“You broke the agreent!” the dragon accused. “I was to return the princess to you in exchange for your prince’s first child, not before! How can I trust you, treacherous Humans, without a hostage in my claws? I should raze your kingdom to the ground, as an example!”
The dragon seed to calm down and made a nonchalant gesture with its claws.
“Well, the great Azracha is magnanimous. I forgive you. I understand that in your primitive traditions, the princess is useful for forging your sordid alliances, with all the economic interests that entails. I am willing to let you have her. However, the tribute has just doubled. And I will take the queen hostage… as well as a representative from each of the noble families ruling the earldoms. As for the thief… Where is the thief? Bring the head!”
