Chapter 31: Realm Of Madness [27] Poor Plebeian

The blood-soaked circle...or rather barrier, held two people. Beyond its shimring surface, Leonidas could roughly make out two faces, a boy and a girl. But that was all, the shimring light and the inky blood made it hard to peer into the identities of the strangers.

Willow arrived beside him with impassive steps, walking the sa as always, as if finding people didn’t matter. Her calm eyes passed over the scene, taking everything in with a single breath.

"Oh my! This is quite surprising. How long were they in there, and are they still alive?" Though her voice was drier than a desert, Leonidas could tell she was a little rattled.

It seems even she didn’t expect sothing like this to ever happen.

The thought brought him a sort of satisfaction, but he pushed it down and walked towards the barrier.

"How would I know? Think for once, Willow dearest, I saw them a second before you. Like, it just ca out with our dinner."

Raising Blush high over his head, Leonidas swung down, slick blood running down his arm. The black droplets fell in a thin line, from the very tips of his nails all the way to his elbow. It was hot, uncomfortable, like a trial of ants crawling over his skin.

His arm blurred forward with a motion of death, moving at speeds beyond ordinary. The blade clashed against the barrier with a thunderous epiphany , the barrier shrugging off the attack as if it was nothing.

Only that it wasn’t nothing, it was an uninterrupted attack from an enlightened individual, more so that said individual was Leonidas.

Cracks spread across the glistening surface of the barrier, spider-webbing, thin hair-line fractures spreading from the point of impact. Without waiting for even a second, Leonidas swung again, cutting through the air, waves of wind lifting the rainbow dust from the ground.

The blade hit the sa point, bouncing back once again, but the cracks widened, covering the entire expanse of the luminous sphere.

Leonidas stepped back and swung once again. The blade rang against the air, singing hymns of death as it blurred forward.

Crack—!

With a deafening crack, the cracks burst into sparks of light, drifting like motes of powdered glass. The blade was still moving forward, about to cleave the people inside in half. Thankfully, Leonidas held full control over it—despite his situation.

He twisted his wrist, a small movent, yet when it reached the blade, it turned and stabbed into the ground beside the...twins.

At least Leonidas guessed they were twins, both were practically the sa, except for their gender. His gaze travelled to the one who had fallen right before his feet: the girl.

She had long white hair, falling over her shoulders and spilling onto the ground like a river of moonlight. Despite being stuck in a pilgrim’s...belly for who knows how long, she was practically glowing. Her eyes were shut, a serene scene.

Her hands were stretched, holding the hands of the boy, who looked a little younger than the girl. His hair, the sa hue as the girl’s, also reached his back, tied with a rubber band into a bun.

Such love...

Indeed, just by looking at them, Leonidas could tell that the girl had sacrificed herself to protect her brother. From the cuts and gashes on their body, Leondias could roughly make out what had happened.

"The pilgrim grabbed the boy with its chicken feet, the girl latched onto his hand, and tried to pull him down. And when she realized she was outmatched in both firepower and physical strength, she erected a barrier around the two of them, after which the beast ate them... at least that is my guess."

Willow had co to the sa conclusion as Leonidas, her gaze trained on the pair, more specifically, the expressions on their face. The two looked in peace, which was confusing, since supposedly, there were being eaten alive.

He spoke up, "And they probably fell into a coma from the lack of oxygen. But the part that’s bugging you is their expression. Both of us knew the girl loved her brother dearly, and said brother was probably a coward."

He locked eyes with Willow. "The sister should have had a pained expression, and the brother should have been screaming. Especially since they would have been awake inside Chicken Eye’s belly for a long ti."

Willow had been nodding along with his explanation, but when he had reached the end, her expression shifted. The indifferent mask cracked, and a look of pure disbelief etched itself upon her features.

"Did...you just call the beast that almost diced you into minced at...Chicken Eyes. What in God’s good na is wrong with you, Art?"

Her bewildernt was evident, and it made Leonidas smile. Finally! Soone had acknowledged his great naming skills.

"Now that you ask, let

tell you all about the process. Better sit down, it might take a while. Also, I’m perfectly normal."

Willow sighed imdiately. She had already experienced Leonidas’s...passion. One might say she was sick of it.

"Right... you’re normal, and I’m still not done with scaling the pilgrim, we need to use those to make better clothes for you, because unlike , you’re a poor plebeian."

Her tone turned into disgust as she said, ’poor’.

What was that disgust? Racist.

If only he had access to his vast amount of riches, he would have shown Willow the true aning of wealth.

Only a ruler could contend with .

Before he could voice another word or think another thought, the sound of coughing shattered the atmosphere. Their eyes snapped towards the girl lowered on her knees.

Her head hung down, eyes still hidden from Leonidas. Her soft coughs soon turned violent. Willow glanced at him, silently encouraging him to rub the girl’s back.

"Like hell I’m touching her, she’s covered in filthy blood."

"What a useless cripple you are." She moved her hand, and the blood solidified into crumbs on onyx, like black sand from a scorched desert.

Between the coughs and shaking body, they could do nothing but fall off.

"Go ahead, she’s clean now..."

God, how I hate this woman and that smile.
