The air was as still as death.

Everyone stared dumbfounded at the corpse on the ground.

Shock, anger, and even a hint of fear crept into their eyes.

Chen Bingjiang's smile had vanished, and his deanor had turned sinister, like a wild beast ready to pounce at any mont.

Yet a look of admiration flashed in Xu Lin's eyes. Experience exclusive tales on empire

But the n behind him were shaking all over with fear.

So were even praying silently, hoping the enraged beast wouldn't turn its rage on them.

Zhang Ye acted as if nothing had happened, tossing Huang Mao's body and his two companions in front, then he looked up at the fat man upstairs.

"Sorry about that, Brother Chen,"

"I went a bit too hard, accidentally killed one."

"Do you still want this guy?"

Initially, Chen Bingjiang didn't say a word but simply squinted his eyes, staring intently at him for several minutes before he slowly spoke,

"If you want the generator,"

"you can co up anyti to see ."

"Oh, and by the way, inside the building has been a bit unsafe lately, you'd better be careful."

After he said that, he turned and left.

His two subordinates exchanged looks, quickly picked up the n and the corpse from the ground, and followed him.

The stairwell instantly beca much more spacious.

As the footsteps from above gradually faded away, soone let out a soft sigh of relief.

Zhang Ye turned his head and saw that it was Xu Lin.

He couldn't help but chuckle to himself.

It seed this stoic police supervisor wasn't as composed as he thought.

"You almost got us all killed, do you realize that?"

Before Xu Lin could speak, a man behind him imdiately began to scold Zhang Ye.

His forehead was covered in cold sweat, clearly scared out of his wits.

His short-sleeve shirt was soaked through.

"Xiao Zhou,"

Xu Lin imdiately frowned, intending to stop him.

But this young man nad Xiao Zhou had no intention of stopping, continuing to point at Zhang Ye and scold:

"Brother Xu, am I wrong?"

"Does he think he can confront Chen Bingjiang just because he has a few n?"

"When he leaves with a pat on his butt, are we and Boss Zheng supposed to bear the consequences?"

The others originally wanted to stop him, but after hearing this, they all fell silent and looked at Zhang Ye and his group with unfriendly eyes.

He was just a naïve kid after all, with no understanding of the business world.

Xu Lin seed a bit angry and was about to scold him.

But just as he opened his mouth, two screams suddenly ca from outside, followed by several thuds of heavy objects hitting the ground.

Bang, bang, bang.

Everyone's expression shifted in unison.

Xu Lin hurriedly led Zhang Ye and the others out of the stairwell and looked out of a nearby window.

They saw two sedans that had been smashed flat, and on their dented roofs lay three bodies, reduced to a pulp.

The surrounding zombies sward over like locusts and quickly devoured the bodies on the cars.

Only three bloodied heads and a few rib bones remained.

Ai Bing's face lost all color.

What she saw before her exceeded every conception she had of the current world.

The life inside the dormitory building was heaven compared to this hell.

Had humanity grown so brutal without the constraints of law and order, in just the short span of over a month since the disaster struck?

What was even more incomprehensible and unacceptable to her was why, if the intention was to kill, did they take those three people away?

Was it simply to satisfy a desire to kill?

Surprise also flashed across Zhang Ye's eyes.

Was this a warning for him?

Or for Xu Lin?

Or perhaps, it was just to intimidate those subordinates making moves behind the scenes, like Huang Mao and his two companions?

Xu Lin's n were on the verge of tears.

This is bad, thoroughly offended now.

Damn kid!

It's all your fault!

Zhou gritted his teeth as he glared at Zhang Ye, the aning in his expression was more than clear.

He nearly had anger and disgust plastered all over his face.

Xu Lin fell silent for a mont, and when he turned his head to look at Zhang Ye again, his eyes held a new resolve, and his expression returned to normal.

"Let's go."

"Have a look inside."

"I might also have a generator here."

Zhang Ye nodded, then followed him inside, while Wang Hu and Du Chao beside him pushed past the n blocking their way and followed suit.

The two didn't take these people seriously at all.

Twenty bodyguards followed closely behind, forming a semicircle to enclose Zhang Ye and the others in the middle.

The fourth floor was littered with traces of vandalism and looting.

On the sleek floor tiles, survivors lay everywhere, sleeping in their clothes, with sallow complexions.

The shops on both sides were no longer bustling with activity, looking desolate and empty, with chairs and tables moved outside to serve as beds.

Seeing Xu Lin return with a group of strangers quickened the gaze of many onlookers.

Their eyes suddenly brightened upon noticing the uniforms of the bodyguards.

Police badges?

"Are you guys from the Security Bureau?"

"Are you here to rescue us?"

"That's great!"

Imdiately, several people excitedly ran over.

Each one of them had a look of anticipation, grabbing onto the bodyguards' arms without letting go, and so even waved so form of ID in the air on the spot.

As for the faint stench on the bodyguards, it was completely ignored by these people.

Who doesn't have a sll these days?

Water is almost unobtainable; who would expect to use precious water resources for bathing?

If anyone dared to do that, they'd probably be drowned on the spot with the bathing water by other survivors parched with thirst.

But unexpectedly, things took a turn very quickly.

The bodyguards instantaneously went into defense mode.

The survivors who had grabbed their arms were pushed away, and before they could get up, the tough riot shields were already in front.

In less than ten seconds, the twenty bodyguard zombies had completely blocked off the crowd outside.

The shields and their bodies ford a tight wall.

Just like when they encountered Xu Lin.

Xu Lin imdiately tensed up, instinctively reaching for his gun, but his body was already being lifted by Wang Hu and Du Chao.

The two looked fierce, seizing the person and disarming him in one swift motion.

"What are you doing?"

"Let go of Inspector Xu imdiately!"

The dozen or so n behind, seeing this, hurried forward brandishing their weapons and shouted, each looking anxious and occasionally showing a hint of panic.

Soon, all the survivors on the fourth floor had gathered around.

Noise filled the air.

Zhang Ye stared dumbfounded at the crowd outside, then at Xu Lin, who was being held with a gloomy expression, and felt a stampede of chaos in his mind.

Ai Qing, you really put in a difficult position!

This fourth floor!

I really don't want it!

After his initial surprise, he quickly understood what had happened, looking at Xu Lin with resignation in his eyes.

"I said I'm not here to take over your territory."

"Do you believe ?"

The other party remained silent.

The whole process just now was as smooth as eating Dove chocolate.

As an inspector with over ten years of experience, he had never seen a team with such perfect coordination.

Now to say it wasn't intentional?

Who would believe that?
