Chapter 540: Chapter 535: The Sly Mu Jiawen
“Spoiled?”
Jiawen’s tone was clearly skeptical. She leaned to one side, grabbed her glass, took a sip, then shook her head, “It’s not spoiled, it’s very sweet.”
Zhu Jin and Xu Yan were staring at her with their mouths agape, thinking the sa thing: Could it be she’s drunk?
You drink your white wine that has no vinegar or salt added, of course it’s not spoiled, of course it’s very sweet!
Dare you try that ss you just mixed?
However…
Wang Xiaole squinted and took another sip of the vinegary salty red wine in front of her, grimacing, “It’s spoiled!”
“It’s not!”
“It’s spoiled!”
“It’s not!”
…
Zhu Jin & Xu Yan: …
Now they could finally be sure that Jiawen was indeed drunk!
Zhu Jin was full of question marks, “Why does she act differently from others when she’s drunk?”
The red wine’s aftereffect was hitting her, Xu Yan shook her head to clear it, and gave a fair answer, “What’s so odd about that, her brain is different from others too.”
Thinking of Jiawen’s terrifying mory and IQ, Zhu Jin deeply agreed.
She wanted to say sothing more to Xu Yan, but at that mont, Jiawen suddenly turned her head and looked their way. Her dark eyes glead with a cold light under the lamp, sending a chill down Zhu Jin’s neck, a bad feeling washing over her.
As expected…
Jiawen reached for the glass of red wine from Wang Xiaole and placed it in front of her, “You taste it.”
Zhu Jin’s mouth twitched; she was now seriously suspecting that this girl wasn’t truly drunk—otherwise, how could she have played with Wang Xiaole and now be targeting her?
She quietly pushed the glass of red wine toward Xu Yan, “Well, I… can’t drink anymore, let Xu Yan have a taste.”
Jiawen didn’t stop her, the unsettling gaze turning to Xu Yan instead.
“Ah?”
The aftereffects were hitting her, and Xu Yan’s mind was a bit muddled. However, she still rembered what Jiawen had just added to the red wine and so she pushed the glass firmly forward without hesitation, “No thanks, you added vinegar and salt.”
“Nonsense, it’s Sprite and sugar.”
The one slapping the table in denial was actually Wang Xiaole, who had finally managed to open her eyes. She glared at Xu Yan, “Are—are you going to drink or not? Don’t—don’t make excuses.”
Obviously, Wang Xiaole had forgotten why she asked Xu Yan to taste the wine and thought they were still competing in drinking.
“I…”
Before the word “don’t” could co out, Jiawen suddenly sat down on the chair with a plop, crossed her arms on the table, and collapsed into sleep.
The place suddenly went silent, and the three of them all stared at her without blinking.
But one minute passed, then two minutes… Jiawen lay there quietly, not moving a muscle.
Phew…
Zhu Jin let out a huge sigh of relief and turned her head to look at the other drunk, Wang Xiaole, only to discover that she had actually picked up the adulterated glass of red wine she had placed in front of Xu Yan, tipped her head back, and guzzled it all down!
Zhu Jin’s mouth twitched and she couldn’t help swallowing her saliva. This girl was really harsh on herself.
Suddenly there was a loud clatter, startling Zhu Jin. She turned her head and saw that Xu Yan could no longer hold on; her head hit the table, and she promptly collapsed onto it motionless.
Zhu Jin: …
Four people, and now two are down, another is acting crazy because of the alcohol, her eyes shut as tears stread down from the tang of the vinegar.
It really lived up to the saying from the beginning of the night: “No one leaves until we’re drunk!”
At this mont, a cellphone in sobody’s coat pocket suddenly rang. Zhu Jin staggered to her feet, followed the sound, and reached for Mu Jiawen’s down jacket hanging on the back of the chair. She fished out the mobile phone and saw the incoming call display read “Big Brother,” and she paused.
Is this… Jiajia’s brother?
Which brother?
She hesitated, dawdled, and finally answered the call just before it was about to disconnect. Then she coughed lightly and said in the softest tone she could manage, “Hello, Big Brother. This is Zhu Jin, Jiajia’s classmate. She… She played too hard tonight and has fallen asleep.”
For so reason, there was a mont of silence on the other end.
After a few seconds, a familiar light laughter ca through, “Zhu Jin, I never realized you were so polite to , calling
brother right away. Geez, does that an I should direct the cash gift for the day after tomorrow to you instead?”
Considering their mutual relationship as classmates, Jiang Yan and Mu Jiawen had planned to contribute two gifts for the wedding: Jiang Yan would contribute to the Yu Family, and Mu Jiawen would contribute to the Zhu Family.
Thinking about it, I’ve actually lost money instead of saving it.
But just for Zhu Jin’s call of ‘brother,’ let the loss be a loss.
Zhu Jin, upon hearing Jiang Yan’s voice, first froze and then said annoyedly, “Why is it you? You two really know how to play, even signing off as ‘Big Brother’!”
Know how to play?
Mu Jiawen had nothing to do with those two words. At first, when they weren’t yet a couple, to show a closer relationship than just friends, she labeled his number as “Big Brother” on her first phone.
Although their relationship changed later on, the na in the phone’s address book had beco a habit and it was never changed.
It was as simple as that.
“Did she drink alcohol?”
Otherwise, how could she be sleeping at this ti? It’s just past nine o’clock.
Didn’t you say it would be easier to talk at ho over dinner?
You weren’t just chatting, were you?
“Let
ask you, when Jiajia gets drunk, is she the sa as usual? Face doesn’t turn red, no drunken behavior, and doesn’t spout nonsense?”
“…”
Jiang Yan sighed and said, “Isn’t it good that she isn’t going crazy due to the drink? Even asleep, she’s trouble-free, no worries for you. You could say that among all the drunk people, Jiajia is the one who causes the least trouble. That’s great, isn’t it?”
That’s great?
Zhu Jin’s mouth twitched, “How can you say such a thing with a clear conscience? She may not need looking after, but she made Wang Xiaole stupidly drunk.”
“What? Really?” Jiang Yan was surprised; the naughty girl had never done anything like this when she was drunk before.
“Really?” Zhu Jin snorted, “Wang Xiaole was already drunk, and she added a whole bottle of vinegar and a whole bag of salt to her red wine, making her drink two full glasses of it.”
Jiang Yan: “…”
He truly hadn’t expected that, and couldn’t even imagine it.
“Well then, I shall co now to pick her up. How about the others? Is Xu Yan drunk? Should Zhu Zhen co over and pick her up?”
“Pick up what? It’s freezing cold outside, and a trip out there could get you a cold. Tonight, the four of us are going to stay over in the new house. But you and Zhu Zhen really do need to co over and help, I can’t get the three of them upstairs by myself. Co over and give
a hand, then you can go back.”
After hanging up the phone, Zhu Jin called her ho and said she wouldn’t be back that night.
While she was on the phone, Wang Xiaole, who had been fussing around, finally lay down on the table and fell asleep too.
By this ti, she was completely sober. She got up, cleared the leftover food on the table into the trash can in the kitchen, washed the dishes and placed them aside, and then wiped the table clean. She looked at the red wine in the decanter, which had been spiked, and couldn’t help but laugh wryly. She didn’t pour it out; instead, she waited for Mu Jiawen to sober up tomorrow and have a taste herself.
That rascal was really cunning. Despite being drunk, she didn’t touch the dark red wine she had spiked herself.
Just after cleaning up and sitting down, Jiang Yan and Zhu Zhen arrived.
