In the evening, inside a mansion on New York’s Upper East Side.
Jeff Bezos sat on the sofa, holding a Motorola prototype in his hand.
Although Motorola was slightly behind Nokia in the developnt of 2G phones, as the dominant force in the mobile phone industry, it quickly caught up thanks to its profound technical expertise.
Bezos took out a Nokia phone and compared it with Motorola.
Both phones had full keyboards and supported internet access, texting, faxing, and other functions.
If one had to point out a difference, it was probably just the brands and that the reading software included in the phones was different.
Bezos recalled eting Wang Jian once before, in front of the Random House building.
Back then, the other party was just a rookie best-selling author.
But who could have imagined that in just over half a year, the Asian boy’s personal website had grown to such an extent.
If one were to say that eBay and Amazon were both disruptors of traditional comrce and competitors,
Then in publishing, that website had overturned both the brick-and-mortar bookstore and Amazon’s online bookstore models.
A few days earlier, an editor responsible for popular literature had complained to him, "The second half of 1995 was the worst half-year for sales of narrative books in the past decade."
Bezos almost couldn’t hold back, and at that ti wanted to say to him, "You should look on the bright side, maybe it’ll be the best half-year within the next decade?"
While Bezos thought about continuing to compare the different reading software, his wife Mackenzie Bezos ca to his side.
"Jeff, go change into sothing more formal, we have guests from the community coming over tonight."
Bezos, who had just gained residency status in the Upper East Side, sighed helplessly, "These old money folks really are a hassle."
Ten minutes later, neighbors started arriving one after the other.
The maids in the house also began to set a sumptuous dinner on the table.
"Ha, Jeff, welco to Arica’s finest community," a neighbor handed Bezos a bottle of red wine, "This community finally has a tech elite."
"Thank you," Bezos politely responded, "I can hardly be called a tech elite, Amazon is still a ways from going public."
"Don’t be modest, your website is great, it’s so convenient to find so classic old books," said another neighbor’s husband sincerely.
Unexpectedly, a thirteen or fourteen-year-old boy said disdainfully, "What era is this, still reading ’Uncle Tom’s Cabin’?"
That imdiately prompted a collective echo from the adolescent boys, "Exactly, ’Extre Heavenly Demon’ and ’Anomalies and Creatures’ are the real good reads."
The wife of the neighbor was quite embarrassed.
While apologizing to Mackenzie, she scolded the boys, "Can’t you read so classic literature? Look at your sister, always holding ’Little Won.’"
"She’s tricking you! She printed the novel with a printer. ’Little Won’ is just the cover, inside it’s actually ’Harem Youngest Daughter of the Boleyn Family’!"
"What nonsense are you spouting!" The eldest daughter, inadvertently dragged into the fray, hurriedly scolded her brother, then leaned over to him and whispered, "Don’t talk nonsense, I’ll tell you later about eting Wang Jian at a charity event a few days ago."
The Bezos couple quietly exchanged glances.
To ease the tension, Mackenzie said, "It’s getting late, let’s eat."
Thus, the embarrassed adults all took their seats, swiftly glossing over the previous topic.
At the dinner table, everyone worked hard at complinting each other.
"What great prospects your company has," "Your hospital must be so profitable"...
Then the n began to talk politics.
And the won discussed what new styles the luxury stores had.
But because of differing political views, two neighbors, one Democrat, one Republican, got into a bit of an argunt.
As the host, Bezos quickly tried to smooth things over, "Let’s not talk politics, there’s a Knicks ga on tonight."
Okay, even though the Knicks were terrible, they still had a high level of support in New York.
The n tactfully changed the subject and sat down on the sofa together, getting ready to watch the basketball ga.
Bezos turned on the TV, about to switch the channel to ESPN.
But then, a female neighbor called out, "Was that CBS just now? Can we switch back for a mont?"
At ho, the n probably wouldn’t even bother.
But in front of everyone else, they were gentlemanly enough to turn the channel back to CBS.
"Welco to next week’s highlights.
Ever since ’Prison Break’ aired, the exciting plot and tense atmosphere have attracted a huge audience.
So, what will the grand finale be like, will the heroine successfully escape from prison and reunite with her boyfriend?
A friendly reminder: The boyfriend from her first love is played by one of the show’s screenwriters, producer, and best-selling author Wang Jian."
"Wang Jian?" The eldest daughter’s eyes lit up as she imdiately left the dinner table and stood behind the sofa.
After a mont of silence from the housewives, soone finally spoke up, "So it’s the finale already?"
"I don’t know what ’Prison Break’s producers are thinking, not releasing videos," complained a housewife, "That handso Asian boy looks so smart, doesn’t he?"
"Ah, Nora, I rember your father is one of CBS’s shareholders, can you borrow the original tape so we can make copies?"
"I’m just a minor shareholder, with only one vote on the board," Nora said very "modestly," "However, borrowing an original tape of a TV series shouldn’t be a problem."
"When the ti cos, let copy it, I want to watch it from beginning to end," the housewives said one after another, "I missed a whole episode because of a parent-teacher conference!"
Mackenzie Bezos looked at the neighbors, "Is this ’Prison Break’ really that good?"
"You haven’t seen it?" The housewives looked at Mackenzie in surprise, "In a while, co over to my house, and we’ll watch it from start to finish."
While the housewives complained about ’Prison Break’ videos still not being available for sale, the producers were actually making an effort.
At this mont, Wang Jian was sitting in his apartnt, taking a call from Tom at Netflix’s headquarters.
"Netflix will produce ten thousand videotapes for rental because it wasn’t part of the production, the profit sharing for ’Prison Break’ will be 2:8."
"From ’Prison Break Prequel: From Special Soldier to Warden,’ since it’s involved in the production, it will be fifty-fifty in profits from videotapes."
"Okay, got it," Wang Jian replied while looking at a text from Naomi.
"Wang, fancy a coffee together soti?"
He casually turned off his phone and said to Tom, "Leave the team there, co back soon."
"Tomorrow, ’Prison Break Special Forces’ has auditions to conduct."
