Jacob Jennings hesitated as he looked at the outstretched hand, but finally, with resignation, he opened the image on WeChat to show Vincent Vance.

Director Lawson didn’t dare send too many images to Jacob Jennings, only four photos taken when the deceased was discovered. Yet, these four alone were enough to leave one stunned, even nauseous.

The photos showed a corpse, gnawed down to re white bones, lying twisted on the ground. Underneath were the clothes worn by the deceased, soaked in blood, truly horrifying.

The dead person’s clothes were intact, showing no signs of being torn by wild beasts, yet the flesh was inexplicably devoured entirely. The grass around was undisturbed, showing no evidence of being trampled by humans or animals.

Vincent Vance frowned, observing the set of photos. The coroner was right; this was not human-caused nor indicative of a wild attack. Rather, it seed like traces of small insects biting, and moreover, in large quantities, devouring the body savagely in an instant.

Feeling slightly queasy, he returned the phone to Jacob Jennings, instructing, "Tell your team to find lanie Morgan at all costs and capture her."

Whether it’s the Dragon Insect inside May Morgan or the sudden death of the special forces soldier, both are closely related to lanie Morgan. The priority now is to find lanie; once she’s found, everything will be clear.

Jacob Jennings knew lanie was key and quickly nodded in agreent, "I understand. I’ll allocate more personnel to find that woman."

After speaking, he cautiously glanced at May Morgan in the ward and quietly asked Vincent, "Master, Crestwood seems terrifying. Should you take your wife back first?"

Crestwood is indeed peculiar, Vincent also felt it. The place is mountains upon mountains, close to Myria, full of strange occurrences. Staying offers no benefit to him or May Morgan.

"I know. Go arrange a plane; I’ll take May back to Silverwood City imdiately." After instructing Jacob Jennings, Vincent turned and returned to the ward.

May Morgan awoke upon hearing soone enter. She already knew she was pregnant, worrying how to tell Vincent about her pregnancy before he returned.

She knew Vincent shouldn’t dislike her having a child, but that was before her body changed. Now, her body turned terrifying even to herself. She was truly afraid that once born, the child would be a monster.

When the elderly woman took her blood, she fainted, but vaguely, she felt sothing entering her mouth. Being from Crestwood, though she never saw soone breed insects, she knew of Poisonous Insect Technique. She seriously suspected she was hexed, which is why she beca this human-ghost hybrid.

Vincent saw her awake and approached her bed, holding her hand in his palm to warm it, "I’ve asked Jacob Jennings to prepare a plane; we’ll be discharged and go back for an IV soon."

May Morgan didn’t want to stay in this terrifying place either and quickly agreed, "Alright, we will leave whenever you say."

It’s rare for May to be so compliant, Vincent softly smiled, kissed her small hand at his lips, and suggested, "Once we’re back, stay at Zenith Villa. When I find lanie, I’ll let you deal with her."

May Morgan smiled shyly, lowered her head, and said, ’I’m not ruthless enough; you handle it. I can’t kill soone, I’m not lanie.’

"Yes, fortunately, you’re not lanie. Luckily, I married you, not her." Vincent gazed affectionately at May’s face, saying with relief.

Embarrassed by his look, May quickly averted her gaze, saying softly, "I’m just an ordinary girl, nothing special."

When ntioning being an ordinary girl, a pang of bitterness hit May’s heart; she’d never be ordinary again.

Why is fate so cruel? All her life, she wished to be a regular girl, but fate wouldn’t allow it.

A complex light flashed in Vincent’s eyes as he caught sight of her bitter corner, choosing not to dwell on this sensitive topic, he quickly changed the subject, "The Vance Clan is fully under my control. When we return, Logan will step down, and this ti, I will also remove grandfather’s position in the company."

His words to May aid to reassure her that once they returned to Silverwood City, it would be his domain, and no one could threaten her anymore.

All that Vincent did was to protect May, sothing she understood deeply, growing more reliant on him.

Yet thinking about her ghostly transformation, her heart couldn’t help but ache.

After arranging everything at the airport, Jacob Jennings drove Vincent and May to board the plane. Watching them board, Jacob didn’t leave but planned to return to the police station to handle his team’s affairs.

Before leaving, Vincent instructed him, "Mason Morgan may not have disclosed the solution to the Dragon Insect, but he’s the only one who understands it. Protect him; he might be useful soday."

Hearing this, Jacob Jennings nodded, "Understood, sir. Mason Morgan’s detention period is nearly over. I’ll talk to Director Lawson about bailing him out, then take him back to Silverwood City with us."

Vincent nodded, instructing further, "Your subordinate’s death is directly related to lanie, but it seems beyond her alone. She must have accomplices. May ntioned, before fainting, seeing lanie with an elderly woman who did so incomprehensible things. Check on this old woman; she might be from Crestwood."

"Got it, sir. I’ll investigate," Jacob assured promptly.

After takeoff, Vincent looked at the towering mountains below, shrouded in Crestwood’s mist, pondering the recent terrifying events, feeling indescribably unsettled.

He never believed in the supernatural, being well-educated abroad, but the occurrences forced him to acknowledge so unknown, yet undeniably existent things in this world.
