New Event: Global Dungeons Daily Releases
No one knew what was going on in Yong'an City.
Chen Xingzhen looked out over the distant horizon, lost in thought.
A few days ago, Tian Lei and the others said that the vibe in Yong'an City was pretty tense. The city had already fallen under the control of the Xie and Shi families, leaving them unable to uncover the full details.
But based on what they had seen, the two big clans were totally surrounded by Xie and Shi's forces.
It looks like the Shen and Gan families are going to have to give up their hold on things pretty soon.
And this all happened in just a few days. It was clear that the Xie and Shi families were way stronger than he thought.
Hopefully, the two clans can hold out a bit longer…
…
CLANG!
In the quiet of an old ruin, the sound of stones falling echoed softly.
PAK!
As a rock the size of a fist rolled down from the rubble above, a small figure appeared from the shadows.
It was just a regular gray mouse, about the size of a human palm. As it slowly crawled out from under the rubble, it looked like it was relieved.
After climbing over a big stone, the gray mouse stood up straight on the rock, using its hind legs to help.
If I'm rembering right, a group of people had found this place recently.
Maybe this was its mont to make a coback... The mouse's eyes went deep, thinking hard, and the corners of its mouth lifted a bit on their own.
But when the mouse finally stood tall and took in the scene before it, that depth in its gaze quickly vanished. Its empty eyes showed how confused it was.
"Where are all the Burial Dust Flowers it took so long to cultivate?
"Where's the Guanyin Soil? It took years for it to get here, and it's not in the best shape.
"Where are all the Longevity Coffins buried here? Why are several missing?"
As the gray mouse looked out at the empty space in front of it, it let out a sharp, silent roar:
"Beasts!
"You even stripped away the floor tiles!"
Looking at the bare walls, which had long since been stripped of their stone surfaces, the mouse's eyes turned blood-red, as though endless fury was flowing through them.
After a long pause, the gray mouse finally collected itself. The blood-red hue faded from its gaze, replaced once more by a deep, unfathomable look.
The mouse closed its eyes real quick. From under the ruins, lots of strands of red blood started to rise.
The blood-qi quickly ford a projection.
In that projection, the whole sequence played out right in front of the mouse's eyes. It started with Chen Tianyu and his crew stepping into the place, then going through the ruins, digging deeper, and finally, that intense battle between Chen Tianyu and the skeletal figure.
The gray mouse was pretty annoyed when it saw the group get chased away by the skeleton.
"How hateful, dead yet still restless!"
But soon, it was looking sharp again.
It was clear that these people would return at so point. After all, this place still had so many treasures!
In the dark, the gray mouse looked up at the closed entrance of the ruins. It tilted its head slightly, and its weak body fell to the ground, completely still.
…
“Clan Leader, the clansn are all set!”
Yong'an City, Gan Family.
Gan Zongjin nodded firmly at the determined looks on his clansn's faces.
"Good. Gather all the clansn in the ancestral hall!"
As soon as the order was given, the ancestral hall quickly filled with people.
But now, those clansn looked pale, their clothes in shreds, and they all looked weak and tired.
Even he, the head of the family, was no exception.
The Shi family had been encircling them for days, but hadn't made a move. Still, the clan was under a lot of pressure to survive. They were having a hard ti sleeping, and they were worried about an attack from the Shi family.
So, how could the clansn possibly rest in peace?
Today was the mont for the clan to change its fate. They're using their ancestral totem to break free from Yong'an City. As long as the majority of their bloodline could be preserved, the Gan family would surely rise again.
Gan Zongjin looked at the center of the ancestral hall, where a multicolored vine stretched just ten feet. He looked confident.
This was the Gan family's spiritual relic—their totem!
The gathered clansn looked at the vine with respect, their eyes showing it.
When everyone was there, Gan Zongjin looked around and said, without any emotion in his voice:
"Gan Hongyi, Gan Yu, Gan Hongchao... step forward!"
As Gan Zongjin called out nas, several clansn stepped forward from the crowd.
Their gazes were fixed resolutely, and in their hearts, they knew their fate: they would beco sacrifices to the family totem, offering their final strength for the clan's survival.
The patriarch had spoken of this long ago, and they had long since prepared themselves.
Two younger clansn, however, showed a hint of fear in their otherwise resolute eyes when their nas were ntioned.
The rest of the clan stood behind them. There was no retreat, no escape. They steeled themselves and stepped forward.
Gan Zongjin watched those who had co forth. His expression grew solemn as he declared:
"Your nas will be engraved within the ancestral hall of our family, rembered in the hearts of your clansn, and honored by future generations in worship!"
Those who had stepped forward heard these words, and their eyes shone brightly. The Gan family was not a small clan of re dozens or hundreds. The highest honor a clansman could attain was to have one's na enshrined in the ancestral hall after death.
The clansn responded in unison:
"Everything is for the family!"
"Mm, go now."
Gan Zongjin's face brightened slightly as he addressed those before him.
At his words, two of the older clansn stepped forward without hesitation, walking resolutely toward the vine at the center of the ancestral hall.
As they approached, the multicolored vine stirred. Several new tendrils extended outward, slowly wrapping around the two who had co forth.
The clansn's eyes shone brightly. They did not resist; they spread their arms wide, hearts already prepared for what was to co.
When the new tendrils fully enveloped their bodies, two muffled cries of pain quickly echoed from within the vine.
Their spirits were fearless, but the agony coursing through their flesh forced them into an uncontrollable struggle.
It is clear that such a struggle was futile. Amid their cries, their figures gradually shrank, and the once-harsh screams diminished bit by bit until they faded into silence.
There was no question: to beco a sacrifice for the family totem ant that not even their bones would remain.
Behind them, the gathered clansn clenched their jaws tightly. They had long since resolved to give their lives, but the sight before them still stirred a faint ripple of emotion in their hearts.
Everything was for the family.
Gan Zongjin's eyes showed clear sorrow on his face. There was no other way: he had to watch his clansn beco offerings to the totem. As the patriarch, he knew this was the clan's final option.
"Continue."
Gan Zongjin looked at the next few clansn and spoke confidently.
Two more clansn stepped forward without hesitation, heading toward the family totem.
But before they could draw near, a terrified cry rang out from behind them:
"I don't want to! I refuse to be a sacrifice!"
"Will offering ourselves truly allow the clan to escape this crisis?"
"We will fight our way out now. There's still a chance!"
"Clan brothers? Clan uncles? Patriarch? What do you say?"
