Chapter 1031: 1016, Jue and Zhan’s Couple Extra (15)
When Zhan Mingyan found out, Bai Jue simply threw out a line, “He’s my grandfather too. Is there a problem with , the prospective grandson-in-law, holding a birthday banquet for my grandfather?”
His domineering words left Zhan Mingyan speechless. Zhan Ze and Lu Hui burst into laughter when they heard it, especially the old Master Zhan, who smiled all day long, unable to close his mouth in joy.
The cost of booking the entire hotel was nothing worth ntioning for the Zhan Family, but what mattered was the sentint behind it. Bai Jue, by doing this, had considered himself as part of their family. With a prospective son-in-law so in tune with their wishes, how could Old Master Zhan not be delighted?
Night fell, and the wind began to rise.
At the hotel entrance, luxury cars were congregated. n in suits and leather shoes, and won in gorgeous dresses, the thin fabric of which undoubtedly made one shiver with cold.
In such cold weather, for the sake of looking beautiful and maintaining poise, they seed to disregard the need for warmth entirely.
In the resplendent hall, luxurious crystal lights cast dazzling beams, and within the soft, hazy light, groups of won adorned in pearls and jewels were paying each other complints, while secretly comparing themselves.
As for the n, every conversation was fraught with veiled threats and intrigues, each sentence spoken had to be carefully considered to avoid unwittingly inviting trouble.
At the Banquet Hall entrance, a figure in light aqua occasionally looked outside, her lightly made-up face radiating with vitality.
“Mingyan, what are you looking at?” Quan Yifei approached briskly, her heels clicking on the floor.
Zhan Mingyan’s gaze retracted from the door and turned towards her, “Nothing.”
“Mingyan, you’ve been distracted since the beginning. Don’t tell
you are waiting for Bai Jue?” Quan Yifei, seeing through her thoughts, teased.
Zhan Mingyan’s cheeks turned slightly red, “Who’s waiting for him? Let’s go sit over there and talk.”
Old Master Zhan’s birthday banquet was attended by all the eminent aristocratic families of Beijing, an occasion always ripe for networking and fostering connections. Zhan Mingyan lacked interest, her mind filled entirely with thoughts of soone who was yet to arrive.
“Eh, why isn’t Jian Qing here?” Zhan Mingyan asked.
“My sister-in-law has been suffering from severe morning sickness lately, and my brother took her out to get so fresh air. They went to Provence the day before yesterday and have not returned yet,” Quan Yifei said, sipping her juice.
Zhan Mingyan smiled helplessly, it seed that morning sickness was really hard to avoid.
“Mingyan!”
A gentle female voice sounded from across the way.
Zhan Mingyan looked up and saw He Min’s mother.
She put down her juice and stood up, “Aunt Xie!”
“It’s been quite a while since I’ve seen you, Mingyan, you are growing more beautiful.” Xie Shan smiled faintly, her eyes reflecting a hint of pity as she looked at Zhan Mingyan.
“Aunt Xie is making fun of .” Zhan Mingyan smiled gracefully, then greeted He Min.
“Back then, Ahui and I thought that our two families might beco related by marriage, but unfortunately, things did not go as we wished, all because Min here did not asure up,” Xie Shan sighed.
Zhan Mingyan made a sound of acknowledgnt, feeling slightly awkward.
“Mother!” He Min called out.
Xie Shan, seeing the uneasy expression on Zhan Mingyan’s face, smiled, “Mingyan, don’t overthink. Even if you are not my daughter-in-law, Auntie still treats you like my daughter. Visit us more often. Auntie will make you sothing tasty.”
Zhan Mingyan breathed a sigh of relief and nodded.
“Auntie, Big Brother He!” Lou Xin donned a floor-length white dress, her large wavy hair cascading over her shoulders, and her exquisite makeup adding even more allure.
He Min glanced at her, offering a distant smile.
“Auntie, it’s been a long ti,” Lou Xin said affectionately as she hooked her arm into Xie Shan’s, perfectly imitating the deanor of a young daughter.
“I was planning to visit you these past few days.”
Xie Shan patted her hand and said with a beaming smile, “Indeed, it’s been a long ti. I heard from your mother you were traveling abroad with friends.”
“Hmm, I even ran into Big Brother He today,” said Lou xin, gazing at He Min with a hint of affection in her eyes.
Xie Shan glanced at her son, “What a coincidence.”
“Yep, I also bought so gifts for you, but left them at ho. I’ll bring them to you tomorrow,” Lou xin sweetly said.
“Girls are always more thoughtful, not like He Min, who never brings
a gift when he cos ho,” Xie Shan said with a gentle smile.
Upon hearing this, He Min just gave a faint smile.
“Aunt Xie, you guys chat, I’ll go over to my grandfather for a mont,” Zhan Mingyan said.
Quan Yifei, who already disliked Lou xin, naturally left with her.
But so flies seem to stick closer the more you try to avoid them.
“Miss Zhan!”
Lou xin took a glass of red wine from a waiter, her gaze sweeping over Quan Mingxuan and his companions, lips curling into what she believed to be her most attractive angle.
After the incident on the street last ti, Zhan Mingyan had completely lost all fondness for her, “What is it?”
“I might have spoken improperly during the incident on the street last ti. Please don’t take it to heart,” Lou xin said, glancing around and pretending to ask nonchalantly, “By the way, why isn’t Miss Zhan’s boyfriend here?”
“Is that any of your business?” Zhan Mingyan looked down at Lou xin’s high heels, suddenly rembering how Bai Jue had sared sweet potato paste on her shoe that day.
Lou xin smiled awkwardly, “Today is Old Master Zhan’s birthday banquet. I thought Miss Zhan might bring her boyfriend to introduce him to everyone.”
“Whether Mingyan introduces her boyfriend or not doesn’t seem to be any of your business, right?” Quan Yifei couldn’t help but speak up for Zhan Mingyan.
Lou xin bit her lip lightly, not daring to openly confront Quan Yifei, who was from the Quan Family.
“Miss Quan, is there so misunderstanding between us? I didn’t an anything by it; I just genuinely wanted to show concern for Miss Zhan, since she is also a friend of Big Brother He,” she said.
Han Yue leaned against the chair, a wicked smile tugging at his lips, “From the sound of it, are you He Min’s girlfriend?”
In their circle, who didn’t know Han Yue? When Lou xin realized Han Yue was addressing her, her eyes sparkled.
She shyly shook her head, “I’m also just friends with Big Brother He, it’s still too early to talk about any girlfriend matters.”
Han Yue felt disgusted by her.
Since when did He Min like to mingle with people like her?
Quan Mingxuan noticed him rolling his eyes and his lips curved up slightly.
He swirled the wine in his glass, took a sip, and out of the corner of his eye saw a figure appear at the door, his eyebrows raising slightly.
Talk of the devil, and he shall appear.
“Mingyan,” he called.
Zhan Mingyan looked at him, “What’s up?”
“Look over there,” he gestured behind her.
Zhan Mingyan turned her head, following his gaze, and a beautiful smile lit up her eyes.
“What are you waiting for? Go on,” Quan Yifei nudged her arm, signaling her.
Zhan Mingyan put down her wine glass and, regardless of the teasing looks from Quan Mingxuan and the others, swiftly walked towards the person.
As she walked, her pace eventually turned into a light jog.
