Chapter 1714: Chapter 1714: Network of Connections

According to public data, Master Soran’s mother passed away after she got married. The couple did not live with the mother, but they visited her frequently, especially during the last stage of Soran’s mother’s life. Soran was always by her side, which did not appear to be without emotion. This behavior was already considered very filial in Zone 019.

Zone 019 had specific survey data targeting cultural traditions and emotional attachnts within the district. Because lifespans were extended and having children beca convenient, plus the upbringing and education of children were almost entirely governnt-responsible, familial ties were not as close as in other zones.

The widespread use of holographic projections enabled people living in different places to et face-to-face, and so substitute robots could even simulate human warmth and behaviors. Even if one needed to et face-to-face, vehicles made it convenient. In other words, machines largely replaced direct human interactions, and Zone 019’s people did not insist on it much. Thus, Soran’s behavior was considered exceptional.

“Little Soran’s mother was a selfish woman,” the old lady said, “After her husband died unexpectedly, she moved here with little Soran. She was consud by the pain of losing her husband and often neglected little Soran. Even when little Soran could barely walk she would co out to buy food by herself, sotis even taking care of her.”

“When little Soran grew a bit older, that woman was taken away by another man and only returned occasionally to see her.”

“If she could have shown a good example to her child after remarrying, I wouldn’t have said anything. However, after remarrying she couldn’t forget her deceased husband, even refusing to take the Evolution Potion, completely disregarding little Soran, and died early, leaving Soran without both a father and mother.”

“She should either live well and take care of her child, living her own life, or just die with her husband when he passed away. Living like a walking corpse only causes pain to others!”

“People as resolute and understanding as you are always in the minority,” Xu Huo said, “You and Master Soran belong to the sa kind, whereas Master Soran’s mother is another kind.”

The old lady looked down on Soran’s mother, believing that Soran had no need to care for her. She also felt that Soran had little affection for her mother.

Xu Huo did not rebut her statent. The specific situation was hard to ascertain now. He could only piece together a real image of Soran’s childhood and teenage years from these neighbors’ scraps of words.

However, the old lady suddenly held his hand, “Not everyone who is born is destined to be close to their parents. If parents do not treat their children well, the children should not place too much hope in them. One can only bear their own lives; placing all hope on others, even parents, will not lead to a good life.”

Xu Huo smiled, holding her hand, “I am currently very satisfied with my relationship with my parents.”

“That’s good, that’s good.” The old lady leaned back in her chair, put on glasses from beside her, “Who did you just say ca to Tingting Flower Town?”

Xu Huo handed her the nas he had found on the Collection of Information Terminal. The old lady’s mory was still good; with nas and photos, she could almost say one or two things about each person.

Master Soran liked to run and play around with little companions endlessly in her childhood. Not many children of the sa age were around; only a few lived permanently in Tingting Flower Town, while others stayed for a while with their elders.

The four people the old lady ntioned were considered good friends with Soran. Others either did not interact for long or had less interaction with Soran due to personality issues.

Interactions with people who only ca to the town during their teenage years were relatively less because by then the children were older and not as easy to befriend as when they were younger.

“There were kids who courted little Soran.” The old lady nad a few people, “But little Soran particularly disliked them and didn’t play with them.”

“These two even had a fight.” Among the two people the old lady pointed out, one was Soran’s companion since childhood and was the sa age as Soran.

Among Soran’s childhood friends, two were girls. Xu Huo also inquired about their family relations.

“The parents of the two little girls both died in mining collapses. They ca to rely on their grandparents, and only after growing up were taken by relatives to continue their studies.”

“One of Laiguang and Xixi’s parents was injured in an accident and needed long-term hospitalization, and their parents sent them to Tingting Flower Town because they couldn’t care for them.”

“People who could play with Master Soran probably had good temperants too,” Xu Huo said. These four died too early, and with little information available, while they stayed in Tingting Flower Town they ran in and out with Soran.

The old lady was a kind elder, nodded, “The little girls were bold like little Soran, daring to sneak into the hills to get bird eggs without robotic accompanint. The two boys were very quiet, particularly Laiguang, who could already make up stories when little Soran and the others played crazily, and the stories he wrote were well-ford. The children played house gas together.”

She paused here and deliberately said to Xu Huo, “There was no ‘Ember’ in the stories they played.”

Xu Huo couldn’t help but laugh, “You tell, I’m listening.”

The old lady then recounted so of the stories Laiguang wrote, so featuring those who died in mining accidents as protagonists, talking about happy families and praising their spirits, imagining that they went on to live in better places after death, considering other higher Wormhole Points as the destination of their souls. Later stories focused more on a few small companions, with Soran playing a significant role.

“Laiguang really liked Master Soran.” Xu Huo interjected.

“Many liked little Soran,” the old lady didn’t see this as romantic affection, rather an admiration for the innate charm of the excellent.

Xu Huo thought for a mont, then asked, “If Master Soran’s mother didn’t fulfill her responsibilities, who took care of her when she was little?”

Compassion for the young is human nature, especially for a likable child.

“She went to neighboring hos often. Previously, a blind woman lived near her house, ca to recuperate due to poor health, and didn’t move away after she recovered. She often bought food and toys for little Soran and the town’s children, coaxing them to call her grandma,” the old lady sighed here, “It was heard her family all died unexpectedly. She survived only with great difficulty, losing one eye and a leg.”

“Was it another mining accident?” Xu Huo raised an eyebrow.

“She was unwilling to say much, but probably not,” the old lady carefully thought, “I saw governnt staff co to replace her prosthetic limb, generally people involved in mining accidents are cared for by the welfare bureau, which operates independently of governnt institutions.”
