Chapter 141: Stop Holding Back

Chapter 139

THUD—!

The heavy, swaying body of the guard collapsed to the floor, causing everyone in the room to freeze in a state of collective shock and utter confusion.

There was shock at the grim reality that a boy had just committed an act of murder.

And there was profound confusion at how an Aspirant had managed to kill a high-grade ta-human with an attack that had seed like a relatively "harmless" energy beam only monts earlier.

Even Van himself stood stupefied.

In his daze, he unconsciously released the wire he had been gripping, which had been continuously electrocuting the guard in front of him.

That man also collapsed, his body spasming violently on the tiles like soone suffering a massive seizure.

That made two opponents down out of the nine who had sward him.

Yet, Van was too paralyzed by his own actions to capitalize on the opening.

He—he had just taken a human life?

He stared down at his trembling hands, which suddenly looked as though they were stained deep crimson in his mind’s eye.

His pupils dilated in pure horror as his heart began to hamr against his ribs like a frantic drum.

’I—I just killed soone? Van, you actually murdered a human being? You’re a killer now? How will you ever face Ray? How will the world look at you?’

His lips quivered with fright as he stared at the grisly scene before him, the weight of the act threatening to crush his spirit.

anwhile, Bryce was beyond livid.

If it were physically possible, steam would have been erupting from every pore of his body at the sight of his elite forces being dismantled by a child.

"So, will you all continue to hold back now, even after seeing what he just did?!" he bellowed in a fit of imnse fury.

He glared at his remaining n, who stood frozen and uncertain, their previous resolve wavering.

It was true that most of them possessed powerful abilities.

In fact, every single one of them did.

But they had been holding back because, despite their orders, they couldn’t easily bring themselves to execute an innocent boy.

They knew that by doing so, they would be snuffing out a young life and ruining a future before it even began.

Though they appeared cold and formidable on the outside, they weren’t entirely stone-hearted.

But now, they were forced to reconsider their rcy.

If they hadn’t restrained themselves, would their two comrades still be standing?

While they guarded Bryce and his faction—and while the man often treated them as little more than disposable tools—they did not feel the sa coldness toward one another.

They viewed their unit almost like a family.

Though perhaps not overwhelmingly close, they shared a bond of mutual care and recognition.

Van, however, had not intended for any of this to happen.

When he saw the guard rushing toward him at full tilt, he had simply panicked and leveled his gauntlet at the threat.

In that split second of terror, he had unconsciously poured an excessive amount of ta-Force into the device, accidentally triggering a high-output blast that tore through the man’s head as if it were nothing more than thin paper.

"Enough holding back. We have been delayed in this room far too long."

The cold voice of one of the guards snapped everyone out of their internal reflections, including Van.

Upon hearing those words, the boy’s heart skipped a beat.

Before he could even blink, a guard was already standing directly in his personal space.

Such a feat should have been impossible for a standard ta-human, as having an ability didn’t automatically grant overwhelming velocity.

What Van failed to realize was that this specific guard possessed the gift of superspeed.

Within this elite squad, the talents were varied; so boasted incredible quickness, while others possessed imnse super strength.

The rest were divided between barrier-users and other specialized minority abilities.

The man moved too fast for Van to even register the threat, let alone blink, before a boot smashed into his face with the staggering force of a baseball bat.

The impact lifted his entire body off the ground, sending him hurtling through the air until he slamd hard into the far wall.

Van coughed violently, a spray of saliva erupting from his mouth.

His eyes nearly rolled into the back of his head from the sheer trauma, but before he could lose consciousness, the speedster moved again.

Van was snatched off the wall, his blurry vision eting the gaze of the man, who was visibly shaking with suppressed rage.

The next mont, Van was hurled like a discarded ragdoll across the room.

Van’s body cut through the air at imnse speed but before he could connect with sothing, he regained himself and the gauntlet around his hand glowed with increasing brightness.

A beam shot out from his palm striking the ground and awkwardly slowing his body to a weird halt with his body forcefully yanked out of the air and skipping on the ground.

His arm grazed a broken glass that pierced deep drawing blood that caused him to groan loudly.

All through the battle, he had been bloodied, injured and on the verge of death a few tis. He hadn’t realized it because he was focused on one thing.

He wasn’t actually intent on fighting the n to death, he just wanted one thing and one thing alone.

One of the three guards guarding Bryce held a briefcase in hand that held sothing destructive.

The nuke bomb that he had been deceived in building.

This determination forced him to slowly push his body off the ground even though his body ached for a rest. He didn’t have that leisure of opportunity to rest.

"It’s-it’s crazy how the people that were ant to protect us, are pulling such a stunt to take the lives of others. Sha." Van spat loudly as his eyes burned with sothing beyond rage the more he stared at Elysa and Bryce.

But the duo didn’t even reply to him as they watched him stagger to his feet with blood dripping down his lips.

’That’s right. Why was I even feeling bad for killing him? I-my life was at stake and it was kill or be killed. I-i-i chose to kill so I can live. And I have to live with that decision. Now is not the ti to feel bad or sorry for these bastards.’

The guards too were staring daggers at the kid.

But Van didn’t care as he turned his gaze to face Elysa one more ti.

"Do you actually think you will get away with this? What will you do when the Corps actually finds out?"

For the first ti in a while, Elysa’s face changed into a sinister expression as a wide grin flashed across her face.

"Well, who would actually tell on ? After all, you will be dead now."

"Huh?"

Zooom—!

The speed was too great as two n suddenly appeared in front of him.

One grabbed the other in a piggyback ride and the next second, the second man’s hands bulged imnsely as he jumped off from his comrade’s back.

A crushing punch that carried the force of a raging bull connected with Van’s face.

Bam—!

The boy’s face flung backwards with waves of blood oozing out imnsely.

"Ack..."

It hurt.

That strength was abnormal.

A palm strike smashed into his abdon and then a cracking sound filled the air as Van’s body shot through the air and collided with a wall.

Instantly, dents ford his shape as his form was plastered on the wall.

Blood spilled out continuously from his mouth and nose while a loud ringing noise kept echoing in his ears drowning any sounds.
