Chapter 44: Chapter 44: I’m from Black Mountain Stronghold

Wang Yi’s spirits rose.

’The third wave of the void invasion is finally coming!’

Wang Yi imdiately summoned Man Datou and the others. He asked them about the Kawu Beast, but this ti, no one knew what it was.

Since the Kawu Beast was an unknown, Wang Yi couldn’t afford to be careless. Even with the Guardian Beast Gegeda and the super-assassin Qin Mo in Eggshell Village, he still ordered the Civilian Militia to make torches, preparing for the worst.

At that very mont, north of Eggshell Village, a group of n was advancing under the cover of night, already approaching Chaotic Stone Slope.

This was a scouting party sent by the Black Mountain Stronghold, a total of twenty n. The leader was a tall, thin man nad Lin Yuanshan, who went by the nickna "Wolf of the Forest."

"Damn it, what powerful faction could possibly be in this godforsaken backwater? How could the Second-in-Command have been killed here? I have no idea what the Big Boss was thinking, actually believing the bullshit from those two dung-haulers..."

Wolf of the Forest muttered to himself and stopped. He looked up, and in the distance, he could see the flickering lights of Eggshell Village.

"Alright, boys, looks like there’s a village up ahead. We’ll crash there for the night! You’re all veterans, so I don’t need to tell you what to do, right?"

Lin Yuanshan let out a wicked laugh. Even though he’d just said he didn’t need to teach them, he continued, "We’ll storm in and announce the na of our Black Mountain Stronghold! Kill a few of ’em to show ’em who’s boss, then grab so pretty girls for a taste of the local flavor!"

"Alright!"

"It’s an honor for the hicks in this shithole to serve us fine n of the Black Mountain Stronghold!"

"Let’s just hope there’s so ’local flavor’ to be had!"

"Hurry up and let’s get in there. I’m tired and just want a good night’s rest..."

The n laughed and joked as they followed the firelight, drawing ever closer to Eggshell Village. It was only when they were close enough to make out the silhouettes of the Eggshell Houses that they felt sothing was off and began to observe their surroundings with caution.

anwhile, in front of Eggshell Castle, pine branches CRACKLED and spat in the fire. The flas leaped, but they did little to push back the oppressive darkness.

Wang Yi was already in the driver’s seat of the Crossbow Machine Carriage. ’Night combat again,’ he muttered. ’The bonfires just don’t give off enough light. I can’t see into the distance. It would be great if I could install so searchlights or streetlights.’

Suddenly, the Territory Guardian Beast, Gegeda, erged from its Eggshell House. It let out a cluck, and its fifteen Combat Chickens scurried out, rapidly falling into formation. Within ten seconds, they had assembled before Gegeda.

"CLUCK, CLUCK, CLUCK..."

Gegeda clucked repeatedly, as if dressing them down, and the Combat Chickens periodically responded in unison.

’Huh? What’s going on?’

Wang Yi watched with curiosity as Gegeda led its flock of Combat Chickens and marched straight toward the rear of Eggshell Castle.

’It’s still early. The spatial rift hasn’t even appeared yet, so the monsters can’t be here, right? What’s up with Gegeda? It usually sleeps straight through till morning!’

Wang Yi imdiately realized sothing was up. He narrowed his eyes and beckoned. The quiet and reserved Qin Mo imdiately ca to his side, bowed, and said, "Master."

"Old Mo, go and see what’s happening!"

"Yes!"

Qin Mo bowed and withdrew. He was small and thin and walked without a sound. His figure seed to lt into the night, and he quickly disappeared from sight.

anwhile, at the rear of Eggshell Castle, Lin Yuanshan and his n were creeping along, having already slipped into Wang Yi’s territory.

They stared in amazent at the Eggshell Houses, Watchtowers, and other structures, completely baffled.

"Alright, boys, this village is a little weird. Stay sharp. We don’t want to get screwed over on an easy job!"

Lin Yuanshan turned back to speak, only to see his n staring upward, their mouths hanging open in astonishnt as they slowly backed away.

"Huh? What are you backing away from?"

Lin Yuanshan was confused.

"Lord Wolf, there’s... there’s a monster!"

"Lord Wolf, turn around, quick!"

"That’s a huge chicken!"

"What’s so scary about a chicken! Holy shit, what is that!"

The group of Mountain Bandits cried out in alarm, then frantically retreated, as if fleeing for their lives.

Lin Yuanshan was horrified. He whirled around and saw the source of their terror. A giant, plump chicken over six ters tall stood before him, cocking its head as it sized him up.

"Son of a bitch, it’s a monster!"

Lin Yuanshan yelled and tried to run, but his legs were trembling so badly they wouldn’t obey him, and he couldn’t move fast.

"CLUCK!"

"CLUCK!

"CLUCK..."

A series of clucks rang out. Seeing the stranger before it and judging him to be an enemy, the Territory Guardian Beast, Gegeda, spread its wings and gave a mighty flap, generating a furious gale.

With a cry of alarm, Lin Yuanshan felt a force like a rushing flood slam into him. The wind knocked him off his feet, and he collapsed onto his butt.

"CLUCK!" Gegeda’s high-pitched cry was a clear warning.

Lin Yuanshan, scared out of his wits, scrambled backward on his hands and knees.

Suddenly, a hand rested on his shoulder. The hair on the back of Lin Yuanshan’s neck stood on end. He whipped around to see a simple-looking old man standing beside him, who had appeared out of nowhere.

"Where the hell did you pop out from, old man? Get the hell away from !"

Lin Yuanshan roared, violently shaking off the old man’s hand. There was a monster behind him that could summon a gale with a single flap of its wings! He had no ti to care who this old man was. The only thing that mattered was running for his life.

After scrambling several dozen ters away, Lin Yuanshan glanced back. The monster wasn’t pursuing him, and the old man hadn’t moved from his spot.

"Damn you!" Lin Yuanshan spat. He pointed his saber at the eerie old man and bellowed, "Trying to spook

with this mumbo-jumbo, are you? I’m from the Black Mountain Stronghold! I’ll kill you!"

Suddenly, the old man moved. He opened his mouth and slowly spat out a small sphere the size of an abacus bead.

The small sphere floated in the air, radiating a golden glow that was exceptionally striking in the dark. It instantly captivated Lin Yuanshan’s attention.

"What kind of treasure..."

His words ca to an abrupt halt.

The small golden sphere transford into a streak of light, piercing through his throat in an instant. It moved so fast he had no ti to react.

The next mont, Lin Yuanshan’s body slumped to the ground. He was dead.

Qin Mo, still looking like a simple old farr, opened his mouth and inhaled. The golden sphere, which had been hovering in mid-air, shot back and was swallowed.

That golden sphere was precisely his Sword Pill, and also his Flying Sword!

Swallowing the Sword Pill, Qin Mo tucked his hands into his sleeves. With a completely harmless expression on his face, he took a step back, and his body silently lted into the darkness, disappearing from sight.

At this ti, Man Datou, Yang Qingniu, and others rushed over. They had heard the commotion and ca to see what had happened.

The n from Black Mountain Stronghold hadn’t run far yet. Man Datou saw them, snorted coldly, and shouted, "Where do you Assassins think you’re going? After them! Don’t let them get away!"

Just then, Wang Yi, who was still in front of Eggshell Castle, received a system notification.

"DING! You have made contact with the Black Mountain Stronghold faction and triggered a Bandit Suppression Quest. Do you wish to accept?"

"DING! Notice: After accepting the quest, information on the Black Mountain Stronghold and quest details will be provided. You may decline to accept this quest without any penalty."

’What’s going on? A Bandit Suppression Quest popped up out of nowhere?’ Wang Yi’s focus sharpened. He imdiately replied to the system, "Accept!"
