever had happened to them had not been quick or clean.

But that was not what held her still.

It was their clothes.

Even though they were disordered and stained, she recognized them instantly.

There was no mistake.

Those clothes—

She had seen them before.

Just yesterday.

Her breath caught slightly.

"...They are dead?" she whispered.

Her voice was low, almost lost in the noise around her, but the shock in her eyes was unmistakable.

Behind her, Fu Li and Fu Fei finally reached her side.

"What did you see?" Fu Li asked.

Bai Ming did not answer imdiately.

Her gaze remained fixed on the bodies being carried away, her thoughts moving rapidly.

Those n—

The n who had surrounded her.

The one who had touched her.

Even the one who had laughed.

They were all there.

Lifeless.

One by one, being taken away like they had never mattered.

A strange feeling settled in her chest.

Slowly, she spoke.

"...It is them."

Fu Fei frowned.

"Who?" she asked.

Bai Ming finally turned to look at them.

Her voice was steady.

"The n from yesterday," she said.

Silence fell between the three of them.

Fu Li’s eyes widened.

"What?" she said.

Fu Fei’s expression hardened imdiately as she turned back to look at the scene.

The guards continued their work without pause, carrying the bodies away as the crowd slowly began to shift.

But Bai Ming remained still.

Her thoughts had already gone elsewhere.

There was only one thing in her mind now.

Han Fuji.

Her fingers tightened slightly at her side.

"Did he do this?" she said quietly.
