Chapter 78: Chapter 78 Proposal
“You… weren’t you going to make a phone call?”
Qiao En’s fingers, clutching the doorknob, turned white.
“En’en, do you like these?”
Ding Hao, imrsed in his own world, took Qiao En’s arm, gesturing for her to look at the hospital room he had ticulously decorated.
The hospital bed was sprinkled with rose petals, the floor was filled with roses, and there were lit heart-shaped candles.
He had rendered the atmosphere to the utmost romance.
“I don’t like it.”
Qiao En said coldly.
Ding Hao was sowhat surprised, but then again, not that surprised.
He reached out naturally, attempting to wrap his arm around Qiao En’s shoulders.
“En’en, take your ti getting used to it, I believe you will eventually fall for my damn romantic charm, I swear, I’ll make you the happiest woman in all of Rong City.”
Zhou Jin’an wasn’t good at sweet talk, and Qiao En had gotten used to his style.
On the other hand, Ding Hao was the opposite, with sweet nothings coming naturally to him.
“Ding Hao, I have sothing to tell you.”
Qiao En decided to lay her cards on the table.
In her haste, she had used him, and she owed him an apology.
“En’en, wait a mont, let
speak first.”
Ding Hao raised a finger to Qiao En’s lips, silencing her.
The magenta box, as if by magic, appeared again in his palm. He suddenly knelt on one knee, and as the box sprang open, a large diamond ring was revealed in front of Qiao En.
“En’en, let’s get married.”
Ding Hao proposed unexpectedly, his face full of anticipation as he looked at Qiao En.
She was petrified, leaning against the wall, her feet moving back continuously.
“Ding Hao, don’t do this, please get up.”
“En’en, just say ‘yes’, and I’ll get up right away.”
Ding Hao lifted the diamond ring, indicating for Qiao En to put it on.
The situation had escalated beyond Qiao En’s control.
“Ding Hao, listen to .”
Qiao En tried to maintain a semblance of calm.
“You’re a good person, really good, but I haven’t considered marriage, so… I’m sorry, I can’t accept your proposal.”
Qiao En found the most tactful excuse to decline.
In Ding Hao’s eyes, disappointnt flashed, but he wouldn’t give up, “If I’m that good, why don’t you consider it now? En’en, I truly want to spend the rest of my life with you, rest assured, I’ll treat you well.”
“I’m sorry, I used you.”
Qiao En closed her eyes in agony.
He rose abruptly, seized Qiao En’s arm, and demanded in a muffled voice, “What did you say? Say that again?”
“I don’t like you. The reason I did what I did was to use you.”
The most truthful words were the cruelest arrows.
Ding Hao suddenly laughed.
A cold, scornful smile played on his lips, the chill nacing.
“You used
to help Zhou Jin’an? Qiao En, you’re really despicable! He’s tired of you, and you still throw yourself at him? In what way am I not as good as him?”
Angrily humiliated, Ding Hao looked terrifying.
Qiao En was at a loss; she had no strength to argue back.
“I’m sorry.”
Throughout this ordeal, these were the words she had said the most.
But what Ding Hao wanted was never an apology.
He furiously stamped out the heart-shaped candles, destroying the delicate roses.
He vented his emotions recklessly, while Qiao En remained unusually calm.
Suddenly, Ding Hao rushed over, grabbed Qiao En’s hand, and insisted on fitting the ring onto her finger.
“This is what you and Zhou Jin’an owe ; you must repay it.”
Initially, Qiao En resisted, but eventually, she gave up.
“A lon forced from the vine isn’t sweet.”
But Ding Hao, fixated on his obsession, wasn’t listening to any of it.
“I don’t care if it’s sweet or not, I insist on forcing it.”
The diamond ring eventually ended up on Qiao En’s ring finger.
Her fingers were slender, and the ring was a size too large, loosely shaking on her finger.
Qiao En didn’t take it off, as she loathed being forced into anything.
“Doctor Ding, can you leave now? I need to rest.”
Qiao En’s face was cold, and so was her gaze.
Indeed, it was getting late; it was almost eleven at night.
Ding Hao had said what he wanted to say and done what he needed to do.
“Okay, you rest. I’ll co again tomorrow.”
However, Ding Hao couldn’t make it the next day.
Qiao En heard from a nurse at the hospital that there had been a problem with a surgery Ding Hao had previously been in charge of, and he’d been sued by the patient’s family. Early in the morning, the police had taken him away.
Qiao En proceeded with the discharge procedures.
She didn’t wear the ring; she put it in her purse, planning to find another opportunity to return it to Ding Hao.
Qiao En’s father had been recovering well lately. He was able to stand by the bed and walk a few shaky steps.
Whenever Qiao En visited, he always wanted to chat with her. He spoke slowly and unclearly, repeating the sa sentence over and over.
“En’en, find a good person and get married early.”
He’d been seriously ill and had faced death; what he was most concerned about were his children. Qiao En, his eldest daughter, was almost twenty-five, and he couldn’t bear to see her struggling on her own.
“Dad, I know.”
Qiao En always responded patiently.
In the laundry room, Qiao En’s mother pulled her aside.
“En’en, I’ve heard people say that Doctor Ding is pursuing you?”
Ding Hao was too high-profile, and the whole hospital was already buzzing with the news. Qiao En knew she couldn’t keep it from her mother.
But she still denied it, “Where did you hear that?”
“En’en, Doctor Ding is a good man, with excellent dical skills. Your father and I are very satisfied with him. What about you? Don’t set your sights too high; life is all about having your feet on the ground.”
Qiao En’s mother spoke earnestly, trying to influence Qiao En. She understood her mother’s intentions, but matters of the heart were not so simple.
“Mom, I understand. I’m going to buy so chicken soup for Dad and will be right back.”
Qiao En found an excuse to leave.
She felt overwheld, with too many things happening recently that she was almost at her limit.
However, she hadn’t expected that, just as she ca out from the inpatient departnt, she would run into An Jinhua’s secretary, Yao Jian.
He ca out of the gynecology departnt, carrying a bag of dicine, talking on the phone as he walked.
He didn’t notice Qiao En and headed straight for the parking lot.
Qiao En kept an eye on him and quietly followed behind.
Yao Jian’s ride was a dark blue Bentley, parked at the very end of the parking lot.
He didn’t press the car key, but walked up to the Bentley and tapped on the window.
The window glass slowly lowered, revealing a woman’s face.
Upon recognizing the face, Qiao En was taken aback.
Qiao En was shocked, her face ashen.
“You… weren’t you just going to make a phone call?”
Her fingers grasping the door handle turned white.
“En’en, do you like these?”
Ding Hao was imrsed in his own world; he tugged at Qiao En’s arm, gesturing for her to look at the hospital room he’d lavishly decorated.
The hospital bed was strewn with rose petals, the floor was filled with roses, and there were lighted heart-shaped candles.
He’d made the atmosphere utterly romantic.
But Qiao En couldn’t accept any of it.
“I don’t like it.”
Qiao En said coldly.
Ding Hao was sowhat surprised, but not too surprised.
He stretched out his hand, naturally wanting to wrap his arm around Qiao En’s shoulder.
“En’en, take your ti getting used to it. I believe you’ll definitely fall for my damn romance, and I swear, I’ll make you the happiest woman in Rong City.”
Zhou Jin’an wasn’t good at sweet talk, and Qiao En had grown accustod to his style.
Unlike him, Ding Hao could spout lovey-dovey words at ease, to which Qiao En felt completely indifferent.
“Ding Hao, I have sothing I want to tell you.”
Qiao En decided to lay her cards on the table.
