Chapter 5: Is Playing Hard to Get This Useful?

Chu Yuwei’s father was nad Chu Xiong.

He was the Chief of the Linjiang City Police Departnt.

At the sa ti, he was also a seasoned veteran detective.

As soon as they entered the interview room, Jiang Zhou recounted everything he knew about Wang Dahai’s location in great detail. He even sketched a rough map on paper.

After hearing his description, Chu Xiong imdiately recognized that this was a real lead.

Because according to previous investigations, Wang Dahai had indeed gone missing in that area.

The police had already conducted a thorough search of the area before, but ca up with nothing new.

Who would have thought he’d be hiding in an abandoned radish cellar in a deserted village?

No wonder they couldn’t find anything on the ground, it was underground.

Chu Xiong glanced at Jiang Zhou and couldn’t help but develop a better impression of him.

Most students wouldn’t even dare to call 110, let alone report a cri.

He could’ve easily stayed out of it, since the case had nothing to do with him personally.

But instead, he took the initiative to provide such a critical lead.

This was a huge contribution not just to the victims’ families and Linjiang City, but to society as a whole.

“By the way, officer…”

Chu Xiong looked up. “What is it, young man?”

Jiang Zhou gave an embarrassed cough. “If you guys catch Wang Dahai, does that an I’ll get the 500,000 reward?”

“……” Hearing that, Chu Xiong’s favorable impression vanished instantly.

He had just been praising this kid for having a sense of social responsibility. It turned out it was all for the money.

That completely changed the nature of things.

If this guy wanted to date his daughter, Chu Xiong would absolutely say no.

“If the arrest is successful, we’ll fulfill our promise. Even if not, you’ll still receive 50,000 for providing the lead.”

Jiang Zhou visibly relaxed. “That’s great! Wishing you a successful mission, officer!”

anwhile…

Chu Yuwei sat in the main hall, looking extrely anxious.

Her mind was a ss, her eyes filled with worry.

Am I afraid dad would scold ?

Or am I worried Jiang Zhou might get detained for filing a false report?

Probably the forr. I wouldn’t really concerned about that guy… right?

But then again, wasn’t he doing all this because he liked ? Should I speak up for him?

But if I really did that, would my dad misunderstand and think I am dating?

Her expression was full of frustration and helplessness.

At Chengnan High, countless boys chased after her.

Every one of them was careful to cater to her whims.

She said go east, no one dared go west. They were all extrely obedient.

Who else but Jiang Zhou could be this ridiculous?

After getting rejected, he actually went straight to her father?

It was the first ti in Chu Yuwei’s life that she felt so at a loss.

Just then, she noticed the previously quiet police station suddenly erupt into action.

Police vehicles poured out of the station, sirens blaring, racing westward.

Chu Yuwei stood up and found a familiar officer.

“Uncle Xiao Liu, what’s going on?”

“Oh, Yuwei, nothing big. We’re just responding to a case.”

“Why so many officers?”

Officer Liu nodded. “There’s been a major breakthrough in a city-wide homicide case. Your dad might earn another rit this ti.”

A major homicide case?

Could it be the one Jiang Zhou ntioned?

No way.

He is just a regular high school student.

How could he possibly solve a murder case?

Chu Yuwei tried to stop her imagination from running wild.

All she wanted was for Jiang Zhou to co to his senses and leave the station as soon as possible.

Just as she thought that, Jiang Zhou ca strolling down the stairs into the lobby looking… cheerful?

He was even humming a tune!

Did he not realize that filing a false report could land him in jail?

This guy, was he really this reckless just for her?

Luckily, the station suddenly got busy, otherwise he definitely would’ve been detained.

Chu Yuwei hurried up to him.

“You… you’re okay?”

Jiang Zhou glanced at her. “Why wouldn’t I be?”

“My dad didn’t detain you?”

“I provided a valid lead, not a false report. No one’s detaining .”

Chu Yuwei lowered her head. “Oh, I see. Well… you can leave now.”

“Okay. Bye.”

“You… you’re really leaving?”

Jiang Zhou didn’t answer.

He just walked out of the police station, got on his bike, and rode away.

He didn’t hesitate, didn’t look back. Not even once.

It was as if the girl standing behind him was soone he didn’t even know.

As if the person he’d been desperate to pursue just yesterday… was soone entirely different.

But Chu Yuwei stood frozen, staring in the direction he’d left.

Only now did she realize that he ca to the police station for sothing that had nothing to do with her.

He really was here to report a case.

That’s why he left so cleanly, without the slightest attachnt.

So… the police deploynt earlier was because of him?

What the hell is going on?

Yesterday, he’d been groveling to be with her, saying he couldn’t live without her.

But today, it was like she didn’t exist to him.

Was he just playing from the start?

Jerk!

Chu Yuwei felt so wronged she wanted to cry.

She had just, in a mont of desperation, agreed to date him.

But he turned her down.

She’d thought it was all just so reverse-psychology strategy.

But now… maybe he really wasn’t interested in her.

“Look, Jiang Zhou’s out. No sign of the school beauty though.”

“Duh, her dad probably scared him off. He must’ve slinked away with his tail between his legs.”

“What an idiot. Couldn’t even get the girl, and still had to et her dad.”

“If it were , I’d dig a hole and hide in it.”

Amidst the classmates’ mocking, Jiang Zhou gave a slight smile.

Once the suspect was arrested, that 500,000 yuan would be his.

That would beco the seed money for his startup — the start of his new life.

As for Chu Yuwei?

She could think whatever she wanted.

He’d made it clear that he wasn’t interested.

And in three months, he would et the person he really wanted to marry.

Jiang Zhou humd a tune as he biked back to Shengze Jiayuan.

Just as he parked, he noticed Chu Yuwei had posted a ssage on social dia: “Why can’t I read you?”

Within three seconds, a swarm of simps flooded the comnt section:

“Goddess, I’m easy to read. Read instead!”

“Goddess, I’m a blank page, write anything you like.”

“Yuwei, no need to read , I’ll understand you instead.”

Jiang Zhou laughed for a while.

Then he opened the comnts and left one of his own: “Damn, this is so deep. I don’t get it at all.”
