127 Black Mud

David had been in his office all night till the early morning going through various files and searching databases trying to find the faint connection that made him uneasy when suddenly received a distress signal it was coming from the building below, it was the area that sealed the unclaid dead bodies of professionals, it was not unnatural for a professional to still cause damage even after death, by either becoming a wrath undead or the like which was why there was a seal to block the occurrence of any such thing, the seal was made with huge positive energy which would make sure no undead would rise or could ever rise from the bodies kept but now sothing had gone wrong with the seal, it should be noted that the seal was made directly from the headquarters by a legendary mage well versed on the subject.

Running down the stairs he quickly reached the basent, the wall leading to the outside was already broken, David wanted to rush through the broken wall to intercept whatever creature had escaped but the screams and sounds of bullets changed his mind, he rushed into the morgue where the battle was taking places.

As if stepping over an invisible boundary David felt cold, his mind was being attacked and ravaged as the substantial malice and degenerating aura of the attackers fully enclosed this space, not only that the aura seed to be growing as the last of the living officers fell losing their breath and joining the ranks of the infected as blots of black liquid poured out from their eyes and orifices’.

David recognized this phenonon, it was black mud, the major cause of the nurous disasters that occurred since the star fall.

Black mud was an energy or phenonon that appeared during the star fall event, according to researchers of the federation it was a concrete realization of the world malice and filth the dark side of divinity, the substance seed to especially target divinity, it was like a sieve, a shielding chanism that ensured gods and the like would not be able to descend to the world it acts not on divinity but also ensured legendary figures would not be able to fully utilize their destructive power.

At least that was the information David’s authority was allowed to access, although he was very sure so important aspects of the black mud information were not open to the public.

The major point was that the ergence of the black mud signified that a divine presence had once again descended to the world.

Once he thought about this David’s inspiration and professional characteristics suddenly took effect and the clues suddenly connected together, the bizarre feeling of danger he got when he saw Ratcliff’s corpse, the reaper that was suspected of murdering him, the absence of Ratcliff’s corpse from the chaotic scene right in front of his eyes, a deity has descended and its target was most likely the reaper, and there was only one thing that could make a deity take the risk to descend in such a manner was...

“Grrrr”

.....

A growl shook David out of his rapid thoughts, a few mutilated bodies stained with black mud were quickly heading to his position.

David was not flustered he only ca down here to gather his thoughts and connect the clues, he knew the officers down here were already dead and could not be saved, as for the danger David had faced worse things than this situation, plus he had a hole card after all he was a mber of the crows.

Taking a switchblade and slitting his wrist, he painted his crow badge red with blood and the next mont a bright dreamy light appeared, the light seed to erge not from the badge but from his mind, the light though soft and beautiful was extrely deadly and sharp as it cut the whole room in half including the various infected bodies in the surroundings. As the light ca and went swiftly, a female figure appeared in the room. She was black-haired wearing a black female suit and a sword was fixed on her curvaceous waist stating her identity as a swordsman, her hair was set in a ponytail giving her a sort of heroic feel, and on the hills of her chest rested an obvious crow badge.

David who saw her gave a sigh of relief before he bent over and started retching, although he hadn’t spent a long ti in the black mud’s sphere of influence it had still dealt considerable damage to him.

The female lightly stepped back not wanting to be contaminated with the contents of David’s stomach.

After a few minutes when the contents of his stomach seed to be emptied, David rested on the wall close to him and gasped lightly before stating succinctly

“one escaped, it’s probably the core of the change.”

“Where is it heading towards.” She said succinctly noticing the strain with which David spoke his words.

“The reaper, I think they found a fragnt of Alaya” David managed to spit out before he lost consciousness.

Upon noticing David’s lack of consciousness She quickly moved closer holding the exhausted and injured detective up, after confirming he was okay and had just fainted, she took him out of the destroyed room and lay him down on the corridor.

She quickly took out her phone and requested for an ambulance and help from the crow headquarters to take care of the scene and whatever residual pollution still existed.

Once this was done she quickly left the building ignoring the panicking crowd outside following the faint feeling of pollution in the air, she hadn’t gotten far when she noticed a figure standing opposite her, he was clothed in a dark cloak that covered all his body but she was able to recognize him through the iconic red pupils that shone from the darkness of the cloak.

“Hello Joan, I.....”

‘Shing’ a sharp sound interrupted his words as a bright dreamy straight light appeared, it seed like an illusion but it was not it was a slash, the slash cut open the cloak and moved further leaving a deep wound starting from his crown to his crotch almost dividing him in half.

The cloak dispersed revealing an abnormally pale man with blond curly hair a sharp nose and beaming red eyes, the skin of the individual squird together healing the nominally fatal attack, as soon as the wound started healing the area around started to be stripped from reality as a domain slowly unfolded, the sky turning black and gloomy and the concrete road turning to soil, there was an abnormal sll of rotting corpses that filled the air as black ash slowly descended to the ground.
