Chapter 20: Chapter 20: Refugee Uprising
Princess Jingge rarely experienced half a month of stable life.
Although the environnt in the refugee gathering place was extrely harsh, facing hunger and cold.
But for Princess Jingge, who had been on the run for more than half a year, as long as there was a safe place to hide, it was enough.
Originally, she thought she would spend this winter like this.
But just three days ago, she keenly felt the tension in the atmosphere of the refugee camp again.
More and more refugees were pouring in from all directions, making the originally settled refugees feel uneasy, and conflicts even broke out among them.
Ordinary people would indeed think this was just an ordinary conflict among refugees.
But Princess Jingge could see sothing unusual in it. These refugees were obviously being consciously driven towards Frost Wolf Ridge.
Combined with the previous attempts by wandering knights and rcenaries mixed in the crowd to assassinate Duke Frost Wolf, she realized that so force was likely targeting Frost Wolf Ridge.
Among these refugees now, there must be many with ill intentions.
And as more refugees keep coming, this kind of conflict is bound to erupt at so point.
"It seems the situation in the Northern Lands is not much better than in the Jingge Kingdom." Princess Jingge’s face was complicated.
The original Northern Lands belonged to the Frost Wolf Clan, but now with the decline of the Frost Wolf Clan, even the last Frost Wolf Ridge is threatened.
Roman Knight, though not as observant as Princess Jingge, also felt a tense atmosphere among the refugees.
It was another night.
Princess Jingge lay down to rest.
But she had barely laid down when suddenly there was a clamor in the camp.
"Roman, what’s happening?" Princess Jingge sat up.
Roman Knight’s gaze turned to the distance, where flas were already bursting, and through his strong Tier Three Knight’s perception, he knew a battle was happening there!
"There are wandering knights slaughtering refugees!" Roman affird, "There are several official knights among them; it should be a preditated massacre."
"Slaughtering refugees?"
Princess Jingge thought of the previous speculation, and her face darkened as well.
These rcenaries were definitely targeting Frost Wolf Ridge, and these refugees in their eyes were just tools to muddy the waters, taking advantage in the chaos.
If these rcenaries succeed, regardless of Frost Wolf Ridge’s outco, the refugees definitely won’t survive this winter!
"Roman, we must take action." Princess Jingge spoke.
Roman Knight showed hesitation; if he acted directly in front of everyone, it would completely expose Princess Jingge’s position.
Taking action to kill the rcenaries or escaping amidst the chaos was a dilemma.
"Let’s take action, now is the ti to repay the kindness."
"And... a significant number of these refugees are also my people."
Princess Jingge showed determination on her face; after hiding for so long and finally finding a place barely suitable for safety, she didn’t want to hide anymore.
Roman nodded, and his figure flickered and disappeared from the spot. At so point, a dagger appeared in his hand, gleaming with a cold light.
At this ti in the refugee camp, the rcenaries were slaughtering the surrounding refugees, driving them towards Frost Wolf Ridge, trying to break the line.
"Damn, let’s fight these people!"
"The Lord gave us a place to stay and food. We cannot let the Lord down. Drive these people out!" the militia shouted.
Imdiately, mbers of the militia organized a resistance and began fighting with the rcenaries mixed in the crowd.
But the power difference between the two was really too great; the militian charged forward only to fall quickly into a bloody pool, yet no one retreated!
When Roman arrived, this was the scene he saw, knowing full well that going forward ant a dead end, but these militian still advanced bravely!
"If we lose the protection of Frost Wolf Ridge, we will eventually die. So why not take a chance and fight these rcenaries!"
"That’s right, rather than starving to death, I’d rather die for the Lord, to fight a way out for my family!" the militia shouted, fearlessly.
"Hmph, wanting to die isn’t difficult?"
A rcenary captain snorted coldly, slashing out with his Knight’s Sword!
His strength had already reached the official knight level; how could these ordinary militia possibly be opponents, it was a one-sided massacre.
But just as his sword slashed out, suddenly sothing halted his Knight’s Sword, and then a powerful force surged, actually knocking the Knight’s Sword out of his hand, and his figure began to retreat continuously.
"How is it possible?!"
"Your strength exceeds Tier One!"
The rcenary captain’s eyes showed disbelief.
He would never have thought, among these refugees, there was actually a knight hiding who surpassed Tier One!
Once he realized this, his first reaction was to flee; although they were both official knights and the strength gap shouldn’t be too large, he didn’t want to take any chances.
But just as he started to move, Roman had already closed in, both quickly engaging in combat, with the rcenary captain soon overpowered.
Seeing this, Roman frowned; usually, killing a Tier One Knight wasn’t too difficult for him, but he hadn’t been eating well lately, relying solely on black bread was not enough to sustain knight combat, weakening him significantly.
But even so, he seized the opportunity to slit the rcenary’s throat with his dagger, causing him to collapse in a pool of blood, lifeless.
"Kill him together."
At this mont, two more rcenary captains realized the situation and attacked together.
Roman fought two at once; although not falling into a disadvantage, he couldn’t spare a hand to stop the rcenaries killing the refugees, becoming anxious.
Thump, thump, thump—
The battle hadn’t lasted long when the sound of hooves rang out.
The Gray Wolf Knight led the charge on horseback; upon reaching the battlefield, he leaped off his horse, quickly joining the fray.
David followed closely, but he didn’t rush to join the battle; instead, he observed the situation on the field, focusing on Roman Knight.
In the next mont, he quickly approached a rcenary captain, slashing out with his Knight’s Sword, swiftly cutting off the opponent’s head!
Everything happened suddenly, and by the ti another rcenary reacted, a blood mark had appeared on his neck, with Roman swiftly ending him!
But before David could breathe a sigh of relief, suddenly several figures lunged towards him, each exuding a very strong aura!
Clearly, everything the rcenaries did was just to assassinate Duke Frost Wolf; now that he appeared, all the assassins no longer hid themselves!
