1157: Chapter 1057: Attack on the Safe Zone
Xu Huo’s disappearance from the safe zone was imdiately reported to the Special Defense Departnt Headquarters, but right now, Minister Fan was so overwheld with the erging evidence online that he couldn’t spare any additional manpower to trace Xu Huo’s whereabouts.
“Since he hasn’t made contact with the outside world from yesterday until now, there is no space for his operation in this matter, let him be for the ti being…”
During the conversation, the headquarters’ phone never stopped ringing.
As soon as one call was ended, the assistant ca over with another communication device.
Minister Fan, with a splitting headache, said directly: “Hang up anyone who calls to inquire about the situation, starting now, except for necessary action contacts, refuse all other calls!”
The night of the first day of the lunar new year was destined to be another sleepless night, not only were people from the Special Defense Departnt in action, but those who had been captured or were about to be captured were also active, so were frantically destroying evidence, so were simply fleeing, while so were hoping for guidance from Jing City—apart from minor disturbances, those who could directly use the Special Defense Departnt laboratories to screen Evolvers must possess so deeply ingrained forces.
These people had already extended their reach into the departnt during the massive construction and requisition of facilities.
These people aren’t the sort who the Special Defense Departnt could simply arrest on a whim, including the group leaders who t the previous day.
Who knows who they have behind them, or who they might be contacting in secret?
But the Special Defense Departnt couldn’t afford to offend everyone at once, nor could it possibly manage to.
Similarly, there were Players around these people, and even if just for the sake of not ending in total chaos, the leaks that needed to be leaked were still leaked.
Besides, this matter wasn’t solely the concern of the Special Defense Departnt anymore.
On the surface, the Special Defense Departnt represents the nation’s Player deploynts, but in reality, they do not have control over the entire roster of Players.
That is to say, the identity information, mission execution, and whereabouts of a portion of the Players are kept secret, and these people, when not completing instances, might be scattered in different crucial safe zones, or important national military and scientific research bases.
The ordinary people who could stay in these places often had extraordinary identities and were not the types to easily co out, especially under such unstable circumstances.
Xu Huo obtained a list with six people in the sa safe zone.
This safe zone was outside of Jing City, but not on the maps distributed by the Special Defense Departnt; it also had the highest security level.
Compared to so of the individuals later in the list, Nie Xuan gave only a vague address regarding their information.
This is the address of the safe zone; there is no thod to get inside.
This wasn’t surprising, even before entering the ga, so secret places would set up instrunts for checks.
Now that a large number of people in Zone 014 have started to beco Players, the things brought back from the ga would only be more advanced.
Let alone sneaking in covertly, even approaching a bit closer might get identified by the instrunts.
After all, even with the help of a Prop or Super Evolution Power, one cannot vanish into thin air—there’s always a way to detect them.
Additionally, after witnessing the capabilities of Players, these places even sealed their grounds with tal.
Xu Huo hitched a ride with a Special Defense Departnt vehicle out of the city, disembarked near the destination, and directly used a Prop to move to just outside the secret safe zone.
Standing at a distance, the entrance to the secret safe zone is a tunnel, barricades set up outside it.
Two hundred ters in is where the true entrance lies, but at this mont, the safe zone was far from tranquil, the overlapping chaos of human voices and engine roars, amidst urgent commands, armored vehicles burst out of the tunnel, speeding away!
Simultaneously, gunshots inside the tunnel moved outward, with the sound of bullets hitting tal growing more frequent.
Shortly after, another armored vehicle recklessly erged from the tunnel, making a sharp turn that flipped the last vehicle of the convoy!
A multitude of military personnel poured out of the tunnel, so to rescue, so to pursue.
An intense ard chase ensued on the mountain roads, with Players darting in and out between the vehicles, trying to take down the armored vehicle driven by an unknown person stuck in the middle.
But evidently, the person inside was also a Player, as military Players tried and failed to destroy the vehicle using Props.
They were instead held back by the Player in the vehicle employing their Characteristics, falling behind for a ti.
“There were supposed to be nine people, now there are two missing!” A Player tracking from the air reported to the ground, but in the next second, was shot through the throat by an unseen bullet, his body heavily crashing in front of the convoy!
The person driving in front reflexively dodged the body, but almost flipped the vehicle due to the high speed.
Thanks to subli driving skills, the car barely steadied itself, only for the second car to fail to brake in ti, crashing into it!
The two vehicles collided with the roadside rocks, both the middle and front of the cars deford, unable to move any further.
However, this cleared the way for the cars behind, as the third vehicle didn’t pause before charging through, followed by the rest.
Only a few Players and military personnel at the rear lingered for the rescue.
Aside from the driver and security personnel, the only ones rescued from the vehicle were three won and five children.
Unfortunately, one of the won and two children died on the spot, and the others suffered varying degrees of injury.
No sooner had they lifted the people out for treatnt than two military personnel silently fell to the ground beside them.
“There’s soone here!” The four remaining Players quickly went on alert, but the assailant’s aim was not to kill.
With a loud “boom,” a large amount of rocks rolled down from above.
“Run!
Hurry!” The site of the crash bore the brunt of the impact; while rescuing the injured, the Players urged the others to run to the side.
However, the Player causing the avalanche was not intending to let them go, killing one Player with the sa tactic.
The child being held by that Player was passed to another Player’s arms—in choosing between rescue and self-preservation, these people chose the forr.
The rumbling sound of rolling boulders was right beside them.
The three Players hadn’t yet escaped the range of the rockslide when they felt a shadow looming overhead.
They didn’t look up, instead quickening their pace!
Surrounding rocks crashed down, the dust and debris kicked up almost covering the entire route.
Just when they were about to be buried by the boulders, the three Players and the military personnel suddenly found themselves instantly relocated a hundred ters away!
“What just happened?” They maintained their running posture, puzzled as to how they had suddenly escaped the rockslide.
“Soone must have helped!” The three Players stayed calm, promptly requesting that the group proceed on foot, not dwelling on how they survived.
Watching them run off into the distance, Xu Huo, who had landed in the forest, turned his head to look at the white-haired man twenty ters away.
The white-haired man appeared very nervous, raised his hand to beckon the two companions hidden not far away, and the three of them surrounded Xu Huo.
Xu Huo stared at the white-haired man, “Your face has appeared on the Special Defense Departnt’s wanted list.”
