968: Chapter 85: The Demigod’s Inner Circle 968: Chapter 85: The Demigod’s Inner Circle “But back then, I didn’t know such a thing.” Snape’s aged face broke into a childlike grin as he spoke, “At that ti, your grandfather to was just an exceedingly ordinary man, who would concoct excuses to slip away with to the Lake of Light at night for a romantic affair, hide at my place because of scratches on his back and not dare to go ho, argue over whose house to dine at in the evening, give each other the silent treatnt for days over a debate about whether Miss Carin’s or Miss Winnie’s perfu was more seductive, and slam the table and roar in anger over who drank the treasured wine from the other’s cellar.
Then, just such an ordinary good friend, suddenly one day, when I had just finalised a deal and returned to my City of Knowledge villa, tells that he’s ascended to be a demigod.
Heh, my initial reaction was to think that this new prank was not the slightest bit funny, but to my surprise, he excitedly pulled into his Inherent Psychic Domain.
That really astonished , for half an hour I was so shocked I couldn’t utter a single word, heh, my mind was in complete turmoil, utterly incapable of thought, not to ntion speaking any coherent language.”
“So, you’ve been inside my grandfather’s Psychic Domain,” Catherine said.
“What was it like?
Please tell , I once asked my father, but not even he knows, I reckon my grandmother might not know either, otherwise she would’ve told my father.”
“I don’t know, I’ve forgotten.” Snape’s voice suddenly sounded strange, and Catherine, surprised, turned to look at the old man, who was tilting his head back, gazing at the pale blue sky for a long, long ti before finally taking a deep breath and lowering his head, his voice returning to normal, “It’s been too long, I can hardly recall anymore.”
Catherine’s gaze flickered over the old man’s wrinkled face, considerately deciding not to press any further.
Instead, she gently took the old man’s arm, leaned her head on his shoulder, and consoled him with a tight embrace for the pain in his heart.
Snape gave a weak smile and patted the hand of the young girl wrapped around his own, continuing to speak, “My investnt in your grandfather paid off in a way I never could have imagined, I never dread that I would have the opportunity to be in touch with that circle so soon.
In the few years after he beca a half-god mage, he quickly got in contact with that special community, a group often only assimilated by demigods, and I, following him, also continuously got the chance to interact with people of that group.
I think, without his guidance, I would probably never have had the opportunity to truly touch this small circle that doesn’t really seem to exist yet does indeed exist.
I reckon, this experience, you must resonate with deeply too.”
“Yes, although demigods are just ordinary beings in the mortal realm as well, and experience joy, sorrow, and anger like anyone else, they do indeed live in a different world in so respects.” Catherine glanced at Pannis again, just in ti to see him being grabbed by the collar by an angry Horned Eagle Beast, tossed into the air while screaming in alarm, all the while gripping tightly onto his spoils of war – a few feathers plucked from the beast’s wings.
The Elf riders nearby glowered at the culprit who dared to bully their animal comrade.
However, due to his status as a guest of honor to the queen, they seethed in silence.
The young ladies of the adventure team helplessly stood on the deck of the Skyboat, craning their necks to watch the commotion unfold.
Only a pair of winged twins did not take sides; they simply flew beside Pannis in the sky, excitedly clapping and cheering loudly.
However, their encouragent shifted intermittently between Pannis and the Horned Eagle Beasts, leaving everyone confused about whose side they were actually on.
The chaotic scene gave the knightly girl a headache, but she couldn’t help suppressing a smirk.
She knew Marquis Snape was right.
Before she had t Pannis, or more precisely, before Pannis had revealed his identity, she could not have imagined that demigods lived lives just as ordinary and simple.
Nor did she have the opportunity to encounter these beings who stood at the apex of mortal creatures.
But once Pannis disclosed his identity, they were so easily introduced to this group and seamlessly assimilated as if it were as simple as Pannis blending into the neighborhood on Fox Street.
The young girl shook her head, saying, “It feels like they are just a small group that deeply interacts only with their own kin and friends.
It seems sowhat deliberate that they keep a distance from others and avoid too frequent contact, just as you said, without soone to guide them, others might never have the chance to be integrated into their circle.”
“Later, I heard from your grandfather that it was indeed intentional,” Snape explained.
“They say that their powers are far too great.
Even if they themselves may be reluctant, they still hold much sway within their own factions, easily influencing the direction of the entire faction with just a few words.
They believe that this is not a good thing for a faction, let alone for the Yarran World.
Moreover, once a conflict erupts between factions, there is often no room for reconciliation.
Hence, they keep their distance from their own factions, like so entering Neutral Land to remain neutral.
Those who can’t stay neutral use various ways to diminish their influence within the faction, such as adopting a parliantary system, just to avoid the ergence of personal imprints.
But it’s still not enough, so they deliberately keep themselves aloof from the masses.
Yet, sotis, just a simple word from them can still have a significant impact.”
“Why avoid it, though?” Catherine glanced again at the noisy scene.
“I think most of those demigods are quite insightful, and could pass as very competent leaders.
Oh, of course, that does not exclude the overly unique ones, like those three flying up there.”
“Heh, but they are also human.
Imagine soone like the Emperor of the Falar Empire, whose character is brutal and moronically incompetent.
That would be no good for the faction.
If such a thing did happen, the people might have a slim chance to resist, but if that person were a demigod, it would be like losing even their last hope,” Snape said.
“Therefore, they think no one can guarantee that their ideas are always right.
Even if they are right for the mont, nobody dares claim their ideas will be right for a lifeti.
Nor can anyone guarantee they won’t be biased, seeking benefits for their relatives and friends.
Just like – through your grandfather, I entered this circle and got opportunities for large-scale transactions with other races and factions, which multiplied my wealth manifold.
For those demigods, sotis they can accomplish the sa with just a look.” (To be continued.
