Chapter 66: Chapter 57: Battle of the Four Kingdoms 2

Shortly after Chen Xiao and his two companions left the room, the remaining three groups, each wary of the others, also left the room.

At a corridor in the top floor corner, the trio, led by the fat man, cautiously moved forward while discussing sothing.

“Brother Ma… you should have let

blast that kid just now, with our capabilities, taking down nine of them would be no problem!” the fat man, belly leading the way, stated in a rough voice.

The person called “Brother Ma” was skinny, with sharp facial features, wearing a glaringly bright red leather jacket.

Upon hearing the fat man’s words, he kicked out, but due to the disproportion between their sizes, he nearly toppled over himself.

“Can’t you use your damn brain? If you had fired a shot there, your big belly would have been the first to go!” he said with a frustrated look. “This isn’t like before when we could just run if we couldn’t fight. The boss said either we bring back the goods, or we die here tonight! Do you understand?!”

The fat man nodded and grunted in acknowledgnt.

“So, Brother Ma, what do we do now?” another person asked.

This brother, nad Wang San, had muscles built from taking beatings, rarely used his brains, but never backed down from a fight, making him the most skilled in combat among the trio.

“Brother Ma” displayed a fierce expression, his eyes spinning wildly as if to make it obvious that he was scheming.

“Let’s find a place to hide first… wait for them to fight it out, then we’ll take advantage as the final survivors!” he whispered.

“Hmm… good idea!” Wang San nodded and gave a thumbs up.

Seeing Wang San approve, the fat man imdiately chid in: “Hmm hmm… that’s a really good idea!”

Brother Ma pursed his lips, his face showing cunning, as if he were stroking a mustache if he had one.

As they talked, the trio turned a corner.

Suddenly… they all paused.

In front of them, the corridor was cluttered with about a dozen chairs, the ones with wheels, pushed out haphazardly from the eting room. So were even stacked on top of each other, nearly blocking the hallway. It was possible to get through, but definitely with great difficulty.

The fat man blinked, looking baffled.

“Brother Ma, what does this an?” he asked.

Brother Ma didn’t answer him directly, speaking in a hushed tone, “Don’t go forward, there’s definitely a trap. Let’s withdraw.” He also gestured for them to move back.

Indeed, withdrawing was a good idea, but whether they could make it back was another matter.

No sooner had he spoken than a tallic ringing sounded as a fire extinguisher, its nozzle wrapped with tape and its base scorched black, rolled to their feet. The pressure gauge was already in the red.

Brother Ma hadn’t noticed these details, but the sight of a fire extinguisher rolling over was almost as visually impactful as a grenade rolling towards them.

Without a second thought, he yelled, “Scatter!”

As he spoke, he was already the first to dive into a nearby room.

Wang San quickly dodged, seeking refuge around a corridor corner that wasn’t blocked.

And the fat man? Being too hefty, he couldn’t run fast or jump far, but he still tried his best to run in the opposite direction.

After that…

Within the next second, a lot happened.

First, the fire extinguisher “tenderly cared for” by Bai Xiong exploded with a loud bang, filling the corridor with dry powder, drastically reducing visibility.

At the sa ti, the fat man instinctively lay down on the floor, covering his head with his hands.

Simultaneously, the door to the room Brother Ma had dived into was blocked by a suddenly falling bookcase.

Also at the sa ti, Wang San, unable to even open his eyes in the dusty environnt, felt a powerful hand grasp his neck. He couldn’t even shout as he was dragged into the white fog.

At the sa mont, amid the cloud of powder, a sharp, eerie laugh echoed.

“Hehehehe…”

It was incredibly chilling.

Ti rewound two minutes earlier.

On the other side of the top floor of the building, a group arrived at a closed door. A tattooed lad stepped forward and without a word, kicked it open, not caring that his seemingly heroic act was akin to suicide.

“No one!” the tattooed lad glanced around and said, sowhat disappointed.

A burly man with a face full of scars said nothing, picked up the gun, and headed towards the next room.

These three were not gang mbers but a group resembling desperados. They committed arson and murder casually, and with a reputation of being ruthless and motivated only by money, they had a bit of a na for themselves in the circles.

A week ago, they had received a lucrative job—murder. They were to kill at will without worry about the consequences. This delighted the trio, regardless of whether it was true or not, because the money was laid out in front of them.

Having arrived here, they all felt that this “private job” was likely genuine, since just being present on the top floor of the Jinding Building with guns was proof enough.

With this in mind, the three n hesitated even less, emboldened by the idea that “having guns and not being afraid to die” gave them an advantage as they recklessly searched for targets in the corridors.

In fact, as people who lived daily with their lives on the line, except for Chen Xiao and his n, there really was no match for the three of them.

And these three n were also very confident in their own desperate capabilities.

Suddenly, a loud noise erupted from the other side of the top floor.

“Huh? What’s that noise?” the tattooed kid paused and asked.

“The burly man” thought for a mont and stated sothing obvious, “Sothing exploded.”

The last one, a pale and tall man, was quite experienced.

“It’s a fire extinguisher that blew up!” he said calmly.

The other two nodded in agreent.

“There must be a fight!” The tattooed kid blurted out, and just like before, he kicked open another door, raised his gun, and sprayed bullets only to find the room empty; he sighed in frustration, seemingly a bit dispirited.

“Let’s go, let’s take a look!” the burly man said in a deep voice, having a simple plan: if truly there were two groups fighting, they could just finish them off, collect the weapons, and then the remaining three “softies” would be easy to handle.

The other two understood his intent imdiately, their faces displaying cruel smiles, eager for action.

But just then.

Another utterly miserable scream echoed.

It’s hard to imagine how much pain one would have to endure to scream like that, but it reverberated throughout the floor, sending chills down one’s spine.

“…”

All three froze in place.

“Damn… what now?” the tattooed kid muttered, frowning.

“Ahhhhhhhhhh—”

Followed by yet another scream, the three instinctively stepped back, even feeling a trace of fear.

People are naturally frightened by the unknown; as desperados accustod to licking the blade and seeing bloodshed, they could handle the cries of pain if they were stabbing soone, no matter how pitiful. Yet in this empty building, from an unknown corner, such screams involuntary led to terrifying thoughts.

And so, their fierce aggression was sowhat dampened by the screams.

As the three hesitated whether to check it out or not,

A person ran out from around a corner in a corridor directly ahead of them.

They imdiately aid their guns.

This person staggered forward, increasingly closer to the three.

“Damn…” the pale man gaped as he recognized the person’s face.

He wore a red jacket, his hands taped in front of his chest, his wrists and surrounding muscles torn open with blood gushing out. His eye sockets were empty, two dark bloody pits, his face sared with blood.

He ran helplessly forward.

“Help…”

“Save …”

He groaned miserably.

He then stumbled and fell to the ground.

The entire corridor behind him splattered with blood.

It was a horrific sight.
