163: Consu The Magus!!!

163: Consu The Magus!!!

He pointed the pickaxe at the Magus.

“I didn’t choose this.

I didn’t train for it.

It’s like waking up and being told I’m now the CEO of a collapsing company, with no idea how anything works.

Yeah, the power’s nice, but just what the hell I need to face!?” His voice dropped, teeth grinding.

“A freaking God Eater?” The air hung heavy with silence, then Both moved at once.

Ben co first, pickaxe whistling through the air.

The Magus sidestepped, barely, his knees buckling under the strain.

He countered with a jagged burst of lightning from his fingertips, but it sputtered, weak, unstable.

Ben ducked under it, drove forward, shoulder slamming into the Magus’s chest and sending both of them tumbling across the cracked floor.

They rolled, fists flying.

The pickaxe clanged against the Magus’s forearm, drawing sparks but not blood.

The Magus kneed Ben in the gut, and both of them stumbled apart, panting, glaring.

Then they crashed together again.

Punch.

Parry.

Elbow.

Slam.

Their battle beca a brawl.

The Magus grabbed Ben’s collar, slamd him against a broken pillar.

Ben drove his forehead forward with a CRACK, splitting the Magus’s lip.

The Magus roared, driving a fist wrapped in thin arcs of lightning into Ben’s ribs.

Bone cracked.

Ben snarled through the pain, swung low, his pickaxe carved a deep gouge across the Magus’s thigh.

They broke apart, both staggering, breathing hard.

Neither spoke.

Then they moved again.

The Magus lashed out with a short blast of shadow.

Ben batted it aside, charged through the haze, and drove his shoulder into the Magus’s gut, lifting him off the ground and slamming him into the wall.

The relic ring on the Magus’s hand flared, and with one motion, he brought his fist up, striking Ben’s temple.

Ben reeled, but didn’t fall.

With a snarl, he gripped the pickaxe in both hands.

And brought it down.

The Magus caught the handle with trembling hands, barely.

Their arms locked, muscles straining, breath ragged, sparks creackling between them.

Just inches away, their eyes t.

Then, Ben twisted the pickaxe sideways, breaking the deadlock, and slamd his forehead into the Magus’s face, staggering him.

One step.

Two steps.

Ben raised the pickaxe over his head.

And brought it down.

The Magus twisted his wrist, catching the descending pickaxe on the crook of his forearm.

With a roar, he heaved upward the weapon tore from Ben’s grip and clattered across the stone, vanishing into the rubble with a tallic scream.

Ben’s eyes widened, then narrowed.

The Magus ca in first, wild but fast, his fist laced with faint sparks as it cracked toward Ben’s jaw.

Ben weaved to the side, the blow grazing his cheek.

He countered with a heavy body shot driving his fist into the Magus’s ribs.

The Magus grunted, but answered with a savage elbow to Ben’s nose.

CRACK.

Blood spattered.

Ben stumbled back two steps, but then charged, fury in his eyes.

They collided like teors.

Fists flew like hamrs.

Each blow was a full-body strike.

Ben’s knuckles split on the Magus’s ribs.

The Magus’s strikes left purple bruises blooming across Ben’s arms and chest.

Neither blocked.

Neither dodged.

They endured.

Ben ducked under a wide hook and planted a brutal punch into the Magus’s gut.

The Magus doubled over, but managed to grab Ben by the collar and drag him into a rising knee.

Ben’s breath exploded from his lungs.

They broke apart, both staggering, limbs trembling.

Then again.

The Magus lashed out with a backfist, Ben caught it, twisted the wrist, yanked him in, and headbutted him square in the forehead.

CRACK.

Both reeled.

The Magus roared, grabbed Ben’s shoulders, and ramd him into the ground.

But Ben wouldn’t stay down.

He rolled, kicked out, and the Magus crashed into a broken pillar.

The stone snapped behind him.

Ben pounced.

They tumbled again, fists thudding against ribs, faces, shoulders, until the ground was slick with blood and ash, until they could barely stand.

The ground keep vibrating, as the white lava raise another level forcing to avoid so area.

The Magus swung high.

Ben ducked low.

BAM!

A clean uppercut cracked into the Magus’s jaw, lifting him half a foot off the ground.

He crashed to the dirt.

Still.

Twitching.

Ben stood over him, chest heaving, blood dripping from his face and knuckles.

His fists clenched.

His voice was hoarse.

“This is for annoying .” He straddled the Magus’s chest, than throw a punch drove it into the Magus’s cheek.

BAM!

Blood sprayed.

The Magus’s head snapped to the side.

BAM!

Another blow.

BAM!

Another.

The stone beneath them cracked from the pressure.

But the Magus’s eyes, though glazed and bloodied, still burned with sothing fierce.

A glimr of resistance.

Ben paused, his fist hovering.

“You’re still looking at like you’ve won,” he growled.

BAM!

BAM!

BAM!!!

The ground rumbled again.

The white lava surged behind him, boiling over the broken edge of the arena, creeping closer like death itself.

Ben’s voice turned cold.

“No more cobacks.” His back split open, flesh twisting, reshaping.

A maw of fangs and tendons unfurled from his spine, coiling like a serpent above the Magus’s body.

“Any final words?” The Magus coughed, blood spilling from his lips, every breath a broken rasp.

His eyes, hazy and fading, locked on Ben one last ti.

His mouth moved forcing out a single word.

“…Aira…” Ben’s brow twitched.

Was it a na?

A person?

A spell?

He didn’t know.

Didn’t care.

His voice dropped.

“Consu.” The maw above them shuddered, then co downward.

The Magus tried to lift his hand, one final flicker of lightning sputtering at his fingertips.

But his body betrayed him.

There was no strength left.

CRUNCH!

The jaws clamped down, ripping into body and soul alike.

Ben staggered for a second as the rush hit him, a storm of mories not his own, fragnts of rage, love, ambition… and fear.
