Chapter 493: Chapter 488 Popularity at the Agricultural University

“Jiajia…”

“That’s fine, no need to explain; I won’t be urging you to break up with him.”

As the two of them left the pizza shop and just entered the gates of Agricultural University, Yang Dan looked at Mu Jiawen, hesitating to speak.

She felt sowhat embarrassed because she had been dating mberland for almost half a year and had kept it a secret from Jiajia. It wasn’t that she didn’t want to tell her; she simply didn’t know how to break the news.

After all, mberland was nearly ten years her senior and was already on his second marriage. She could imagine if she told her parents, they would definitely scold her severely and then order her to break up with him.

No matter whether mberland was wealthy, her parents would never agree.

Therefore, up until now, not a single one of her friends knew about this relationship.

She wasn’t scared of Jiajia finding out but rather worried about her…

“Did you choose him because he gives you a sense of security?”

Putting herself in soone else’s shoes, Mu Jiawen was with Jiang Yan partly because of the thrilling feeling, but a big reason was the sense of security he gave her, the steadiness and peace of mind she felt when with him.

Hence, Yang Dan must feel similar.

“Yes,” Yang Dan nodded emphatically, “You know, when I first started working part-ti at the pizza shop, the pay he offered wasn’t the highest. If I had chosen to go for more money, I could have stayed at the milk tea shop. The reason I went to work for him was that his style of managent allowed

to relax. I felt at ease working in his shop. Likewise, that’s how he as a person made

feel too.

“Jiajia, as you know, I have to support myself through university; I have no other recourse. To get out of the countryside, I need to work incredibly hard and keep pushing ahead single-mindedly. Guan Jiao told

she envied , said I was impressive and capable for paying my own tuition and living expenses…”

Yang Dan shook her head in resignation as she spoke, “She only saw my struggle and effort but didn’t know how tired I actually was. I studied at university for almost four years, but never truly enjoyed a college life. Ever since I stepped into Beijing, my life has been centered on only one thing – making money. It wasn’t until later, when I started at the pizza shop, that I was able to relax a bit from that state.”

Mu Jiawen knew all too well about Yang Dan’s family circumstances and all of her experiences since coming to Beijing.

At her friend’s explanation, she simply sighed lightly, “You don’t have to care too much about what others think. As long as you believe it’s worth a shot, then it is. Besides, we’re still young, right? If things with mberland don’t work out, we can always just break up and find soone else, no big deal.”

Yang Dan turned and glared at her playfully, “Just a mont ago you said you wouldn’t persuade

to break up, and now you’re talking about finding soone else if things don’t work out?”

Mu Jiawen stood her ground, “He is a lot older than you after all, and the generational gap is bound to be wide. If you can’t bridge it and run into irreconcilable differences, wouldn’t breaking up and moving on be the logical step? So, is there a contradiction here? No, no contradiction!”

“Yes, yes, no contradiction. You’re right, everything you said is right.”

The two of them chatted as they walked, quickly arriving at the campus’s research base.

As soon as they entered, soone greeted Mu Jiawen, “Hey, look, that beauty from Beijing University is here to dig around for veggies again.”

“Yo, I better stash these away. These are for my parents, can’t sell them to her.”

“Old Hu, what about your pigs? Didn’t you say you’re selling them? That beauty could probably handle them.”

The man known as Old Hu, with a dark complexion, replied flatly, “Get lost, kid. These are Dutch pigs.”

“Old Li, your chickens…”

“She’s already bought three chickens from . I’ve got to keep the rest for an assignnt, not selling them!”

Her voice was decisive, but when Mu Jiawen looked over, as soon as she t the other person’s dark, glossy eyes, her cheeks twitched, and she forced out a wry smile, “One, I can sell you one more at most. I have to keep the remaining male and female.”

Mu Jiawen asked with curiosity, “Isn’t everyone on break? If they’re left at the school, is there still soone to feed them?”

To tell the truth, even though the male student appeared big and burly, the chicks he raised were really good – the at was not at all tough, very tender, delicious whether in soup or stir-fried spicy chicken.

Yang Dan explained to her on the side, “Tomorrow, there’s one last opportunity to turn in howork at the school. If it’s satisfactory, then there’s no need to raise any more after coming back from the winter break.”

Hearing that there would be no more raising, Mu Jiawen sighed, “Your school is too lenient on students, not strict at all. How can raising chickens be a one-ti thing? What if they all die the second ti? How would we know the chances of that happening without trying?”

Yang Dan looked at her expressionlessly, “The person is a third-year graduate student, he’s already raised chickens for two years. This howork assignnt is purely for extra credit.”

After Yang Dan finished speaking, the chicken-raising student was also quite speechless. He said to Mu Jiawen, “Beijing University junior, I’ve already sold you chicks at a discount three tis. What’s up? You still want

to beco a professional chicken farr?”

Mu Jiawen sheepishly touched her nose, then pointed at a small rooster with a large red comb and said, “I’ll take this one, thank you senior.”

She then took out twenty yuan from her pocket, but, after thinking about it and feeling it wasn’t right, she took out another ten yuan and handed it over together.

The burly male student accepted the money and tucked it into his pocket, then stretched his hand into the chicken cage, grabbed the rooster with the big red comb…and pulled out the little hen next to it, swiftly tieing it with a hemp rope and handing it to Mu Jiawen.

Mu Jiawen was stunned for a mont, she looked at the little hen in her hands, then back at the male student, and asked uncertainly, “Senior, you… can’t tell male from female?”

“You’re the one who can’t tell them apart, I just told you I need to keep one male and one female for howork. Now there’s only one male and two females left in the cage, and you still want a male? What, my hens aren’t tasty to eat?”

Mu Jiawen: …

She looked at the senior who was full of indignation and nodded honestly, “Tasty!”

But roosters are pretty, she originally wanted to pluck so feathers to make shuttlecocks, but it seed that was not going to happen now.

Yang Dan couldn’t help but burst into a “pfft” of laughter. Mu Jiawen gave her a glance and snorted, “You have the nerve to laugh, waiting years for your experint opportunity, and in the end, all I got from you was a bag of potatoes.”

Indeed, Yang Dan’s practical course was on growing potatoes, which for her was a snap, barely requiring much effort to get a bag full. Apart from leaving a small portion for the pizzeria, the rest went to Mu Jiawen.

Although they were delicious both fried and baked, they were still potatoes. How could they compare to the aroma of chicken, duck, or goose at?

“Beijing University junior, the cabbage is bundled up.”

“Beijing University junior, here’s so romaine lettuce, quickly take so for Xiaohei.”

“And over here, I have radishes…”

“Ducks…”

“…”

Mu Jiawen’s fa around there was almost catching up to Beijing University; anyhow, as soon as everyone saw her coming, they knew the deal was set. There was no worry about not being able to sell what needed to be disposed of, as long as it was edible, she would buy it.

To call her a foodie wouldn’t be quite right, it was more accurate to say she had an eye for gems.

As the two of them left the experintal base, behind them followed four or five male students, all helping her load various vegetables and poultry onto the vehicle.
