As the heated discussions carried on in the main hall of the Liu clan, one person slipped away to find solace in a smaller courtyard nearby. This hidden gem was a far cry from the lavish courtyards that adorned the rest of the Liu residence. Simple and unassuming, it featured a worn cobblestone path leading to a peaceful space surrounded by ancient maple trees, their rustling leaves adding to the tranquil atmosphere. The gentle scent of jasmine filled the air, its vines reaching up and adorning the weathered trellises along the walls.

The roof tiles, once a vibrant terracotta, were now muted and showing signs of age. So were cracked and chipped from years of exposure to the elents, while moss had taken root in between, infusing patches of green into the earthy tones.

The terrace itself bore evidence of ti passing, with smooth stones intermingled with rougher patches where footsteps had left their mark. Wild and carefully manicured plants frad the courtyard, with bamboo stalks swaying alongside ticulously pruned bonsai trees.

Nestled in the heart of this unassuming abode was a solitary shelter, humble yet inviting. Inside, one could find simple elegance at its finest. The soft glow of paper lanterns radiated throughout the room, casting a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

Tinted windows added to the ambiance, filtering sunlight in and creating ever-changing patterns of light and shadow. The detailed door fras depicted ancient legends and forgotten tales through intricate designs of dragons and phoenixes.

The furniture within the dwelling combined rustic charm with delicate artistry. A wooden table with lifelike carvings of lilies adorned its surface, each petal and leaf carefully etched into the wood.

Three matching chairs, equally ornate, ford a visually striking dining set that seed almost too grand for such a humble space. Seated elegantly at one of these chairs was Lady Chen Xi, her full attention focused on the parchnt before her.

Amidst the peaceful solitude of her chambers, Lady Chen Xi devoted herself to studying an ancient parchnt given to her by her long-deceased master. The scroll was a treasured gift from a man who had achieved the illustrious Soul Severing stage, a feat that most Nascent Soul practitioners could only dream of.

Clad in a flowing blue gown that resembled the clear midday sky, Lady Chen Xi emanated an aura of grace and elegance. Her every movent was as fluid and srizing as a dancer's, befitting of her status as the Matriarch of the clan. Sparkling sapphire earrings adorned her lobes, catching the light and enhancing her stunning appearance. Despite her breathtaking presence, she remained secluded and imrsed in her solitary task.

Following a heated dispute with her husband, Liu Feng, Lady Chen Xi had chosen to retreat to one of the simple guest lodgings. This decision shocked the attendants who oversaw the courtyard, for it was unusual for their beloved Matriarch to reside in such humble surroundings, far away from the opulence she was accustod to. But in this quiet sanctuary, Lady Chen Xi found solace and clarity amidst the chaos of her inner turmoil.

The path to achieving the Immortal Soul was a treacherous one, requiring the cultivation of an earth-grade technique to its peak and then forcibly elevating it to a heaven-grade level. But that was only the beginning. The true challenge lay in comprehending at least twenty mysteries of the human body, a feat that demanded unparalleled insight and understanding.

As Lady Chen Xi poured over her master's writings, her frustration turned into seething anger. The words seed to taunt and mock her, their true aning always just out of reach. She clenched her fists in frustration, her heart heavy with desperation.

"How can I hope to break through this bottleneck if I cannot even decipher these teachings?" she raged inwardly. "I have sacrificed countless hours, days, and years, yet the path remains shrouded in mist. My ultimate goal is to transcend the Nascent Soul realm, but without unlocking these mysteries, I am dood to fail."

Her mind was consud with conflicting emotions as she thought about her recent actions. Her flirtations and affairs with Li Wei had not been driven by purely physical desires or infidelity, but rather by a desperate need to break through her bottleneck.

She believed that he held the key, whether it be a thod or elixir, to unlock her full potential. This obsession had overtaken her thoughts, overshadowing not only her reputation but also her husband's feelings.

Lost in her thoughts, she was interrupted by a knock on the door. Irritation flashed across her face as she called out, "Who is it?"

"It's , mother," ca the voice of her daughter, Liu i.

Lady Chen Xi let out a heavy sigh and carefully folded the notes she had been studying before getting up from her chair. As she turned her attention to the door, she couldn't help but feel torn between wanting to confide in her daughter and shielding her from the truth.

"Co in," Lady Chen Xi said, urging her daughter to enter her quiet dwelling.

Liu i cautiously entered the room, her eyes scanning the modest surroundings before settling on her mother. She wanted to approach her with ease, but she could already feel the tension in the air. "Father is worried about you," she began hesitantly. "He didn't expect you to seclude yourself like this."

Lady Chen Xi's face hardened as she waved a dismissive hand. "Your father and I have our disagreents. This is sothing I must do for myself." Her attitude did little to stop Liu i from speaking up.

Liu i nodded, understanding her mother's stubbornness all too well. But deep down, she couldn't shake off the feeling that there must be so other way to convince her. "I know you seek sothing important in those writings, but perhaps there's another way," she suggested tentatively.

Her mother's expression remained unchanged, her resolve firm. "This is the path I must follow, Liu i. The breakthrough I seek is my greatest ambition. I will not be deterred." Lady Chen Xi clearly had no intention of shifting her stance on the matter.

'I will not just leave things as they are...' The silence in the room was suffocating, filled with unspoken frustration and regret. Liu i couldn't help but trace her fingers along the intricate carvings on the table, trying to find solace in their familiarity.

"It's not fair, mother," she finally spoke up, unable to contain her emotions any longer.

"Why must you and father constantly be at odds with each other? It's because of that vile man, Li Wei!" The young girl's voice grew hoarse, as her resentnt for Li Wei had reached a boiling point

Lady Chen Xi's face twisted in frustration, a rare emotion to be seen on her composed features. "You have no idea what sacrifices I had to make to get where I am today, child. There is no room for weakness or indulgence if you want to achieve your desires."

Liu i's heart sank as she listened to her mother's harsh words, " What are you saying mother?" The poor girl nearly shed tears upon hearing the words uttered by her mother. Was this the price of success? To beco cold and unfeeling?

Lady Chen Xi's eyes softened as she gazed at her daughter, a mix of love and sadness in her expression. "My dear Liu i perhaps... perhaps I have sacrificed too much, but these are the sacrifices that must be made on the path we choose to walk. The choices we make today shape our future tomorrow. And sotis, these choices may lead us down different paths than those we had initially envisioned."

Liu i looked at her mother, a glimr of panic dawning in her eyes. "Are you saying that the path you are on now... it may lead you away from Father?"

Liu i shook her head, unable to comprehend her mother's words. She had always believed that her parents' love was unbreakable. What would happen if their paths diverged?

Lady Chen Xi's words were filled with utter conviction, but her daughter could sense the underlying hesitation in her tone. "The dreams and goals I hold dear may cause rifts to form where they shouldn't," she said quietly, her eyes betraying the conflicting emotions within her. "Our decisions today shape our future tomorrow, and sotis they lead us down paths we never intended."

Her mother's gaze remained fixed on the window, avoiding Liu i's piercing stare as she continued, "The pursuit of power and enlightennt demands sacrifices that others may not understand. Your father's concerns are valid, but I cannot let his fears dictate my path."

The room fell silent once again, as Lady Chen Xi returned to studying the parchnt in front of her. Liu i watched in both admiration and disgust, struggling to reconcile the weight of her mother's words with her own desires.
