"How do you plan to prove it?" Herodotus finally showed so interest, setting down the wine bowl he’d been holding.
"Um, based on your current level of proficiency, it might be a bit difficult to communicate directly with the goddess. But for now, you could start with simple questions, those with a yes or no answer, and then ask Pisya to send you a sign,"
"A sign?" Herodotus stroked his chin, "Hmm, indeed, a considerable part of oracles are conveyed through signs, but they are not ordinary signs, they are very rare signs, only such are accepted as oracles.
"For example, a white dog gave birth to nine puppies, eight of which are white like their mother, except for the ninth one, which is black."
"Or, for instance, a fisherman once had a grand dream where Pisya led him to the riverside, and when he woke up, he went to the place indicated by the goddess and ended up catching a strange fish with three eyes."
Herodotus looked towards Clara, "Are the signs you speak of like these?"
"Certainly," the little maid asserted firmly, "but I need to make so preparations first."
"What preparations?"
"I need a jar with the head, body, and tail of the sa size, as slender as possible, its inner walls as smooth as can be, only such can connect the land with the Divine Country."
"A slender jar?" Herodotus pondered, "There probably aren’t jars of such strange shapes in this world, but no matter, I can have one made for you overnight."
"That would be perfect," Clara paused, then said, "rlin once ntioned that when he was practicing communication on Saturdays, he would inscribe the Divine Pattern of the Double Rest Sect on the pottery.
"Priest Herodotus, you could do the sa, engrave the Divine Pattern of the Silver Moon Church on the outside of the jar, ensuring that it will indeed be Pisya responding to you."
"Not just that, I will also perform an exorcism ritual on the pottery beforehand to guarantee that this jar hasn’t been tampered with by your foreign gods," Herodotus stated calmly.
"Er..." Clara hesitated.
"There is no negotiation on this matter," Herodotus declared firmly, "I wish to contact Pisya, not Saturday."
"All right." The little maid finally conceded.
"I’ll have the pottery sent over by sunset tomorrow, but let be clear, if I don’t see a sign that satisfies , or if I discover you’re deceiving ..." A chilling smile appeared on Herodotus’s face.
"I understand." Clara stood straight, clenching her fists.
Herodotus said nothing more, stood up and left the room. After a while, there ca another knock on the door.
The little maid opened the door and found Ruby standing outside.
The latter was looking at her with a concerned expression.
Clara let Ruby into the room, and as soon as she closed the door, Ruby couldn’t wait to say, "Are you alright? Did you get hurt?"
"I’m fine." Clara squeezed out a smile, not wanting to worry her friend.
After scanning the little maid from head to toe and sighing with relief, Ruby then asked, "What did Priest Herodotus co to find you for?"
"He wanted to help him with sothing."
"With what?"
"With contacting Pisya."
Ruby gasped in surprise, covering her mouth, "You can do that sort of thing?"
"I can’t." The little maid shook her head, "But I have to make him believe I can. That’s the only way I can keep living."
"How are you going to do it?"
"rlin once conducted an experint, it seed to be about doing work and heating up, quite magical. I was there watching at the ti, and he explained the principles behind it to . If I can replicate that experint, maybe Priest Herodotus will believe what I say."
"Experint? What is an experint?" Ruby blinked her eyes.
"rlin said an experint is a simulation study carried out to explore or verify the truth, which can help us better understand the world."
Even after the little maid’s explanation, Ruby still seed very confused.
So Clara had no choice but to try another way that Ruby might understand, "I need to imitate rlin and demonstrate a miracle in public tomorrow."
"Do you possess such great Divine Power?" Ruby clasped Clara’s hand.
"I’ve only just begun with Divine Power, but there’s no other way, I have to give it my all." The little maid declared firmly, "We’ve agreed to go back to Green Field together, and when we do, I can introduce you to rlin and that wonderful little frog."
"But I am only a maid."
"I am also a maid, and this is the Maid Alliance. Don’t worry, the Double Rest Sect does not discriminate against maids."
...
After leaving Clara’s room, Ruby went to Priest Herodotus’s quarters.
As she approached the room, she could hear heavy breathing coming from inside, followed by the sound of sothing whipping against skin.
A sense of foreboding rose in Ruby’s heart, and she wanted to retreat, but the voice of Priest Herodotus had already co from the room.
"Co in."
Ruby did not dare to disobey his command and could only obediently push open the slightly ajar door, only to be choked by a gust of smoke that t her face and then felt a bit dizzy.
Once she had recovered a little, she saw the High Priest shirtless, holding a whip in his hand.
And the person he was whipping was none other than himself.
Ruby noticed that Herodotus’s back was full of bruises and swelling. She took only one glance before quickly bowing her head.
Priest Herodotus tossed the whip aside and began to put on his shirt, while saying, "You went to ask her, what did she say?"
"Forgive my frankness, she doesn’t seem very confident," Ruby said.
Priest Herodotus didn’t seem too surprised by this, he just sighed deeply.
"After all, she is just a maid, there’s no helping it. The key issue is, is she deceiving just to save her own life, or is she truly trying to help solve a problem?"
"From the information I’ve gathered, it should be the forr," Ruby said.
"Oh?" Herodotus raised his eyebrows.
"She said she has only seen rlin use this thod once, but when she tried it herself she never made any contact with Saturday; besides, she doesn’t think this thod will work on Pisya either."
Ruby lifted her head earnestly and said, "Sir, I think she’s deceiving you, showing disrespect to you. Should we punish her a bit?"
"No hurry, wait until tomorrow. We’ll see what she is capable of then. If she fails to do what she promised, there’ll still be ti to punish her," Priest Herodotus said.
He paused for a mont before speaking to Ruby again, "You’ve been doing a fine job recently, you are very good at lying, and I hope you can fully utilize this talent of yours.
"But one thing you must always rember is to be honest with at all tis. Can you do that?"
"I can, Master." After speaking, Ruby knelt down at the feet of Priest Herodotus and kissed his boots.
