Jas continued swinging, with the motion of each swing becoming sharper and more controlled than the last.

Mr. Donovan remained silent for the most part, offering the occasional correction — a shift in foot placent, a tweak in grip, a reminder to let the swing breathe.

But when Jas delivered his cleanest shot yet — a smooth, rhythmic arc that sent the ball sailing far and straight — Donovan raised a hand.

"That’s enough," he said calmly.

Jas lowered the club, panting lightly. A thin sheen of sweat clung to his temples.

"Pack your things," Donovan said, turning without waiting. "Let’s talk."

He started walking back toward the shaded patio without another word, and Jas quickly shouldered his golf bag and followed, falling into step beside him.

"You’ve never played before," he said. It wasn’t a question.

Jas nodded.

"Today was my first real try."

Mr Donovan didn’t say anything in acknowledgent to Jas’ skills as a first tir.

"Chris told that you want to learn golf because you want access into this part of the world," Mr Donovan said, after a couple seconds of silence.

"Now, let ask you," he continued, "Why do you want access to this part of the world? What do you plan to achieve my doing that? What’s your endga?"

"Why not just enjoy your money and the benefits it brings with it? Why co into the most ruthless part of the world?" He asked.

Jas exhaled silently when he heard Mr Donovan’s question. He naturally expected the question, as he was aware that he’s being tested.

Letting out another silent exhale, he replied.

"I understand that a lot of things in the world first pass through here and this is the where real moves are made. But the main reason I want to join us because of my family and those I care about.

I know that no matter how much money I make, if I can’t protect my wealth and my loved ones, then it’s pretty useless. I know that everything may sound like I’m just bringing up an excuse, and it’s understandable. Also, the world in general is already ruthless."

Mr. Donovan nodded slowly, his eyes never leaving the path ahead.

"And you think being here — in this world — will make it easier to protect them?"

Jas nodded once.

"Not easier," he said. "Just more possible."

Mr. Donovan glanced at him sideways, face unreadable.

"And what makes you think you belong here? People in this circle aren’t like others. They don’t play by normal rules. They smile while stabbing each other’s backs, and half the ti, the stab is expected."

Jas smiled faintly. Of course he knew this. Things are crazier with people in this circle.

He knew that distrust, betrayal, hidden daggers covered with smiles, are the order of the day for people in this part of the world. But that doesn’t an that he’s going to back down.

Since he has decided to dip his leg into a dark water filled with sharks and monsters, then he’s ready to swim with them, evolve and beco a behemoth among them.

Jas understood that to beco among the top 1% of the world’s population, he has to be just as crazy as them. And that is exactly what he will beco, but he will do it without losing himself.

"I don’t plan to blend in with them. I just want access. I’ll play by the rules — until I can make my own," he replied.

His response earned a tiny twitch at the corner of Donovan’s mouth. Barely a smirk, but it was sothing.

"So you don’t want to be a player. You want to be a power," Mr Donovan asked, with slight amusent.

Jas nodded again.

"I don’t want temporary leverage. I want permanence. I want to exist in the kind of space where people don’t just ask what I do — they ask what I want."

Yeah, that might be him doing too far and daydreaming too much, but this is Jas’ actual goal. He doesn’t want to be controlled by anyone or any entity, or organisation or governnt. He wants to be the one up there and calling the shots. This is actually his endga.

Jas and Mr Donovan walked the rest of the path in silence.

A few monts later, they arrived at the shaded patio near the range. It was quiet and private, with two deep lounge chairs placed under a wide umbrella.

Mr. Donovan sat in one, motioning for Jas to take the other.

Jas sat down, posture upright but relaxed, his face calm.

Donovan folded his arms and stared ahead for a mont, as if weighing sothing.

"I charge $6,000 per session," he said, without looking at Jas. "Minimum of three sessions a week — Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays."

Jas didn’t flinch, as he nodded

"Understood."

Donovan turned his head slightly, studying him.

"No expression change. Not bad. Most boys your age either flinch or laugh like it’s a joke."

Jas just nodded, and said.

"I didn’t co here for discounts. I ca to learn."

Donovan leaned back slightly, a soft breath escaping his nose. Not quite amusent. More like... acknowledgnt.

"Good. We start Thursday. No training today. Your first session will be the real beginning."

Jas nodded again, calmly.

Mr. Donovan stood, brushing invisible dust off his slacks.

"Also... I’ll be recomnding your na to the country club board. You’ll receive a call from the manager soon. mbership, initiation fees, guidelines — all the usual."

Jas blinked, surprised for a second. That was fast. He expected to be recomnded after a couple of sessions and when he’s good enough, or after Mr Donovan has finished coaching him. But he actually got the recomndation even before his first training session. It actually ans a lot to him.

"Thank you," he said sincerely.

Donovan didn’t look at him — just stared out at the driving range again.

"This place will be your first stepping stone," he said. "But don’t get ahead of yourself."

He turned his head slightly, eyes narrowing.

"You’ve got a lot of work to do. You’re not ready yet."

Jas stood as well, straightening his shoulders.

"Then I’ll work."

Mr. Donovan finally turned, offering a firm nod.

"Good."

Without another word, he walked off — confident, composed, not looking back once.

Jas stood there for a mont, the soft wind brushing past him, the muted sounds of polite conversation and golf swings in the distance.

This wasn’t the end of a eting. This was the start of an initiation — his initiation.

And he had just taken the first step into a world most people only ever saw from the outside. And the real climb had finally begun.
