Chapter 2017: Chapter 2017: Protective Suit Outside the Window

Upon hearing this, everyone felt as uncomfortable as swallowing a fly. Considering the hole in the window and the things that had squird outside the train car earlier, if that was an Alien, it ant that the Alien’s size could change. This not only implies that an Alien can be large or small, but also suggests that even dismbering it might not kill it, and it might possess extrely high reproductive capabilities, able to rapidly grow into a complete form in a short ti.

"These are just speculations," White Suit said blandly. "We haven’t even seen what the Alien looks like, imagining how difficult it might be to deal with doesn’t benefit our current situation at all."

"What do you an by that?" Small Flat Head seed to have received his signal and asked.

"Aren’t there ready-made boxes?" White Suit gestured with a turn of his hand to the three boxes still placed in the second car. "Whether it’s a rapidly reproducing Alien or so potion to attract Aliens, why not just open it and see?"

Previously, the box hadn’t been opened due to the possibility of causing more severe consequences. Having gone through two murder incidents, the group found that even if there might be Aliens capable of interfering with human ntal states, their numbers or activity range were very limited. At least they couldn’t attack everyone at the sa ti, only being able to kill one or two people at a ti, posing no threat to them in the short term. So, rather than wasting ti, they should try to understand the situation better while they still can.

"What ti is it now?" Xu Huo suddenly asked.

"It’s ti for the lights to co on," Red Scarf answered, "but given the current situation, the lights might not automatically turn on inside the car. The personnel checking the rear cars made sure all the lights were turned off before leaving."

And so, everyone’s attention diverted back to the boxes.

Xu Huo also agreed with opening a box to check the situation, but he wasn’t the initiator, only observing from behind the others.

With too many people, it wasn’t possible for everyone to squeeze into the second car, so Red Scarf and Tie Man entered the second car with White Suit. Xu Huo and the rest, including the fortune-telling female player, initially thought of going to the third car, but when Xu Huo reached the fourth car, he began bleeding from the nose, and his head throbbed painfully as he sat against the chair, barely glancing at the glass-encased boxes in the front car.

"Young man, you seem to be in a bad state. Nosebleed isn’t a good sign; are you sick in the head or poisoned?" A player who appeared to be in his sixties sized up his condition, speculating after a mont, "Could it be that you’re experiencing aftereffects at such a young age?"

"It shouldn’t be aftereffects." Xu Huo cleaned the blood from his face and took another look forward. This distance did not affect vision; the box was opened, but to everyone’s disappointnt, there was nothing inside. The glass box was taken out by a player, equipped with a detector, yet the instrunt failed to deliver the answers they sought, remaining silent throughout.

"There can’t really be nothing inside, right? Even if it held poison, there should at least be so traces left." Soone remarked.

"Was the box opened before?" White Suit turned to ask.

Several people cast their eyes on Xu Huo.

"We realized sothing was wrong after the box was opened," the fortune-telling female player answered on behalf, "grabbed it and closed the box, never opened it since, so we don’t know whether there was anything in it or whether it had already escaped."

"I guess it might contain a special formulation to attract Aliens." Small Flat Head said, "The box opened; mission complete, and those boarding could leave without concern."

"Then we have no clues left?" Blonde Hair said, "Can we gather anything more from the box? Since there’s nothing inside, let’s take a closer look."

"I’d rather not." White Suit replied cautiously, "If there’s no trickery on the box, taking it out is pointless. If there is, it’s likely beyond our perception and current instrunt capabilities, removing it might cause trouble. Simply opening the box was ant to determine if there was an Alien inside, and that goal has been achieved."

No need to waste further ti on the box.

So agreed, so disagreed; those disagreeing had more faith in their judgnt and own props.

"Why argue?" The elder sitting next to Xu Huo remarked disinterestedly, "Argue all you want, those destined to die will still die; if fate hasn’t called, even a dinsional storm couldn’t claim you. How can anyone say for sure? It’s all fate."

"If everyone believes in fate, why struggle in the instance? If the undood won’t die, shouldn’t you stand immobile even if soone tries to kill you?" The woman with High Ponytail quipped disdainfully.

The elder grinned calmly, "Before I beca a player, I was diagnosed with a terminal illness, with the hospital saying I only had a month left. Doctors, family, and friends told

to go ho and wait for death. But here’s what happened: I suddenly evolved, not only recovered but ended up living better and longer than my relatives and friends. That’s fate."

"I tried hard to heal when I was ill—that’s human effort; if it couldn’t be cured, I accepted fate."

"Standing still while being killed is foolish, even if heaven grants you a hundred lives, they wouldn’t suffice."

"Living till now in the ga, boarding this train safely, is exerting human effort; with the train stuck on the track leaving you with no solutions, you listen to fate."

"Now is the ti to listen to fate."

Not entirely dismissive, High Ponytail questioned further, "How do you know previous actions were exhaustive in human effort?"

"Are you a Super Evolutionary with ntal Powers? A specialist in Alien studies? Or an expert in potion experintations? Or perhaps an Artifact Maker?" The elder asked a series of questions.

"None of the above," High Ponytail denied openly.

The elder smiled faintly, "Then all you can do is listen to fate."

For over half the players on the train, they had no asures to change their circumstances. The elder’s words, while seeming to signify helplessness, also advised composure.

"Sure enough, people get more preachy with age." High Ponytail shifted the topic, "But you indeed had so luck, almost dying yet becoming a player."

The elder nodded, fully agreeing with her statent, then turned to Xu Huo, who stood up, and said, "Why bother?"

Xu Huo smiled, "I’m not at the point of listening to fate yet."

He didn’t move forward, but instead returned to the seventh car, found a spot by the window to sit down. The young player blocking the window was still squatting there, and the veterinarian beside him appeared to be discussing shift-changing.

Xu Huo went over, removed a piece of the tal plate covering the window, and glanced at the protective suit that had been tossed out earlier.

"What are you looking at?" the veterinarian asked, unable to resist, "Alien appeared?"

"No." Xu Huo closed the tal plate; the protective suit showed slight traces of movent, with no water marks but obviously visited by an Alien. Apparently, the Alien is not randomly choosing targets to attack, but follows a certain pattern.
