Jude arrived at the company early on Monday morning.
As expected, Xu ngyuan and Hephaestus hadn’t arrived yet.
Fortunately, Jude’s fingerprint had already been entered into the access control system of the Third Era, so he didn’t have to stand outside and wait.
Jude swiped the glass door open and walked into the deserted reception area.
He activated the corridor lights via voice command, illuminating the entire hallway. Then he turned left, entered the pantry, added so coffee beans to the automatic coffee machine, fetched a box of milk from the refrigerator, added it to the milk pitcher, and selected latte from the nu.
Once the coffee was ready, Jude picked up a cup, grabbed a small bottle of room-temperature mini coke from the shelf, and casually stuffed it into his suit pocket.
He sipped his coffee as he made his way back to the reception area.
Jude’s gaze was once again drawn to the electronic clock on the wall.
He had noticed the countdown the first ti he ca for the written exam, and it was still prominently displayed.
Especially when it was quiet and deserted, those continuously changing numbers were particularly striking.
"You always co this early, trying for a perfect attendance award?"
The voice of Xu ngyuan ca from behind Jude.
Today, the HR lady was wearing a V-neck shirt paired with trousers, now holding a box of pan-fried buns instead.
"Does the company even have an attendance award?" Jude asked.
"It’s because there isn’t one that I’m curious," Xu ngyuan replied.
"Oh, I ca in early today mainly to ask about sothing."
"What is it?"
Jude pointed at the wall clock. "What does this countdown an?"
"It doesn’t an anything special," Xu ngyuan explained. "Just one of those odd little quirks so board mbers have, thinking it’s cool to have a countdown as a decoration."
"I see."
"Did you really co early just for this?"
"No, the countdown just crossed my mind suddenly. I actually wanted to ask about the impact of the Divine Sequence on our universe."
Xu ngyuan raised her eyebrows. "Have you died before?"
"No," Jude finished his latte. "I just happened to notice during gaming yesterday that I had beco a ’Language Master.’"
"Ah ha... Your Zero Sequence has activated."
Hephaestus, stifling a yawn, walked out of the office.
"When did you get here," Jude exclaid, "while I was brewing coffee?"
"No, I’ve been here since last night," Hephaestus eyed the pan-fried buns in Xu ngyuan’s hand, swallowing a mouthful of saliva, "Could you share so with ?"
"Isn’t staying overnight against company policy? Why can he do it?" Jude pointed at Hephaestus.
"He’s not working late. He just sneaks over to play gas," Xu ngyuan said lightly.
"Hehehe, the internet is faster here, and there’s no charge for electricity and air conditioning."
"..."
"So, the translation function I co with is also a type of godly sequence?" Li Yu processed what Hephaestus had said before, and asked, "Can there be multiple godly sequences?"
"Yes," Hephaestus nodded, "Travelers like you generally have two godly sequences. The Zero Sequence, which is your so-called translation function, is sothing everyone has, to facilitate communication with the natives. The First Sequence, however, is our focus, and it varies from person to person.
"Through your descent, the godly sequences that were dormant within you have now been activated, and they will continue to be effective whether in another universe or the one we’re in. Later, if you gather enough faith, you might even try to activate more sequences. But among all the sequences, the First Sequence is always the most precious and rare."
"You’re telling this important information only now?"
"Discovery is also a source of joy," replied Hephaestus, "Standard procedures indeed can improve the production efficiency in industries, but they also kill the creativity of professionals. And in our field, creativity is particularly important.
"The board doesn’t need well-trained soldiers; they need leaders who are charismatic, flexible, and capable of utilizing limited resources to deal with complex environnts. The company’s role is to help them unleash their potential as much as possible."
"Is that so? Then how do you plan to unleash my potential?" Li Yu asked.
"Do nothing."
"Hmm?"
"We do nothing," Xu ngyuan said, "That’s the final conclusion of the board’s discussion. You possess the extrely rare ’Reborn’ godly sequence, which ans, compared to others, you have unlimited opportunities to make mistakes."
Hephaestus also said, "Failure is not the end for you, but simply another new beginning. Each failure helps you grow and beco more powerful, just like the protagonists in soul-series gas—there’s no better teacher than this."
"This approach may bring slightly less profit initially, but the returns will beco more considerable as ti goes on."
"I’ll do my best," said Li Yu.
After speaking, he glanced at the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms on his wrist and headed towards Room Eight, ready for a business trip.
...
After a familiar sensation of dizziness, Li Yu found himself standing in a bedroom.
The furniture and decor were very similar to the room he had previously used for storing his things, but this one was a bit larger, and the windows were significantly bigger, and there was soone sitting by the window.
The person was wearing an oversized knee-length nightgown, just having slipped off one stocking, revealing a sinewy, taut, and elastic calf below.
The other stocking was also halfway down.
At that mont, she seed to notice sothing. Her long ears trembled alertly as she raised her head.
The next mont, a scream echoed throughout the entire castle!
It startled not only the guard at the door but also Jude and his large black dog, who were drinking downstairs.
The latter was about to run towards the source of the noise when it turned to see its master still calmly drinking at the table.
"What are you joining the fuss for, they only paid us to be a decoration, not to protect her," Half-Face sneered.
The black dog barked twice, as if in objection, and Jude’s expression changed slightly, "You an if that stingy rabbit dies, we’ll lose our jobs as decorations? Hmm, that does make so sense."
Half-Face stroked his chin, "Then let’s go up and take a quick look."
Jude arrived relatively late; Alfred and others had already been sent away by Ireya.
Miss Rabbit said she had just had a nightmare about her stepmother leading troops back again. Jude peeked into her room, saw nothing unusual, and was about to leave.
But then he saw the big black dog suddenly spring into action, leapt past the girl, dashed into the room like a gust of wind, and finally stopped in front of the wardrobe, barking at it.
"Black Beauty, co back," Jude called from behind, then again looked towards Ireya.
The girl’s face was flushed red; she couldn’t lift her head and clutched the cloak she had just draped over her shoulders, unable to say a word.
"You nobles really know how to have fun," Jude remarked, but he didn’t say anything more or give Miss Rabbit a chance to explain, instead leaving with the big black dog leisurely after dropping such a comnt.
