Capítulo 1875: Chapter 1778: Fortune’s Fickle Hand

Li Changming said, “She lay on the bed, covered in scales on her face, arms, legs, all over her body. When I walked in, I almost didn’t recognize her. She was struggling on the bed. Seeing her in such pain, I was terrified, thinking sothing had happened to her. I was in such a hurry to call a doctor for her.”

“But after just a few steps, she stopped . She was adamant about not letting a doctor see her, saying she was afflicted by sothing dirty, which caused the strange illness. She also said she was afraid of Ruining and the surrounding neighbors finding out. She was already the laughingstock of the street and didn’t want to stir up a bigger storm.”

“I was in a panic, wishing I could bear the pain for her. I even thought about taking her away from Hua Country to Arica for treatnt. But no matter how I tried to persuade her, she refused and eventually drove

out, avoiding

from then on.”

“She has always been strong-willed. Once she made up her mind, no one could change it. I thought she was heartbroken and unwilling to live longer in this world. I felt deeply saddened and could only return to Arica alone.”

“Not long after, I received news that she had passed away due to illness. I knew there was nothing I could do to change it. I could only bury her deep in my heart.”

“Until I bought this Luminous Pearl and recalled those old events from back then, the long-held confusion in my heart began to unravel bit by bit.”

Huo Sining didn’t know what to say at this mont. From Li Changming’s simple words, she could sense a man’s deep feelings for a woman. But no matter how one rembers, what is missed is missed.

“Since you know my grandmother might not be dead and might have deceived you, why didn’t you return to the country to find her?”

After a mont of silence, Huo Sining’s curiosity got the better of her, and she couldn’t help but ask.

Li Changming laughed, “Find her? She wasn’t willing to see

even when she was alive. How could I find her when she’s ‘dead’? Perhaps she just didn’t want

involved in her complicated background and hoped I would live well. Or maybe she had long given up on that relationship, and all she had for

was childhood affection. But regardless of the reason, she chose to draw a line between us, and I respect her choice.”

Huo Sining found this conversation with Li Changming overwhelmingly heavy, with too much information to digest at once.

Seeing this elderly man connected so deeply with her grandmother was sothing she would never have believed without seeing the letters herself.

This old man, over seventy, sat in the chair, exuding a sense of desolation that made Huo Sining feel a pang in her nose, sighing endlessly.

From these letters, it was evident that her grandmother might have had feelings for this old man, but fate played tricks on them, causing them to miss each other repeatedly, leaving one to grow old hastily while the other’s youth was just right.

Huo Sining couldn’t help but sigh, “I think she might not have wanted not to go with you, but you already had a family at that ti. My grandmother’s marriage was destroyed by a mistress, forcing her to beco independent. I imagine a kind woman wouldn’t build her happiness on soone else’s pain. My grandmother certainly wouldn’t want your wife to endure the sa things she went through.”

Li Changming’s eyes showed endless regret and lancholy. His lips curled into a bitter smile that couldn’t be dispelled:

“Yes, at that ti, I already had two children.” Even though I expressed my willingness to divorce her, she still refused . She was always a principled and noble person who would never hurt innocent people for her selfish desires. Fate played its tricks, and all of this was my fault. No one else could be blad, not her or anyone else…”

Engaged in conversation with Li Changming in the study for the entire afternoon, Huo Sining felt agitated inside as she left the Li Family, feeling that all her knowledge had been shattered by Li Changming’s old stories.

Grandmother and father, both of their loves had ended in vain. Where did she find the confidence to believe she and Gu Xu could grow old together?

Huo Sining really wanted to take out her phone to call Gu Xu, but after she took the phone out, she hesitated and rubbed on that familiar phone number for a long ti without calling.

Returning to the hotel in a daze, as soon as Huo Sining stepped into the lobby, she saw the man sitting on the sofa, craning his neck and staring intently at the entrance.

Huo Sining’s mind went blank, unable to distinguish between reality and illusion for a mont—had her longing reached such a desperate state?

The person on the sofa saw her too. The indifference in his eyes quickly vanished, replaced by overwhelming tenderness. He stood up from the sofa and walked briskly toward her, getting closer and closer until she could see herself in his sparkling eyes, along with the entire world.

“Sweetheart, if you don’t co back soon, I’ll be destroyed by the sugar-coated shells of capitalism. Look at how enthusiastic your rivals are. I only waited for you in the lobby for a few hours, yet I’m already covered in business cards and phone numbers!”

Gu Xu mumbled as he extended his hand to embrace Huo Sining, tilting his head onto her shoulder and acting coy, all while showing her the business cards stuck to his coat.

Looking down, Huo Sining imdiately found herself speechless, her mouth twitching uncontrollably.

Indeed, at least seven or eight business cards and notes were plastered all over this fellow, bearing various titles of female professionals, along with phone numbers, nas, and even room numbers. So were so bold as to leave lip marks, leaving Huo Sining at a loss for words.

She beca quietly vigilant, realizing how easily attractions surrounded this man. So many won had already approached voluntarily in such a short ti—it was outrageous, lacking fidelity and discretion. But—hmm—

While she was internally chastising him, she suddenly found the man before her lowered his head and captured her lips fiercely and wildly. He invaded her territory, leaving no room for resistance or thought.

This kiss left Huo Sining’s already blurred mind even more befuddled.

The lancholy and panic, tension, and fear she harbored about the future all seed to vanish into thin air because of this kiss.

To hell with it, what does it matter who ages before whom or the tricks played by fate? For now, at least Mr. Gu and she were still well. Love was and always would be love. How could they let the uncertainties of the future cause them to waver?
