[Chapter: 97 School]

Jill looked at the black man who had not been bitten, standing in front of the car door. She rembered this man as the person who had pulled handguns on them at the police station.

"Co on in," Jill said lightly.

"Thank you, thank you. My na is Lloyd Jefferson Wade, but you can call Lj," Lj introduced himself after a mont.

William glanced at Lj. This man was incredibly lucky. He had no apparent survival skills, yet he had managed to live this long without getting bitten. If that wasn't luck, William didn't know what was.

"What's your na, handso?" Lj said warmly to William.

"William," William replied with a smile.

Seeing William smile at him and not get angry, Lj felt encouraged and started talking, "William, so many people are dead or have turned into one of those things. Even those who had guns and were in the military! Do you know why I'm still fine till now?"

"Because you're great," William replied.

"That's right! Do you know how many terrifying things I've encountered? You wouldn't even believe it. Just now, I escaped from a powerful monster, while all the other mbers of S.T.A.R.S. were killed," Lj said proudly.

When Jill heard "S.T.A.R.S.," she frowned. "You said S.T.A.R.S.?" Jill had been a mber of S.T.A.R.S. herself.

"Yeah, that monster was terrifying, holding a Gatling gun and shooting like crazy. When the bullets flew, it killed over thirty S.T.A.R.S. mbers in just a few seconds. I was the only one who managed to hide and escape." Lj's voice grew louder as he spoke.

"Gatling gun," Jill muttered, recalling the monster under the bridge. That must have been it.

William smiled faintly. This guy was a coward, but his luck had kept him alive.

Terry said in disbelief, "Did you really survive after seeing that thing?"

"Hey, of course, it's true! I'm not lying. I saw it with my own eyes," Lj said hastily.

"Looking at how panicked you are now, what you said seems far-fetched," Terry said indifferently.

"Because he's bragging," William laughed.

"You—" Lj was montarily embarrassed, though he tried to hide it.

The truck drove on, and soon they arrived outside Raccoon City Junior High School. The four of them got out of the vehicle and approached the gate.

Inside the school hall, the group moved cautiously. Jill broke the silence, "We'll search separately."

"No, no, I don't want to act alone," Terry said, looking at William nervously.

"You search the first floor," Jill instructed Lj. Then, turning to Terry, she handed her a gun. "You search the second floor. I'll take the basent."

"I'll search the third floor," William volunteered.

"William," Terry called out, wanting to stay close to him for a sense of safety.

"Terry, it will be okay," William reassured her with a smile. He wanted her to adapt, and this was the perfect opportunity to help her grow stronger.

Terry hesitated but eventually nodded. "Alright."

"Jill, can you give a smoke?" William asked, patting her shoulder.

Jill glanced at William. "There are only two left."

"So stingy? Co on, when we get out of here, I'll get you ten boxes, okay?" William said with a laugh.

Jill pulled out her cigarette case and handed him one while lighting the other for herself. "Rember your promise: ten boxes."

"Okay," William said, exhaling smoke.

With that, the group split up and headed to their assigned areas. William climbed to the third floor, sat down, and slowly finished his cigarette, savoring the mont.

"It's almost ti to do my business," William muttered, tossing the cigarette butt aside. He stood up and began to move again.

anwhile, Terry searched the second floor alone, gripping a pistol tightly. Cold sweat trickled down her face as she cautiously inspected her surroundings.

Entering a classroom, Terry noticed a girl crouched on the floor with her back turned.

"Angela? Are you Angela? Don't be afraid, we'll take you ho," Terry whispered, approaching the girl slowly.

"Angela." Terry gently patted the girl's shoulder.

The girl turned around, her mouth covered in blood and an arm in her hands, which she was eating.

"Oh my God!" Terry gasped, stumbling back in horror. She suddenly felt sothing behind her. Turning around, she saw the bodies in the room begin to rise as zombies.

"Ah!" A zombie lunged at Terry, trying to bite her.

"William!" Terry scread.

Bang!

A bullet pierced through the head of the zombie about to bite Terry.

"Ah, ah!" Terry cried as several more zombies in front of her were knocked back by sudden gunfire.

A blur of movent appeared, and Terry felt herself being swept off her feet. A gust of wind rushed past her, and her surroundings beca a blur.

"It's okay," a man's voice reassured her.

Blinking in confusion, Terry looked up and saw William's face. All the emotions she had been holding back erupted at once, and tears stread down her cheeks. "William, I was so scared! I thought—I thought—"

"Everything will be okay as long as I'm here," William said softly.

"Hou!" The child zombies at the door growled and charged at William one by one.
