Chapter 96: Chapter 96: Humanity’s Evolutionary Branches
In the villa next door, Mo Chengyu’s face was even paler than before.
Lying on the small bed by the window, her complexion grew almost translucent—a severe reaction to completely depleting her spiritual power.
At this mont, her face pale, she was pressed against the window, craning her neck to look at the house next door.
The Left and Right Guardians stood by her side, looking utterly exasperated.
The Left Protector asked, "What’s the matter?"
Mo Chengyu said, "Can’t you two sll that?"
"We can. So what?"
"..."
"I want to eat what they’re having next door," Mo Chengyu said, sounding rather pitiful.
The Left Protector’s brow furrowed. "Minister Mo, you’ve depleted your spiritual power. You need to replenish it with Nourishing Liquid, not consu other foods."
The Right Protector chid in, "If you really must eat, we can ask the young lady next door to make you sothing delicious once you’ve recovered. How does that sound?"
"Honestly, I think eating so of the food from next door would do
more good than drinking that Nourishing Liquid. I bet I’d feel completely refreshed and my spirits would lift! This Nourishing Liquid just gives
a headache."
"That’s probably just your imagination," the Left Protector said coldly. "The pleasure you get from delicious food is temporary. The doctor was clear: you are not to ingest any other complex energies until your spiritual power has recovered."
"..."
"I’m going to die, then."
’Heal just by drinking this Nourishing Liquid?!’
She wailed so loudly that every guard in the building could hear her, but none of them wavered. The Right Protector even twisted the knife, adding, "Minister, if you knew how difficult it is to recover spiritual power, then you shouldn’t have been secretly working on that cha a few days ago."
"You need quiet rest."
"...My hands were just itching for it," Mo Chengyu said sheepishly. "Alright, alright, let’s drop it. Move on. Now, bring
my encrypted terminal."
"And what do you plan to do with it?" the Left Protector asked. "Ordering takeout is absolutely forbidden."
"...What are you thinking about?" Mo Chengyu slapped the bed, but the movent was too forceful. She choked and broke into a coughing fit, an unnatural flush rising at the corners of her eyes. The Left Protector rushed to her side to support her. "Minister Mo!"
"COUGH, COUGH, COUGH." She patted her chest as she coughed. "I’m going to die. I’m so weak."
"Hurry up and give
the terminal! I need to call for reinforcents!"
...
It was a well-known fact that even to this day, spiritual power damage was one of the most difficult afflictions to cure in the Federation.
It was much like how humans, thousands of years ago, had yet to grasp the mysteries of the brain.
Thousands of years later, technology had progressed by leaps and bounds. Humanity had explored the secrets of the brain, giving rise to new races and disciplines. However, the new Genes that erged were not yet stable. This newfound power ca with nurous flaws.
In the interstellar era, as a child was born and grew, they would eventually reach a fork in the road of life where they could beco one of "three types of people."
The first were those with awakened Genes. They would awaken the latent Beast Gene hidden deep within their bodies, developing beast-like characteristics and gaining the animal’s power, amplified a hundredfold. Most of those who awakened the Genes of ferocious beasts entered the Federal Military Academy. From there, they would either fight on the battlefields against the Insect Race, maintain public order on various planets, or join the ranks of rcenary Corps.
The second were those who underwent a Spiritual Awakening. Anyone could potentially have a Spiritual Awakening; even those who had awakened their Beast Gene could do so. People with high spiritual power were intelligent, wise, and possessed talent far beyond the ordinary. They could pilot cha, but most individuals with high spiritual power were physically frail, which created a paradox.
