May Morgan can cook a few dishes, but they’re all too ordinary, and she’s afraid they won’t impress. After all, Vincent Vance is soone who is used to gourt food.
She smiled sheepishly and said casually, "I’ll just help out a bit, assist here and there. I’m not great at cooking."
"That’s okay, the Eldest Master Vance likes you so much, he’ll love whatever you make."
Encouraged by the servants, May bravely cooked up so scrambled eggs with tomatoes and placed them on the table.
She had just brought out the scrambled eggs with tomatoes when she saw Vincent and Jacob Jennings coming out from the study.
"Jacob, would you like to join us for a al?" May thought Jacob wasn’t an outsider, so she casually extended an invitation.
Jacob turned to look at Vincent a few tis, and seeing Vincent nod, he said, "Then let’s stay and eat together."
"Sure." Jacob nodded in surprise and then joined Vincent at the dining table.
Once the servant had arranged the dishes, Jacob continued to pick from the plate of scrambled eggs with tomatoes in front of him, frowning as he thought to himself, did Zenith Villa change chefs? How did the food beco so bad?
He practically took a sip of soup for every bite of the dish, and while he hadn’t eaten much, he had already downed a large bowl of soup.
"Jacob, why are you sticking to those scrambled eggs with tomatoes? Are they that delicious?"
Seeing Jacob repeatedly eating the dish she’d cooked, May asked him excitedly.
Jacob frowned and forced a laugh, "They’re... alright. The chef at the master’s house is internationally renowned, so the food is naturally good."
"What? I cooked that dish, what does it have to do with the chef?" May heard this and imdiately corrected him, a bit displeased.
Realizing the dish was made by his own wife, Vincent imdiately shot a furious glare at Jacob, as if eating the dish his wife cooked was a capital offense.
Jacob wished he could get rid of the plate of oversalted scrambled eggs with tomatoes in front of him. Seeing Vincent glaring at him, he respectfully offered the dish to the Eldest Master Vance for him to taste.
"Madam, I didn’t know this was your cooking. And I must say, the taste is quite... distinctive."
Jacob held back his laughter while eyeing Vincent, who was reluctantly taking the scrambled eggs with tomatoes into his mouth, and lied through his teeth.
Sure enough, after Vincent took a bite from May’s dish, he said nothing. He quickly turned and grabbed the adjacent bowl of soup, gulping down a bowlful.
"How is it? Master, isn’t the dish made by Madam delicious?"
Serves you right for glaring at , as if I ate your divine nectar. Now, how does your own choice feel? You’ve married her, and you have to take care of her no matter what.
"It’s... okay!"
Vincent shot a furious glance at the gloating Jacob, and then instructed the nearby servant, "Assistant Jennings finally gets to eat at ho. Since he likes this dish so much, serve it to him. He can’t leave the table unless he finishes it."
Watching their hesitant actions, May imdiately sensed sothing was off. Just as the servant was about to serve the dish in front of Jacob, May suddenly stood up and took the dish to her own place.
"Does it taste bad? Why are you pushing it around?" May picked up the chopsticks and tried a bite, and then there was no then.
Alright, she’s simply not cut out for cooking and shouldn’t have tried to be helpful in the kitchen, making a spectacle of herself.
After eating a few bites, May, feeling a bit deflated, went upstairs to lie down. She had hoped to please Vincent, but things didn’t turn out that way...
Vincent opened the door and entered, seeing her lying on the bed, he reached out and patted her little head, comforting her, "Don’t be disheartened, if you can’t, then you can’t. It’s not like I can’t support you. Isn’t there a servant at ho to do these things?"
"I used to be able to cook, you know. I rember my mom telling how good my cooking was." May pulled Vincent’s arm closer and rested her head on it, sighing repeatedly, "Why am I so useless now?"
"Useless is useless, it won’t change how I feel. Isn’t it enough just for you to perform well at night?"
"Oh, you’re just always thinking about those troubleso things. I’ve really been made useless by you. If you were to kick out, I’d have nowhere to turn!"
"How could that be? I already said, as long as you never betray , I’ll never abandon you, forever!" Vincent leaned down and kissed May’s forehead, solemnly promising her.
This was his second ti promising he wouldn’t abandon her, and also the second ti ntioning the word betrayal.
May could perceive that Vincent seed exceptionally sensitive to the word ’betrayal,’ and it made her worry. If one day she did betray him, what would he do to her?
"If I accidentally betrayed you one day, would you forgive ?" May asked worriedly, looking up into Vincent’s eyes.
Vincent paused, and the fingers resting on May’s silky hair montarily stiffened.
"I would..."
"You’re generous, but I don’t think I would be." Thinking of lanie and her father’s actions, May felt she couldn’t forgive them.
Vincent looked down at May, "You wouldn’t? How would you choose to deal with those who betray you?"
May tilted her head to think, then seriously replied, "If my sister did to again, I would surely repay her double. I’d let her know I’m not soone to be trifled with. As for my father, since he’s disowned , I won’t care for him in the future."
"That’s relatively rciful." Vincent continued stroking May’s hair, while an inconspicuous cold glint lingered in his eyes.
"rciful? I was even wondering if I should scratch my sister’s face so she wouldn’t ever want to show herself again." May hesitated, then looked at Vincent apologetically, "Am I being too malicious?"
"No way, I think you’re quite rciful." Vincent laughed, though the wickedness in his eyes deepened.
"If it were you, how would you deal with them?"
"?" Vincent paused for a while before saying quietly, "I don’t know. Anyway, those who’ve wronged are already dead."
For a mont, May didn’t grasp the depth of Vincent’s words. But suddenly she rembered that Vincent’s parents had passed away many years ago, and rushed to sit up and apologize, "I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have asked you that. I forgot your parents died a long ti ago."
Vincent reached out to touch her impeccably smooth cheek, filled with affection and pity, "It’s okay, don’t I have you now?"
