"If you say that the two n who ca to our village weren’t Sabbath from the Double Rest Sect, then what makes you so sure that these two bodies are your people? They are already in this condition, how can you still recognize them?"
Black Hamr said, holding his nose.
"Pay attention to the right hand of the body on the right, his middle finger and index finger are almost the sa length, which is a distinctive feature different from normal people on the body of Sabbath ier. His family can testify to this, and even so villagers who have heard his missionary work know about it," Tom said calmly and slowly.
"So, who were the two who ca to our village?"
"They were a pair of rogues nicknad Fatty and Skinny. Their build very much resembled that of Maurice and Sabbath ier, so they were brought in to impersonate them. But in reality, Maurice and Sabbath ier were murdered on the road early on. Afterward, those people took off their clothes and bracelets, dressed Fatty and Skinny in them, and under the na of our Double Rest Sect, did evil in your village."
"How do you know?"
"I had my rcenary friends in Black Stone City investigate it; Fatty and Skinny have been missing for about thirteen days now, with no return so far," Tom explained.
"That still doesn’t prove that the people who ca to our village were them."
"Indeed, after all, you have burned their bodies."
"And who are ’those people’ you keep referring to?"
"A group of Black Armored Cavalry, they are very skilled. Nine days ago, when we left your village, we also suffered an attack from them."
As the two were speaking, out of the corner of his eye, Black Hamr caught a glimpse of several warriors from the Black Hound Guard, holding a strange black short stick in their hands, patrolling around.
It looked as though they were performing so mysterious ritual.
Black Hamr didn’t have ti to think more about it and forced himself to refocus on the debate with Tom. He was undoubtedly at a disadvantage now, but he still argued defiantly, "Is that so, then where are those Black Armored Cavalry?"
"They ran away, leaving only two bodies behind, and we have not been able to find out who they were after that."
"So once again, it’s just what you want to say, and there’s no one who can testify for you?" Black Hamr sneered.
But a voice quickly interrupted his laughter.
"I can testify!"
Black Hamr looked in the direction from which the voice had co.
The person who spoke was very tall, almost a half taller than Black Hamr, to the extent that the blacksmith had to look up at the other.
"You are..."
"Anton, the Universal Language teacher sent by the Silver Moon Church to the Arias family," the man said, leaning on his cane.
His face was pale, to the point that a gust of wind seed like it could blow over his emaciated body, but his gaze was dreadfully somber.
Being stared at by those eyes, Black Hamr suddenly felt a wave of discomfort in his stomach.
But since the other party was from the Silver Moon Church, he still maintained a respectful expression. He was about to say sothing else when, unexpectedly, Anton threw his cane aside and started cursing!
"Ever since I joined the Church, I have conscientiously done whatever the higher-ups told to. The Clermont family has fallen into decline, leaving behind a young master and an old butler. No one was willing to teach Mr. Buerva how to spell, so in the end, that task fell on .
"I stayed in that little village for twenty-four years. If I hadn’t later written to the Quintus Priest, the Church would have completely forgotten about . But I had no complaints against the Church; I regarded it as Pisya’s test for .
"Just as they had always taught , they then sent to Green Field, saying it was to reward my loyalty. I was so moved. After all, the Arias family is much more powerful than the Clermont family, even though their territory is remote, and there’s nothing here but carrots.
"I diligently worked as before, earnestly teaching all the children of the Arias family how to spell in Universal Language, spreading the goddess’ glory. But what did I get in return—yet another round of being forgotten!
"I stayed here for twelve years, and the Church never gave even a single command. I pleaded many tis, wanting the opportunity to study in the Temple, but guess what...
"Those little brats from noble families with connections could enter easily, but my requests were always denied. And, what’s even more laughable was yet to co: thirty-six years, I had been with the Silver Moon Church for a full thirty-six years, and they never gave a cent.
"But every year, I’d save and scrimp, donate the salaries given to by the Clermont and Arias families to the Church, even though it wouldn’t even earn a word of thanks! Would you say I’m cheap or not!"
Priest Jile looked at the increasingly agitated Universal Language teacher and gave a slight cough, "This deacon...your difficulties can be discussed privately..."
"Shut up, you pea-brained idiot, I wasn’t talking to you!"
Anton rudely interrupted Jile’s words.
This left Miss Rabbit beside him utterly shocked. She thought she had a good understanding of her Universal Language teacher, who would always bow and scrape, smile obsequiously, and behave as if he were serving his own father whenever soone from the Church visited.
Especially in front of significant figures like Priests, he wouldn’t dare even breathe too loudly in their presence.
But today, he had changed completely, suddenly grown a spine, even daring to call Jile an idiot. Was this still the Anton she knew?
After cursing Jile, the Universal Language teacher continued to voice his complaints, "All this could have been endured. After all, I still managed to deceive myself until then, continuing to say this was the goddess’ test for . But when the lizard people’s army was about to surround Teacup Castle, I sought help from the Church, only to be ignored again.
"They simply don’t care if we live or die!" Anton clenched his fists, enunciating every word, "In the end, it was Prophet rlin and Sabbath who saved us!
"Yes, you heard right. I, a teacher of the Silver Moon Church, was saved by the Double Rest Sect, not just —they saved all the people living on this land. And don’t forget that at that ti, most of them were still believers in Pisya."
The words of the Universal Language teacher evoked the mories of many, causing the villagers to nod in agreent, and even so villagers behind Black Hamr lowered their heads.
"It’s one thing for people from other places to sar Sabbath, but not here, because we all owe the Double Rest Sect..." Anton held up two fingers, "Two lives."
"After that, rlin and Miss Ireya killed the Black Dragon, saving us again at a ti when the Silver Moon Church had abandoned us! While that bitch Pisya was enjoying herself in her Temple!"
The Universal Language teacher sneered, "Those who continue to spread hate speech against the Double Rest Sect now, their intentions don’t need to be spelled out. If you’re willing to be ungrateful, then go ahead, but I, Anton, am certainly not such an ungrateful person!"
