Lin Que and his team walked toward the ergency stairs. Since the office was empty when the apocalypse arrived, there were no zombies in the building. Besides a thick layer of dust covering the furniture and floor, there were only vines and leaves on the walls.

When they noticed this, everyone felt uneasy in their hearts. But since their mission was not to eliminate the Mutant Plant, they pushed the unease down and continued climbing the stairs.

The higher they went, the denser the leaves and vines covering the walls beca. When they reached the floor where the rooftop garden was located, the floor was covered with vines and leaves. Seeing this, Lin Que said in a low voice, "Be careful."

The mbers nodded and gripped their weapons tightly. They tried to avoid stepping on the vines and leaves, but no matter how they tried, they still crushed so vines.

Due to their shoes, they did not feel the faint pulsating coming from the vines whenever they stepped on them. As they walked away, the vines retracted themselves and hid under other vines, leaving a trace of green trails on the floor.

Twenty minutes later, they finally reached the entrance to the rooftop garden. Looking at the dense vines blocking the door, one of his mbers said, "Captain, I can use my ability and burn them."

Lin Que thought for a mont and said, "After the entrance is open, I will go alone. All of you stay here and prepare for the defense."

The mbers nodded and replied in unison, "Understood."

The next mont, a man raised his hand and sent a fireball toward the entrance. Unlike the Phantom Team mbers’ fire-type ability, this man’s fireball did not explode upon contact. When the fireball touched the vines and leaves, it spread and burned them instead.

Everyone’s focus was on the entrance, and no one noticed several small vines creeping slowly toward them. Five minutes later, the entrance was finally clear of the vines.

Before he entered the rooftop garden, Lin Que waited for a mont. When he did not hear any sound coming from outside, he finally rushed over and created a wind blade.

With a wave of his hand, the wind blade rushed toward the biggest Mutant Tree in the rooftop garden. When the mbers saw this, they could not help but feel excited. It seed that they would be returning today.

They thought the wind blade would cut the branch easily. Unfortunately, before the wind blade even touched the tip of a branch, countless vines rushed to the front of the Mutant Tree and ford a wooden shield.

Boom!

The wind blade collided with the shield and exploded. The explosion created wind and stirred the dust covering the ground, creating a cloud of dust.

The mont he saw his attack fail, Lin Que knew sothing was not right. Turning to his mbers, he shouted, "Everyone, be careful!"

Just after he finished his words, countless vines rushed toward the mbers. Being attacked from behind, the mbers tried to dodge, but they were standing on top of the vines attacking them.

Without any place to escape, the vines soon coiled around their limbs and necks, rendering them immobile. Feeling the tightness in their necks, their faces flushed as they struggled to free themselves.

Seeing this, Lin Que created several wind blades and cut off the vines strangling his mbers.

Crash! Crash! Crash!

While he was able to free their necks, saving them from suffocation, he had no chance to free their limbs as the vines were now attacking him.

Noticing the incoming attack, Lin Que quickly leaped to the side, barely dodging the attack.

Crack! Crack! Crack!

The vines’ sharp tips pierced the ground and embedded deep inside.

Seeing this, he narrowed his eyes and waved his hand. The next second, three wind blades flew toward the Mutant Tree at a fast speed. This ti, the vines did not block the wind blades with other vines. Instead, they pulled one of his mbers to block the attack.

"Akh!"

The young woman let out a scream when she saw the incoming wind blades. If those wind blades hit her, she would be crippled, if not lose her life.

Lin Que’s eyes widened in surprise when he saw this. Gritting his teeth, he quickly changed the direction of the wind blades.

Crack! Crack! Crack!

The wind blades scratched the woman’s cheeks, leaving a long wound, and hit the railings behind the Mutant Tree.

Feeling the pain on her cheek, the young woman almost lost her mind. She looked at her Captain with pleading eyes, hoping he would be able to save her.

Lin Que t her gaze and said, "I will free your hands, try to escape as soon as possible."

After he said this, he pulled out his blade from its sheath and rushed toward her. With a swing, he cut the vines coiling around her right hand.

Seeing that it was easy to cut the vines, hope returned to the young woman’s eyes. But before she could rejoice, green liquid splashed out from the broken vines and covered her entire arm.

The mont the green liquid touched her clothes, it let out a sizzling sound. Soon after, the liquid touched her skin and burned it instantly.

"Ahhh!" The young woman let out a painful scream and almost fainted from the pain.

In less than ten seconds, her entire arm had turned a deep red color and was covered with blisters.

When the mbers saw this, they were stunned. After a mont, one of them shouted, "Captain, be careful!"

Lin Que did not expect that the vines actually had acidic liquid inside them, and was caught off guard when he saw his mber badly injured because of his carelessness.

Due to this, he failed to react instantly when the Mutant Tree swung its branch and hit him on the back.

Duagh!

"Cough!"

The force behind this attack was stronger than a level-three Mutant could possess. Being hit directly caused Lin Que to be sent flying and cough up a mouthful of blood.
