Chapter 74: You Are Strong, But Not Strong Enough
After leaving the room, Eve happened to see the back of a departing maid. It was probably the one who had just knocked and been harshly dismissed.
She did not leave imdiately. Instead, she stood there taking deep breaths. As if thinking of sothing, she raised her slender hand to cover her mouth.
Should she brush her teeth now…?
The taste in her mouth was too complicated for her to calm down—not only the sweetness of blood, but also a faint… saltiness. In short, it was hard to describe.
Forget it. She might as well take a bath to reset her condition. Cold water could soothe restless desires and suppress unsatisfied cravings. This was not the first ti she had done so.
Soon, steady footsteps of the white-haired maid echoed down the corridor as she walked farther away, accompanied by quiet smacking sounds.
“The taste still feels strange…”
……
The master of Morninglight Manor was asleep, and naturally her Personal Maid had nothing to do. She sat alone on the sofa in the hall, a small hand-carried basket of tomatoes placed on the coffee table.
Not very large.
It was almost empty already. Sitting beside her, the blonde Head Maid had been frowning from the beginning.
When she saw Eve reach into the basket again, bite a small opening in a tomato near her lips, and gently suck out the juice, she finally could not help asking worriedly:
“Mm… although I agree tomatoes are delicious, little sister Eve…”
Eve looked at her.
“Is eating so many really alright? If you are hungry, you should eat proper food instead, do you not think?”
Eve shook her head and remained silent, focusing on sucking the juice from the tomato. She squeezed it visibly out of shape, only eating it in small bites once it resembled a dried husk.
Damn it. The cold shower had done nothing. She could not understand why. She felt she must be ill, forced to rely on compensatory tomato-eating to suppress her craving.
Even with Sylvia, such a great beauty, sitting beside her, Eve felt no interest. On the surface all were blood bags, yet privately one was marked as unique.
Not full… only want to drink hers…
Seeing she still had no intention of stopping, Sylvia worried. Eating so many could cause malnutrition—and on an empty stomach it could easily cause stomach pain and diarrhea!
After thinking, she stopped hesitating. Without asking, she snatched the basket away and hid it behind her back like guarding food, eting the white-haired maid’s blank gaze.
“If the Head Maid wants so, there is no need to snatch.”
“No… that is not what I an.” Sylvia pushed away the reaching hand several tis. Unable to withstand it, she persuaded, “Even if it tastes good you cannot eat too much. What if you feel unwell? Young Miss still needs you. You cannot be so willful!”
Eve’s cheeks were puffed by tomatoes, her hands still restrained. She could easily break free, but instead blinked her ruby-like eyes, trying to persuade her to retreat.
“Even that look will not work.”
“Mmm… (swallows hard) but I am hungry…”
“You have eaten nearly a basket and you are still hungry?!”
Seeing Eve nod, Sylvia did not dare look further, afraid her heart would soften. She gently advised again, “Be good. Eat sothing else, alright?”
“I want this.”
If Ella had said that, she would have received at least a firm knock on the head instantly—enough to make her crouch while holding her head. Unfortunately, this was not Ella.
Sylvia’s inner logic conflicted. One side feared Eve would starve, the other feared she would overeat and get sick. Left brain versus right brain—finally she made a decision.
Resolving herself, she released Eve’s hands, then grabbed the basket behind her and ran with lightning speed.
Eve: ???
Such speed!
But I am not easy prey either.
Reacting instantly, Eve launched forward from the spot, leaping across the sofa and chasing out through the corridor and beyond the main house.
Thus began a chase.
Surprisingly, Sylvia was no ordinary person. Even wearing high heels, she could keep pace with Eve.
Was this reasonable? Were all maids like this?
Two figures darted like lightning, circling the pavilion in the Back Garden, tugging and pulling. The comical scene naturally drew the attention of other maids.
“Huh? Isn’t that—”
“What do you an the Head Maid is being chased?”
“So fast! I bet on the Head Maid winning.”
They forgot their work entirely just to watch. The usually gentle and steady Head Maid was actually playing around—and with the newcor rumored to have an affair with Young Miss?!
Sylvia ran with the basket while glancing back, seeing only a figure lowering her posture like a hunting beast.
The sight made her speed up again, her laughing voice drifting in the wind: “Ahaha~ Eve, can you stop chasing… sister is about to run out of strength~”
Though she was not even breathing hard.
Whoosh—whoosh—
The sound of air tearing apart passed the watching maids at extre speed. In an instant, without exception, skirts fluttered up, revealing panties of every color and style.
“Eek!” ×N
“How naughty!”
“I wasn’t wearing any today!”
Sothing strange seed mixed in, but never mind. The ga of pretend should end here. Eve pursued relentlessly, expression unchanged—she no longer wished to play.
At first she had been curious about the Head Maid’s ability. Indeed, anyone who could hold that position was not simple.
But… only this much.
“Too slow…”
As they circled back along the corridor into the Back Garden, light flashed within her blood-red eyes. The white-haired maid suddenly stepped forward, her heel exerting force as she leapt.
In midair she perford a graceful flip. Ti seed to slow, a shadow covering Sylvia’s upturned face, her expression filled with disbelief.
You were running and suddenly you started flying—what did that an?
Tap… tap…
Perfect landing. She seized the basket in one motion, even spun elegantly twice, calmly took a tomato from inside and bit it, looking invincible and carefree.
The smooth sequence stunned Sylvia completely. The black-and-white figure flashed past her, hair flowing, leaving only the fact of her defeat.
“Thank you, Sister Sylvia.”
“Ah… mm…” Sylvia was speechless.
Eve then bowed slightly, carried the basket away without looking back, leaving Sylvia alone standing there in a daze.
After a long while, Sylvia gazed in the direction she left, as if still seeing that elegant figure lingering.
“Huh? Why did I let her go… I should not have…”
She stopped mid-mutter, then showed a helpless yet indulgent smile.
After all, she had been unexpectedly impressed.
