Chapter 338: Chapter 216: So What Is the Answer After All?
After the Arbor Day team-building event, Tianba Studio returned to its normal working state.
Chen Ba also gathered the developnt team to discuss and officially established the developnt plan for the new ga "Ancestor Tree."
The new ga is tentatively set as an adventure challenge.
Since this ga is the studio’s first buyout-type single-player ga of the year, Chen Ba is very focused on it. He not only personally wrote the ga proposal but even drew a prototype image of the protagonist, Tree Treasure.
Tree Treasure is a code na!
He’s a primitive man dressed in animal skins with his face covered in various mineral paints.
Exactly!
The protagonist of "Ancestor Tree" is set to be a primitive man.
But this is just the early image...
After Tree Treasure dies over 100 tis and plants 100 Ancestor Trees in the ga, his clothing and attire will evolve to the tribal era.
tis leads to the feudal era, 500 tis is the steam era, 700 tis there’s not much difference from modern humans, and 1000 tis directly evolves to the interstellar era.
It actually uses the transformation of the protagonist Tree Treasure’s image to reveal the passage of ti in the ga, while also reminding players of how long it’s been since their first adventure...
Tree Treasure lives in a dense forest, and one day he has a sudden idea to climb the tallest tree in the forest and sees a blue hue in the distance.
From that mont on, leaving the forest to see what the outside world is like and seeing what lies at the end of the world beca the thing Tree Treasure most wanted to do.
So he set off on his journey.
This is the start of the story and the beginning of the journey...
Chen Ba adopted Lu’s suggestion to make "Ancestor Tree" a complete Roguelike ga.
In other words, in the ga, apart from the first and last levels where the map is fixed, every level in between is completely random.
Why are the maps for the first and last levels unchanged?
"Because that’s the answer!"
"Tree Treasure died on his journey, unable to reach the end of the world and see the scenery he wished for. But his son, his grandson, kept going, continuing his journey..."
Chen Ba explained: "Until so unknown generation of Tree Treasure’s descendants finally reached the end, returning to that familiar forest, only then did they understand what the ancestors had been seeking all their lives."
"So what is the answer?"
Lu pressed for answers: "Starting from the forest and finally returning to the forest, did Tree Treasure’s family prove that Earth is round with their lives?"
Chen Ba: "..."
Damn, the Earth is round.
Seems like this isn’t Tree Treasure, this is Columbus? Obviously, what they were seeking had nothing to do with whether the Earth is round!
"Can the riddle-teller just die?"
Seeing Ba say nothing, making him guess, Lu said with frustration: "I hate solving riddles the most, can’t these things just be said openly?"
"Hahaha!"
Luo Ji laughed beside him, seeing Lu looking at him unfriendly, Old Luo quickly stifled his laughter and explained: "Isn’t the answer quite obvious already? Look at this picture..."
Lu leaned in closer.
The picture showed the primitive Tree Treasure and the Tree Treasure in sci-fi armor, both appearing in the sa forest.
Except, one is leaving the forest, and the other is returning to the forest.
"The question Tree Treasure wants to explore is the classic philosophical three questions: Who am I, where do I co from, and where am I going?"
Old Luo explained: "And in the ga, it’s not answered directly, it just tells you that in the end, you will still return to that forest."
"Who am I? Where do I co from? Where am I going?"
These three questions almost fried Lu’s brain. He was used to single-core thinking, and this was his first ti trying multi-core processing, especially with such profound questions.
The answer is definitely not forthcoming.
"Now you know why President Chen plays the riddler?"
Old Luo quipped: "Questions like this, of course, can’t have a clear answer. It must allow players to think and realize it themselves during the ga."
Whatever you realize, that is what it is.
As for whether the answer you co up with is what Tree Treasure longed for, if you think it’s right, then it’s right, if you think it is, then it is!
"Actually, you’re wrong..."
While sipping water, Chen Ba couldn’t help but shake his head as he heard Old Luo’s words: "I do let players think and realize during the ga, but the answer Tree Treasure is seeking is different from the one players are seeking."
In the final level of the ga, there are no traps or monsters, only rows of neatly arranged Ancestor Trees lining the road, leading to that forest.
Whether the players have found the answer by the ti they reach there is unknown, but the protagonist Tree Treasure in the ga has definitely found the answer.
"So what is the answer?"
Lu asked again: "Oh, I’m so annoyed, Ba, can’t you just say it straight, why hide it so deeply?"
"Do you want to know the answer?"
"Yes, yes!"
Seeing Lu nodding insistently, Chen Ba chuckled and said, "Then go ask Tree Treasure, why ask ?"
Lu: "..."
I’m asking you, you big-headed ghost!
Tree Treasure can’t talk, where am I supposed to ask him? Damn riddler! People like that should be executed on the spot like the divisive Chapter dogs were in the marketplace!
"Hahaha..."
After teasing Lu, Chen Ba put away his smile and said, "Alright, your brain isn’t suited for loading too much philosophical knowledge, otherwise it’ll overload like a pig’s brain."
"You don’t need to worry about the plot this ti, just focus on designing the ga levels and the maps and monster traps."
