"In my eyes, lanie is nothing but a wench. Why would I bend the rules for her? Am I crazy?" Vincent Vance argued, looking exasperated.

"Hmph, and Adam is ancient history to . So why do you keep suspecting that there’s sothing between us?" May Morgan seized the opportunity to settle old scores with Vincent.

This ti, Vincent was genuinely at a loss for words.

He found it puzzling how won could hold grudges so easily. So much ti had passed since then. He’d said it casually back then, but here she was, capable of rembering it for a millennium.

"Okay, okay, my bad, my bad. Will that do? I won’t suspect anything between you and Adam anymore, and you stop suspecting anything between and lanie. Deal?" Vincent was defeated by May, reluctantly admitting defeat.

"That’s more like it. From now on, if you dare say anything about Adam and , I’ll ntion you and lanie. Let’s see who outdoes whom then."

"I never touched lanie..."

"And I’m just as innocent with Adam! You were my first, rember?"

"But you guys must have kissed, right?"

"And I bet you and lanie have had physical contact?"

"..."

Alright, Vincent resignedly realized again that in argunts with won, n can never win, because they always find your soft spot and magnify it a hundred, a thousand tis to attack you!

Once he finally coaxed the little ancestor into eating and sent her upstairs to rest, Vincent quickly summoned the bodyguard ntioned by May and interrogated him thoroughly.

"I heard you saw lanie at the Morgan Family house. Can you confirm that?" This was no trivial matter. Although lanie was a minor character, the patriarch backed her. Hence, everything had to be ticulously prepared. What if they rashly seized her and fell into the patriarch’s trap?

The bodyguard had initially ntioned it casually, thinking it was no big deal to tell May. But now that Vincent was questioning him, he had to deliberate before responding.

"I... I’m not entirely sure. When I went there, I indeed saw a woman’s silhouette on the second floor. Thinking there weren’t many people at the Morgan Family house, I told the young madam it was Miss lanie."

Vincent’s face darkened as he sternly questioned him, "So, you didn’t actually see the woman’s face?"

The bodyguard didn’t dare be vague, cautiously replied, "No, I didn’t see her face. The woman appeared in a flash; I really had no chance to see her face. Master, why... why are you asking about this?"

Vincent didn’t answer, simply pondering for a while, before instructing him, "I have a task for you. Go to the Morgan Family entrance with your n and keep watch. If anyone cos out from inside, make sure to take a picture for . Rember, anyone at all, including their maid or any n."

"Yes, Master. We’ll head over there right away." Hearing this, the bodyguard didn’t dare delay; he quickly took another subordinate and drove to the Morgan Family to stakeout.

After dispatching the two bodyguards, Vincent frowned, thought for a bit, then picked up his phone to call Jacob Jennings.

"Jacob, have you arrived in Crestwood?" He calculated Jacob’s itinerary and figured he should have arrived by now, so he asked.

"Just got here. I just t with Director Lawson. He told they’d already searched that mountain, including the house on it, but found no valuable clues. The house appears to have been long uninhabited. They’ve also checked out the basent lanie ntioned, and there was nothing peculiar there. Director took so photos on site and will send them over for you to check out."

"Alright, let’s talk on the computer then."

After hanging up, Vincent went to the second-floor study. Once he turned on the computer, Jacob had already sent over the pictures. Vincent opened them and saw an ancient-style courtyard, with stone walls and buildings, and the overgrown weeds and fallen leaves in the yard indeed indicated long-term vacancy.

He then opened the basent photos, only seeing a stone table, a few vats, and nothing of further value. As Director Lawson ntioned, there was nothing special, almost indistinguishable from a typical mountain residence layout.

How could such a place house such peculiar people? But if that woman didn’t reside there, why were they attacked that night so coincidentally?

"By the way, has lanie’s body been found?" After looking through the photos, Vincent hurriedly ssaged Jacob for an update.

Jacob had just asked Director about lanie, and planned to discuss it in detail with Vincent, so he took the chance to explain.

"Director ntioned lanie earlier today and said they’d dispatched people to search nearby mountains and found no remains at all, nor any clothing or accessories matching lanie’s. He suspects lanie might not be dead."

Seeing Jacob’s ssage, Vincent felt even more assured about what May had told him. It seed that the woman seen by the bodyguard at the Morgan Family was indeed lanie.

In that case, he should quickly bring that woman over for a proper interrogation; otherwise, if he waited until he visited the patriarch, it might be too late to act.

"Got it. Rest well, I’m logging off too!" Vincent pondered grabbing lanie, so he didn’t chat much with Jacob. After turning off the computer, he exited the study.

He first peeked into the bedroom to check on May, saw her intently reading a comic book, and thought about it. He went in to discuss, "I just talked to Jacob. Director told him they hadn’t found lanie’s body, so it’s possible she’s still alive sowhere."

Upon hearing this, May suddenly jolted upright on the bed with adrenaline, eager to join Vincent in catching the person. "What are we waiting for? The woman the bodyguard saw at the Morgan Family must be lanie!"

Seeing her all ready to go, Vincent quickly pressed her back into bed, making her lie down again. "Did you forget our agreent?"

May sheepishly smiled, scratching her head while explaining to Vincent, "I’m just anxious to catch lanie. Don’t worry, I won’t cause trouble. As long as you help catch her, I promise to stay ho obediently and not go anywhere."

Vincent tapped her little forehead, teasingly smiling, "That’s more like it. Don’t worry, I’ll take people to catch your sister soon, and I’ll video the whole thing for you. This ti, we won’t let her escape!"

"Hehe, I trust you. You don’t even like lanie, so why would I suspect you’d bend the rules for her?"

"Yet you said that about earlier, you little rascal!" Vincent playfully pinched May’s nose, reminding her once more, "Rember not to leave the house, okay? I’ll be back in a bit; nothing will happen."
