The corner was cluttered with a dozen human skeletons.

One of the corpses had its entire lower body torn off, leaving only the waist up recognizable as human, yet even this half-body was still slightly moving.

The bloodied eye sockets were full of yellow and black thick liquid, revealing a hole the size of a walnut.

The other eye was still bloodshot.

Filled with madness and bloodlust.

The half-bodied zombie occasionally swung its one arm as if trying to support itself off the ground, but without legs, no matter how hard it tried, it could only crawl on the ground.

The stench of blood quickly attracted movents lurking beneath the ground.

The ajar manhole cover was suddenly flipped open.

A pointed head erged.

The filthy fur slightly glistening under the light, the round eyes twinkling with a crazy yet cunning look.

The Mutant Rat sniffed the air for a few seconds, then suddenly burrowed out completely.

Its body, over half a ter long, was covered in sludge.

And carried a stench.

It quickly spotted its prey less than five ters away.

After a few tentative steps forward, the Mutated Rat seed to realize that its prey had no ability to move or resist, so it decisively screeched with a shrill voice.

Soon, several more Mutated Rats of different sizes erged from the sewer.

The swarm of rats quickly surrounded the still-struggling zombie.

They then began to feed.

The zombie, missing its lower body, was like a bag without a closure, its intestines and innards were quickly torn out by several rats.

Its sharp teeth still snapped together but couldn't reach its enemies before it.

The only remaining arm was also gnawed off at the root.

Like sugarcane being eaten, the crunching sounds of the rats feasting on the corpse soon echoed in the alley, only to be suddenly silenced by a loud explosion.

A homade bomb thrown from outside blasted the corpse to pieces.

Amidst the flying chunks of flesh, several shadows had already pounced.

Then there were several gunshots.

The body was shot midair, landing on the ground half-dissolved.

The man who walked in from outside imdiately sighed with regret, "Ah, I say, should we consider switching to a different gun next ti we go out?"

His gaze lingered among the pieces of flesh scattered on the ground.

It looked rather regretful.

"A single shot and the body is ruined."

"What a waste."

Two others who followed him also took in the scene in the corner, and one of them nodded, saying:

"Indeed, it's a bit of a waste."

"That's at, after all."

"If we took it back, we could probably sell it to those butchers for a dozen or so bucks."

But the other, a lean man in his thirties, showed no such regret and kept a grim expression with a combat-ready posture.

"We are on a mission right now."

"Stay cautious."

Ding Zhixiong carefully observed the surroundings and reminded aloud.

"Catching rats is a task for the Hunter Squad."

"Not for the Combat Departnt."

Upon hearing this, the other two exchanged a resigned look, muttering to themselves that their team leader was as rigid as ever.

anwhile, outside, two pickup trucks were parked by the side of the road, with so of the team still on guard.

The three stepped over the chunks of flesh and began inspecting the skeletons in the corner, but found no clothing remnants that could indicate an identity.

"Team leader, there's nothing here."

"They're probably all zombies, not the people we're looking for."

The man in charge of the inspection quickly looked up and spoke.

Another man looked at Ding Zhixiong, obviously waiting for the commander of the first action group of the Combat Departnt to issue an order.

Ding Zhixiong, upon hearing these words, stepped forward to check again.

The pile of skeletons contained only a few rags.

They didn't look like company uniforms.

A trace of disappointnt flashed in his eyes as he sighed, stood up, and walked out, "It seems that they're indeed not here."

"Let's check other places."

As the three of them stepped out of the alley, they could clearly see a comrcial building that towered over thirty stories high at the exit.

That was the landmark building of Jiangnan District in Sanjiang City, the Rongda Tower.

And their current location was precisely in Jiangnan District.

Near Qixing Road.

Heading west from here for about an hour would bring them to the city center.

The people in the vehicle saw the trio erge and imdiately looked at them with questioning faces, but before they could ask, they were inford to head to the next target point.

But Ding Zhixiong had just boarded the vehicle when he heard soone calling him over the radio in front.

"Hello?"

"Can you hear ?"

He imdiately picked up the walkie-talkie and responded, "This is Ding Zhixiong, how's the situation on your end?"

A few days earlier, so employees from the Market Intelligence Departnt had gone missing in Jiangnan District, so soon after returning from the hospital, Ding Zhixiong imdiately received a new mission.

Go to Jiangnan District to find the missing intelligence departnt employees, and if they are trapped, try to rescue them.

If they are already dead, at least bring back the bodies or identity proofs.

The company would give a uniform burial to the fallen employees and register them to prevent anyone from secretly claiming resources under the na of the deceased.

Since recruitnt was involved, they couldn't make too much noise.

So Ding Zhixiong only brought a small team from his own group. Including him, there were twenty-one people and a total of four modified pickup trucks.

After entering Jiangnan District, the team split into two groups to act separately.

The one on the other end of the walkie-talkie now was the second group.

"Team leader, we are now under the highway on the east side."

"You'd better co and see."

"Sothing happened."

The mont Ding Zhixiong heard these words, his heart sank, and he quickly asked for the exact location. Then he ordered his n to drive there as fast as possible.

To avoid wasting ti on the road, he decisively ordered,

"If you encounter a horde of corpses or other enemies blocking the road, try to bypass them."

"Don't get entangled with them too much."

But the roads in the city were already congested.

Even with detours, it would take a lot of ti, and by the ti they reached the entrance to the highway on the east side, it was nearing evening.

The people from the second group were waiting in a secluded corner with their vehicles.

After the et-up, Ding Zhixiong imdiately asked, "What on earth happened? Did we find the targets of this operation?"

However, the leader of the second group shook his head, then led him towards a building on the side.

This was a civilian residential building constructed along the roadside.

It had seven floors.

Cool breeze blew on the rooftop terrace.

The zombies in the stairwell had already been cleared out by the second group, so it didn't take long for the two to go up, though it was sowhat physically demanding.

Initially puzzled, Ding Zhixiong's eyes widened the mont he left the stairwell.

His pupils were filled with shock.

There seed to be sothing hanging on the distant overpass, at least ten ters long, looking like a truck.

Is this...

A military heavy truck?

No, that's wrong, this damn thing is an armored vehicle!
