Chapter 677: Chapter 677: Unexpected Visitor
Atlantis civilization.
I had always thought this topic had long passed, yet unexpectedly, it was brought up again at this ti.
The civilization that was once destroyed by the madness of Visca, which had almost developed to the modern technological stage, was a brilliant ancient human civilization. Why would Lin Xue ntion it now?
“Brother…” Visca suddenly ca closer, gently clutching the hem of my clothes, looking down, her small face with cat-like eyes showing a nervous and uneasy expression. I gently patted her head, “It’s okay, your Sister Lin Xue must have sothing important to say.”
“Well, Wood, have you ever heard of this?” Lin Xue folded her arms, speaking with a hesitant voice, “Race… mory.”
I thought about it and shook my head honestly.
“Stored in genes, mories from the ancient era, or rather, certain stress responses that almost beco innate reflexes,” Lin Xue explained slowly, chin in hand. “Wild animals, even seeing flas for the first ti after birth, carry an innate fear of fire; humans, even without any knowledge about human bodily structure, feel terror upon seeing the bones of their kind, among other similar examples. These fears seem so natural to us they require no explanation, but if you start to think about it, you’ll notice they all share one thing in common: they are non-experiential. Sally’s situation is like this. She feels an instinctual fear towards certain things, such as the Imperial Army and Pandora’s appearance, yet she herself had never seen either. Adding on so information I’ve picked up, I can basically confirm that Sally’s fears originate from ancient mories hidden in her genes. After a bit of calculation and considering the era of the Imperial Army’s activity on Earth… so guesses simply erge.”
“Descendants of Atlantis?”
I looked skeptically at the girl whose complexion wasn’t very good and was filled with fear yet confusion, muttering to myself.
The developnt of events is always full of drama. Who could have expected such a truth to unexpectedly jump out just when none of us thought about it?
“It could basically be considered as such, because the ti has been too long and the purpose of the prediction is unclear, my abilities didn’t give a very clear result this ti. However, there is indeed a tendency towards this truth,” Lin Xue sighed, “It’s possible that Sally carries the genes of the once destroyed Atlantis civilization; although nobody knows how those survivors eventually lived on, their bloodline has indeed continued to this day, and it’s very likely to have gradually spread throughout the world. Perhaps the current human legends about Atlantis, the Nordic God System, the Olympian Gods, the Bible stories, and so on, are all evolved from the fragnted oral accounts from those ancient descendants. Hmm, information is insufficient; it’s difficult to form a very accurate conclusion.”
“If your ability hasn’t failed, it’s probably just so,” Sandora rubbed the brow, narrowing her eyes slightly, “So, what do you an?”
Sandora was asking Lin Xue, who brought Sally before us and stated these shocking truths; she certainly had so idea in mind. Miss Lin was best at bringing us various troubles; moreover, she was a thoroughly straightforward person when with her friends, never hesitating to ask us for help whenever needed.
“Thinking about so war reparations or sothing…” Lin Xue started to say but encountered my gloomy gaze. She quickly retracted, “Cough cough, just lightening the mood, just joking. It has been hundreds of thousands of years; no matter how severe the events of those days were, now they can only be seen as history, even just as a story. I just want to investigate Sally’s background. Since she possesses Atlantis bloodline, her family must have so hidden secrets. There’s a chance we could restore the history from the destruction of the civilization of Atlantis up until today. We’ve always been ignorant of what happened after Visca left Earth; that blank in history hasn’t it troubled you for a long ti?”
Lin Xue was right, that historical vacuum indeed baffled us, especially regarding what happened to her Glory Starship after Visca left. This truth we’ve always been exploring; you could say since we restored the operation of the Visca Barrier Star we’ve never stopped tracing that period of history. Imagine, a Glory-class Starship’s Star Ring, exploded into fragnts, even suffering deep Void contamination, the fragnts fell into the depths of the Void, affecting more than one world. Without a plausible explanation for such a severe event, many would probably feel choked, at least Pandora was always very heated about the attack on her younger sister’s Glory.
But as much as it pertained, it was, after all, hundreds of thousands of years ago, and the records from those days had long been erased by the flow of history, even if we had always been searching on Earth for remnants of the war that ended then, until now, we’ve only found a few suspected Ancient Xyrin Relics that were severely damaged and entirely inadequate for reconstructing a war, let alone recounting that segnt of history.
After hundreds of thousands of years, even the databases of the Empire had beco fragnted shards, not to ntion the remnants of a trivial planetary conflict left on a re carbon-based planet.
“I just didn’t expect that when our investigation into that period of history had reached a deadlock and we were about to give up, Lin Xue brought us such a breakthrough—though this breakthrough made Visca feel quite depressed. Anyway, a sane Visca is still a kind (very foggy) child.”
“Go ahead and investigate if you want to,” I shrugged at Lin Xue, “after all, you’re the Imperial Chief Prophet, head of the intelligence departnt.”
“Since it involves Visca,” Lin Xue looked sowhat embarrassedly at the downcast Visca, “it’s better to give a heads-up. In the subsequent investigation, we might have to contact the descendants of Atlantis, and the standpoints of both sides are a bit awkward.”
I nodded in understanding. The great enmity of a nation’s extinction is no joke. Thinking back to the fury and ferocity shown by the tribes of the Pan-Galactic Civilization Community when they rose up to resist the Shepherds, one can imagine the extent of racial hatred; but now, tens of thousands of years have passed, and even if the immortal Xyrin Apostles are still around, those surviving descendants of Atlantis have already fully integrated into modern humanity. The so-called awkwardness is just a psychological issue on our side.
“The Xyrin Apostles are never afraid to take responsibility, and we also need to investigate what happened after the war,” Sandora glanced at the clueless Sally, “When it cos to military operations, Xyrin Apostles are experts, but in civilian investigations, we’re still not up to par with humans from decades ago. You can be fully in charge.”
I absolutely believed Sandora. If you ask an Imperial Agent to investigate a family tree, the only thod he can think of would surely be to put a gun to soone’s head and force them to reveal their family connections… These folks, who ruled the universe with a single track mind for tens of millions of years, don’t have any concept of peaceful contact; they never consider using complex and finesse-filled thods for investigations…
“So, what, sister, can I ask sothing?”
Seeing that we seed to have agreed on sothing, Lin Feng, who from the beginning had been confused, finally could not help but speak up.
“Is it about ?” Sally asked in her half-baked Chinese, looking nervous at and Sandora while dodging the direction of Pandora and Visca.
“It’s sothing very old anyway,” I glanced at Visca, who nodded pitifully at , “Alright, my sister agreed. Let tell you the story about the Moon…”
In the next few minutes, I narrated the history of the Atlantis civilization in a way that was as simple as possible for ordinary people to understand. It was essentially a story of aliens invading Earth. During the narrative, Lin Feng, Sally, and Ding Ling were all listening intently with wide eyes, not wanting to miss a single detail. Clearly, this explosive story had overturned their previous mythical tales and worldviews.
After the story ended, the three were silent for a long ti. Finally, Lin Feng sighed to the heavens, “If this were uploaded to a narrative site, it’d be at least two million words…”
Lin Xue quickly gave him a punch, “Is that line in the script?!”
I gave Lin Xue a glare, “Is that line in the script?!”
“Cough cough, just lightening the mood,” Lin Feng scratched his head, then curiously looked at Visca, who always appeared docile to outsiders but was rumored to be very spirited, “Were you that amazing before?”
Visca’s face was full of embarrassnt, “I was immature back then…”
“Co on, co on, haven’t you heard of the Minor Protection Act? Visca doesn’t want to bring up the past,” Lin Xue quickly poked her brother’s waist, then turned to Sally, “Um, how should I put it, it always feels a bit weird to apologize.”
“No, no need,” Sally, who had been lost in thought, suddenly snapped back to reality and frantically waved her hands as she struggled to organize her thoughts in Chinese. “Actually, after hearing that story, I really felt nothing. Thinking about our ancestors from hundreds of thousands of years ago seems so surreal now, and I certainly don’t feel any resentnt. It’s just that I didn’t expect that to be the reason…”
I looked at Visca leaning against and thought to myself, This girl is fierce. She turned an apocalypse into a trigger for becoming an advanced wisdom race, maybe it has to do with the special genetic format of the Atlantis race. According to the old records from the research center on Visca Barrier Star, the Atlantis race had undergone transformations by the Imperial Expedition Team. Their genes possessed miraculous learning capabilities, even capable of inheriting the knowledge of previous generations through conditioned reflexes. Although this wasn’t as good as the mory input abilities of a Xyrin Apostle, it was enough for a carbon-based race to achieve an evolutionary speed several tis faster than modern humans. It’s just that I didn’t expect these genes to eventually cause such trouble.
“Uh—Ah Jun,” Qianqian suddenly tugged at my arm, “During the festival, can we not talk about such serious stuff?”
I imdiately agreed, “Sure, how about we discuss the concert this afternoon, where the Tauren Chief’s band and Nero will be performing together…”
Before I could finish, I was interrupted by a burst of exclamations approaching from afar. “Big, big trouble… Boom!”
I hurried outside to check the situation and just saw a Red and White Witch slowly sliding off Bieberu.
“Great Emperor, I feel a bit unstable…” Poor Pri Minister had just said this when he started to speed up slowly, rolling down the street towards the main road, but thankfully, Pandora was quick to stop this runaway iron ball.
“It hurts—Why would there be such a big iron ball at the door!”
Boli Lingng, with a big bump on her head and tears welling up in her eyes, looked up, “dical expenses!”
I would bet that if she really got the dical expenses today, starting tomorrow Bieberu would be preparing to turn her into a cripple.
“What’s wrong? You seem panicked.”
I decisively ignored her constant focus on money, but still helped her up from the ground, “Is soone causing trouble?”
Ling ng, rubbing her head, shook her head repeatedly. “How could that be! With the city patrol around, who would dare to make trouble! It’s just, just that Yakumo Lan has arrived…”
“Yakumo Lan? Zi’s Shishen?”
“Mm-hmm,” Ling ng nodded repeatedly, “And she’s badly injured.”
When Sandora and I hurriedly followed Ling ng to the temporary residence where she and Yakumo Zi were staying, the unexpected visitor had already fallen deep asleep on the bed.
A girl with very beautiful fur… uh, cough cough, a girl who looks very cute, with a brightly colored tail. Nope, that’s not right, a girl who looks very cute, with many tails, fur color…nevermind, I give up.
Lying in bed, deep asleep, was a blonde girl with a sowhat pale complexion. She had a peaceful expression, seeming free from any serious trouble. Her features were slightly immature, placing her in the category of extrely cute. What caught the eye, however, were the pair of golden fox ears atop her head. Though they were now drooping listlessly, one could tell by their fur that… ahem, aside from a bunch of obviously non-human beastly ears, there was a bulging under the covers where several fluffy tails poked out from a gap in the blanket, clearly displaying her demonic nature.
Yakumo Lan, the shikigami of Yakumo Zi, was essentially a powerful nine-tailed demon fox. Typically, her master treated her like a servant for odd jobs. While the always sleepy Zi was snoozing, the demon fox girl’s task was to handle all matters on behalf of her master. From the occasional chats I had with Zi, I knew their master-servant relationship was quite strong. During the period Zi was inadvertently brought to Shadow City and worked to pay off her debts, she often ntioned her shikigami to .
Upon seeing Sandora and co for a visit, Yakumo Zi who was caring for her imdiately stood up: “Chen, Your Majesty Sandora.”
After many days together, Zi had beco familiar with the Empire’s folk. Knowing what our theoretically stern and aloof, but actually joyful party-loving imperial leaders were like, Zi’s interaction with us had evolved from strictly business during our initial etings to sothing resembling friendship with acquaintances now. She addressed by my surna, which she was accustod to, and still called the sowhat queenly Sandora ‘Your Majesty’, though she also occasionally used her first na. Considering the ssy way we all referred to each other in our circle, we had no issue with how she addressed us.
“The fur color isn’t bad… ahem, I an, it looks like she’s out of danger now?”
“Fortunately, her vital parts weren’t damaged. Demons have very strong life forces. However, although she has been treated with demonic power, her spiritual exhaustion can’t be replenished, so she likely needs a long sleep,” Yakumo Zi whispered, as if afraid of waking the girl beside her.
It’s rare indeed. So the imposing Mother Zi also shows such a tender side when the other party isn’t aware… ahem, I need to behave, Sister Zi, Sister Zi.
“What exactly happened?” Sandora and I found seats in the room and asked. As for Boli Lingng, who had brought us here in a bluster, well, that no-morals witch, despite her panicked appearance just a mont ago, now seed totally at ease like everything was fine since the leaders were here. She had already gone to the living room to make tea. I seriously suspect she just did this to skip work!
“I’m not entirely clear on the specifics,” Zi shook her head slightly troubled, “At that ti, a world portal malfunctioned. The alert indicated that an unregistered entity had intruded into the portal. When the investigating ravens returned, they brought back Lan, who was already half-unconscious. She was stuck in the portal, and fortunately, the doors on the other side didn’t open, so she was spared from being hard by space fragnts.”
“I think she might have been following my scent,” Zi added after a mont’s thought.
“Do you need a dical cabin?” I stepped forward and touched the demon fox girl’s forehead, which was ice-cold—apparently, it’s true that demons have lower body temperatures than humans.
“Will it be covered?”
: “…Reimbursent.”
“Oh, then let’s use it.”
: “…Could you perhaps keep so distance from Lingng in the future?”
Thanks to convenient dispatch and teleportation facilities, logistical personnel from the dical center arrived in the room within a minute and carefully moved the sleeping demon fox into a portable dical cabin. Her nine large tails gave our staff a bit of trouble, but fortunately, the skilful female soldiers managed to elegantly braid Yakumo Lan’s tails into three braids, finally fitting her into the dical cabin.
Hey! Did sothing weird just pass by? Turning soone’s tails into braids, what are you trying to do here! (
