871: Chapter 135: Spectating Mages 871: Chapter 135: Spectating Mages “Is anyone there?” Lina shouted into the empty City Hall, but the only response was a faint echo.

The six of them had been standing at the entrance for a few minutes, but they had not encountered a single person.

“Even during a heavy rain, when everyone gets the day off to go ho, a place as crucial as the City Hall should still have soone on duty,” Catherine said, puzzled.

“In any normal city, the City Hall should never be completely unstaffed; otherwise, what would happen if there were an ergency?

Though Felic ntioned that everyone had gone ho, I never imagined that it would really be completely empty.

This must be the work of a manager deliberately sending all the duty staff away.”

“It must be an order from Master Filarx,” Freya took a step and waddled into the hall, “It seems he had already anticipated that Pannis would find out, so he temporarily dispersed all unrelated personnel to avoid any influence.”

“Does Master Filarx really have the confidence to overco Pannis?” Catherine walked up to a row of counters where the staff normally sat, glanced inside, and, seeing it still empty, turned back and said, “If he isn’t confident, why would he wait here so calmly?

If he is confident…”

“I don’t think Pannis will lose,” Vivian shook her head.

“You know what he is like.

Even if Master Filarx is stronger than Pannis in terms of power, given that fool’s characteristics, I believe the final victor will be him.”

“I think so too,” Catherine nodded.

“But Master Filarx should understand Pannis’s capabilities better than us, and he likely knows about Pannis’s traits.

Yet, he still chooses to wait here for Pannis, which really makes one doubt what his intentions might be.

Have you guys ever wondered?

The things we’ve encountered this ti, I’ve always found them strange.

There seems to be almost no resistance to our investigation; we’ve encountered no resistance at all along the way.

Of course, this could be explained by our covert movents and quick progress, but isn’t that a far-fetched explanation?”

“No one can guess that,” Freya said.

“The thoughts of these masters are probably hard for us ordinary people to understand.

Maybe there is still so plan, and perhaps in the end, we will find that all our actions were actually just part of their plan, rely guiding us to act according to it to achieve their own goals.”

“Are you serious?” After a complete round in the hall of the City Hall, and still not finding anyone, the six of them finally walked to the side of the Teleportation Array, staring blankly at the array that was not yet activated.

Hearing what Freya said, Catherine furrowed her brows and asked, “It’s not impossible, but if that’s true, his ultimate goal is just too incomprehensible.

What could it be?”

“I don’t know about that.” Freya casually pulled out a cookie and stuffed it into her mouth while Catherine wasn’t looking, but given Catherine had seen her efforts these past few days, she did not really stop her, just glared at her fiercely.

Smugly brushing off the crumbs from her hands, Freya swallowed her food before continuing, “I’m just guessing; after all, their current actions are too strange.

Only this kind of guess can kind of make sense.

Mr.

Muir, with your extensive experience, what do you think about the current situation?”

“I can’t understand it either,” Muir shook his head.

“From what I see now, Filarx’s behavior is almost like he’s collaborating with us to find him, which doesn’t make any sense, unless he has lived enough and wants to end it all.

But if he really wanted to end it all, he wouldn’t need to steal soone else’s ti, let alone formulate such an extensive plan.

Oh, it’s almost ti; let’s get ready.

Just like last ti in Dirsauren with those teleportation arrays, I’ll go in first.

If there’s no problem, I’ll teleport an item back.

If I don’t send anything back, you all need to leave imdiately.”

“Let’s hope everything goes smoothly,” Catherine sighed, watching as Muir disappeared into the Array.

But soon, an elf-crafted dagger with distinctive forging style appeared from the Teleportation Array.

Catherine gazed at the dagger for a long ti before nodding to the young girls and walking into the Teleportation Array in turn.

When she reappeared, she stood where Pannis had stood hours before, gazing at the towering Magic Tower nearby.

As soon as she stepped out of the Array, Catherine noticed that there were more people on the Floating Island than she had imagined.

Moreover, these craftsn mages, who were believed to be reluctant to leave their laboratories until death, were surprisingly seen running out of their workshops in groups of three to five, frequently looking up at the top of the Magic Tower and murmuring to each other with strange expressions.

“What’s going on?” Catherine looked around and noticed Muir not far away, also looking upward.

She approached and asked, “What’s happening with these people?

Why have they all co out?

Is there sothing on the Magic Tower?”

“I’m not sure either,” Muir finally looked away and spread his hands helplessly, “It was like this when I ca in, so I too wondered what was happening above.

But I found nothing.”

“I’ll go ask,” Vivian, who was the last one out, overheard the conversation between Catherine and Muir.

She greeted them and went directly to a group of Mages, asking, “Gentlen, what happened above?

Why is everyone gathered below looking up?”

“Uh, who are you?” The person being questioned sized up Vivian and realized she was also an Upper Rank Mage but did not focus much on her identity.

He replied casually after a quick question, “Just a short while ago, the Magic Tower suddenly began to extract energy from the stored energy reservoir.

This indicates that the lord is fighting soone.”

“The Teacher hasn’t personally participated in a battle for a long ti,” another much older mage interjected, “let alone a battle so fierce that it requires drawing power from the Magic Tower.

I don’t even know who it is that’s making the Teacher exert so much effort.”

“Aren’t you worried?” Vivian feigned ignorance as she asked, “Master Fila is facing a formidable opponent.”

“There’s nothing to worry about, as the Teacher is one of the forr heroes who fought against a Deity,” the old mage said casually, “With the Teacher’s current strength, even if I’ve heard he’s not in good health, I don’t believe anyone can defeat him.”

“Maybe so, thanks everyone,” Vivian nodded indifferently, turned around, and left the mages, whose words and actions completely contradicted each other.
