Chapter 8: Fleeing in Defeat?

“Before entering Morninglight Manor, did you not study the servant regulations?”

“Yes, Miss, I did.”

“Then recite the… mm…” Vivian began forcefully, but stopped halfway. She touched her chin and muttered to herself, “Which clause was it again…”

“Chapter 9, Clause 1,” Eve supplied. “Servants must obey the master’s orders unconditionally, must not question the master’s judgnt, and must not oppose the master’s will.”

“I knew that! I was rely testing you.”

“As you say, Miss.”

Eve smiled. Very well, child—you win. Whatever you say is correct. She thought that even if the church’s cross fell freely from its tower, it would not pierce a mouth this stubborn.

Vivian seed satisfied not being contradicted this ti, but suddenly rembered her purpose was not to test recitation.

In her haste to regain dominance, she even choked on her own breath. “Cough… then… why are you still not kneeling?”

She attempted to suppress this unconventional maid with an order befitting a master.

“I understand the principle,” Eve replied calmly. “However, I am not directly under Morninglight Manor. I am assigned personnel who serves only you. Therefore, a master-servant hierarchy does not exist.”

“What does that an?” Vivian frowned.

“It ans I have the right to refuse your command.” After speaking, Eve stopped lowering her head and instead looked straight toward the window.

That single action pierced Vivian’s nerves. To her, it was no longer rely verbal defiance but open contempt.

This lowly maid dared to behave as though she did not take her seriously after pinning her down earlier!

Even the maids who complained behind her back trembled before her. Among the hundred servants, this was the first to act so boldly.

Anger surged, kicking reason aside like a stray dog.

Yet…

Vivian had never truly intended to drive her away. At first she wished to punish her severely, but now she only wanted her to understand the concept called absolute loyalty.

“I do not care where you ca from! Once you enter Morninglight Manor, I am your master! Understood?!”

“As you say, Miss, but I—”

“Enough! Silence!”

“It would be wise to lower your voice. The bathroom is not well soundproofed. If other servants are drawn here and see us in this state, it may damage your reputation.”

Vivian nearly fainted. Was she failing to explain herself, or was this maid truly insane?

She patted her chest and breathed heavily, perhaps in need of a psychologist.

At least, that was Eve’s thought. Was that not considerate?

“Good… very good… you truly are sothing…”

“Thank you for the complint, Miss.”

“I…” Vivian opened her mouth helplessly.

She discovered that all her scolding and threats were like striking cotton against this unyielding white-haired maid.

Eve, however, felt nothing she said was wrong. Her direct superior was neither Vivian nor the Hatherin family head who introduced her—

Only the organization’s leader.

After a long mont, the cold night wind slipped in again, brushing across Vivian’s bare feet and chilling her.

She shivered, clearing the confusion in her mind.

Then she narrowed her eyes and reassessed the tall maid.

There would be plenty of ti in the future. No need to rush now. Certainly not because she yielded—or because she could no longer bear the cold.

eting her gaze, Vivian smiled without warmth, almost like a declaration of war. “You had better maintain this attitude. I have many ways to teach you how to behave like a proper ‘dog.’”

“I greatly anticipate that day,” Eve replied flatly.

She had confidence. Before coming here, the Hatherin family head had guaranteed she could resist this rebellious girl’s outbursts so long as she caused no harm.

Why such favor was granted, perhaps it was related to the leader. Eve did not know—only that she should comply.

“Tch.” Vivian clicked her tongue, then abruptly changed the topic. “Since you refuse to kneel, you will obey other orders, correct?”

“Please speak, Miss.”

“Now, escort

back to my room.”

Eve had expected another humiliating command. This one was acceptable. “Understood.”

Vivian lifted her chin proudly, childish as ever.

The next second, however, her smile froze and her eyes widened.

She never expected Eve’s thod of escorting her to be so direct.

“Hey! What are you doing?!”

“Carrying out your command, Miss.” Eve moved swiftly, bending before Vivian could retreat.

“I did not tell you to carry

like this!”

“It is the most efficient thod.”

Before Vivian could escape, she was lifted horizontally into Eve’s arms.

Delayed resistance ca—legs kicking wildly, hands striking Eve’s shoulder. “Put

down! I will count to three!”

Too late. Eve gave no opportunity, walking out of the bathroom and back into the dark corridor.

Vivian’s voice faltered, trapped behind rising lips, leaving only her small hands continuing their futile strikes.

Slap, slap, slap…

The sound echoed through the empty hall, oddly in rhythm with the maid’s footsteps.

Moonlight stread through the glass hall as Eve steadily ascended the stairs with the struggling Vivian.

She walked without distraction toward the rembered location of Vivian’s bedroom—the head maid had once ntioned it while assigning cleaning duties.

Gradually, the resistance weakened. Now forced into unprecedented proximity, Vivian felt the cold body temperature of the detestable maid.

Why is she so cold… like ice?

Lost in thought, she forgot she was pressed against Eve’s chest.

Why is it… comfortable? No, impossible! Why is she so well endowed?!

A faint blush finally rose on her pale cheeks.

“Miss, this is as far as I escort you.”

Vivian snapped back to awareness. “Oh… fine.”

She was set down, feet touching the floor again. Strangely, her sense of security did not increase.

“Wait.” She stopped the maid about to leave. “You are not planning to run away, are you?”

Eve paused, then smiled faintly in profile. “Rest assured, Miss. You will certainly see

tomorrow.”

“You had better,” Vivian huffed.

Her proud tone was brief—cut off by the closing door, leaving Eve standing alone.
